Can you humour me and see how far from the river you can still use it? My house is like 1 km from the river and the cat cdma would be better value for money than the lao connections.

Get married???

Actually, I thought you could in theory extend your student visa indefinitely.

I've been there before for a couple of weeks on holiday, I know the electricity likes to go down when it's raining, but I have no idea about the consistency of the internet or whether to use an aircard etc..

Anyway if anyone is currently grinding there or has done before, would appreciate some info, Cheers!
Ive been grinding in Samui for just over a year now. For 1st 11 months I was using the land line internet at my house, which was ok at 1st but gradually deteriorated. Land lines are crap as they are reliant on your power supply. I have been using CAT CDMA (aircard) since mid-January and it's 100% reliable, even when we get heavy rain. (845 baht/month, about 6k baht to buy)

Your biggest problem with grinding here are the power cuts. There are fairly frequent at times, especially during heavy rain, and especially especially during Oct/Nov which is when the main wet season is.

I use a laptop, which when I came here was brand new and had a battery life of about 3 hours. However in the year Ive been here, that battery life has now dropped to about 10 minutes, which I assume is due to the different power supply and having to use a converter plug. So next time we get a power cut and Im in the middle of an MTT session Im pretty screwed.

If you do want to grind on Samui, then my advice is go for it. I and many other have been doing it here without too many problems on the whole. However Id strongly advise having some sort of backup power supply, ie a spare battery for your laptop. Buy one before you come here, as Im not sure how easily available they are on the island.

Fire me a PM if you need any more help/advice.

last time i checked cat cdma aircard are much cheaper now, the main problem is to catch them when they got some in stock, from memory they had one stick called ec 150 which was really cheap like 2500 baht and one bigger one with an antenna vw140 for 3500 baht.

Hey guys,

Just arrived in Bangkok, Thailand. I need a prepaid simcard for my iPhone 4. Is that possible to get it with internet on it so I could use whatsapp and a little bit of surfing as well.

Who is the best provider for that here in Thailand?

And where can I buy it?

Thank you

I got my visa from vientiane today, two questions :
They flagged the top of it with a red mention that i had many tourist visa before and that next one might get a refusal, i guess i should look for an alternative already if i want to stay more than 6 months or is it standard and not much of a problem ?
I have a double entry, they mention enter before 2 jun 2011 , that mean i should come back in thailand the 1st of june right ?
Ask us about Thailand! Quote
03-04-2011 , 03:21 AM
that means if you want to use both entries you have to use both of them at the latest 1st of june

$10 on stars to anyone who can explain to me the visa situation fully.

1: When you arrive at airport you get 30 days without any visum right? To get that, do you need a return ticket 30 days from that day? because im gonna go 7 months, would that return ticket be ok?

2: Before you could just enter the country get 30 days free, leave country come back one day later and get 30 new days, this you could repeat. But as I understand thats no longer possible?

3: Can I in some way just enter the country without any visa, and while in thailand travvel around and manage to stay for 7 months somehow? A friend told me he went to the Thai embassy in malaysia and got 90 days in thailand, can you do this if you arrive with no visa? And is that true that you can get 90 days in a Thai embassy in a country thats not yours?

4: If you decide to just overstay instead, is it true maximum fine is 20K baht?
And also, the chance to get caught overstaying has to be almost non existent it feels like, and even if you would get caught, coudlt you just bribe the police?

5: Whats my option if I get a 1 entry tourist visa, how does that one work, is this recomended?

6: Anyone used the service http://www.siam-legal.com/EU-Visa/th...ar-visa-eu.php and can tell if there legit and how this works. Well worth the money if that would work.

7: Any other way that would be easier?

I guess everything of this is in this thread but its to long to search through, sorry.

1. yes you get 30 days. no that ticket wont be good if you are asked. the ticket is not asked 100% though but be prepared for it at least

2. yes it is still possible and you can come back same day if you want though if you repeat it a lot you might be asked questions at immigration. why not get a visa beforehand?

3. yes you can obtain a tourist visa from a thai embassy. it doesnt have to be from your home country. each entry is good for 60+30 days

4. yes max fine is 20k. i dont have any first hand experience with getting caught overstaying before going to airport but since being in the country legally is pretty easy i dont know why you would want to do it. also keep in mind that some hotels and airline check-in staff might check your visa status if you move around.

5. can get from any thai embassy around the world. even double or triple entries are possible (with each entry worth 60+30 days). and yes it would be recommended in your case imo

6. you can do all this stuff yourself with minimal hassle. i wouldnt pay those companies a dime for services you can do yourself. i didnt even check the website but i assume they overcharge a lot

7. no. where are you from? just contact your nearest thai embassy for tourist visa and go from there imo

any other Qs just shoot here or PM

add to number 5: to get a tourist visa you have to leave your passport to the thai embassy usually for one night at least. youll need some copies of your passport, passport picture etc. the requirements vary depending on the embassy

when you get the visa the sticker will have an "enter before" date. you will have to enter thailand (and use all the entries if you have more than one) one day before this date at the very latest.

when you enter the country you will get 60 day stamp and you can extend it inside thailand at a immigration office for another 30 days for 1900 baht

more info about this stuff from the sticky: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/92...-guide-508855/

and ask here if it is still unclear

so if you exit during this 90 days (on triple entry tourist visa) and return you get how long added? Via Land and Air please?

Last edited by hennerz; 03-04-2011 at 11:02 AM. Reason: currently within the +30 part of the 60+30

nothing is added. if you leave the country your current permission of stay stamp is voided

as long as you have entries left and you havent passed the "enter before" date on your visa you will get another 60 stay stamp when you return to thailand. doesnt matter if you arrive by land/air/spaceship/swimming. and you can extend that entry for 30 days every time

the difference between arriving by land/air is only when you arrive without a visa when you get 15 days arriving by land and 30 by air

if you leave the country your tourist visa is voided and upon reentry you will make use of your new visa.
