so me and 2 of my friend are looking to move in thailand in february and we have some concerns. We want to rent a house like this or something :

http://www.fairproperties.com/cgi-bi...os_for_rent.pl

But our main concern is the internet connection. Can we get a stable one ?

We found that website anyone know anything about that kind of satellite internet connection?

It's expensive and I'd bet a significant amount of money that it's garbage quality. If this is your first time going to SE Asia, you'll probably pack too much clothing. Take some out of your bag and throw a can or two of whey in there instead.

Connection is pretty solid in Pattaya. Have you ever been there? If not maybe you should reconsider. Great for shagging week ends but living there is another story.

Hey ofdabead, our mutual friend has mentioned a "hooker from hell" story several times and still hasn't told me about it. What happened?

Ifear, I would just take the whey protein with you instead of worrying about tracking some down. To amend my previous "legal drugs in Thailand" post, you can get gear with absolutely no problem if that's what you're into.

Standby for the ex-GF from hell story soon.

Puk's lost her absolute mind and I'm physically and mentally prepping myself to either be attacked by a knife weilding mental woman or a herd of hired ya ba junkies.

I think my odds of survival are
90/10 against knife weilding woman
and 50/50 against the ya ba herd

Embassies in many European countries aren't so strict about the visa rules (although that may be changing). I got my one year non-immigrant type "O" visa just by walking into the embassy and saying 'Hi! I'd like to play poker in Bangkok for a year' without any paperwork required.

Lol, you went back to that place? He just told me the story and it's no big deal since it was his last night in bkk. It would have been a much different story in Cambodia or something. The key to dealing with crazy Thai people is to keep saying "mai khao jai" (I don't understand) until they finally go away.

I live in Phuket and looked into it but right now I dont think the service is strong/far reaching enough to warrant the super high cost.

I know about the visa rules puplished at thaivisa.com.
Just call the german Thai embassy in Stuttgart, Hamburg or Essen. In their defintion of "O" (other) also falls "tourist".

You wont find these information offically published on the internets i guess, i just read it in a german thailand forum then called the embassy and they approved it.YOu just send them a mail with ur passport flight ticket the fees and the bank statement etc and youll get your visa.

My wife and I are flying out tonight!!!

Here is our schedule:

sept 8 - 12: Koh Samui
sept 12 - 15: Koh Phangan
sept 15 - 18: Phuket
sept 19: Chiang Dao
sept 20 - 22: Hill tribe trek
sept 22 - 27: Chiang Mai
sept 27 - ???: Bangkok (where we will live)

If you live in (or have been to) any of these areas and there is something we absolutely must do or see, let me know. Also, let me know if you want to hook up for a beer. It will be fun to meet some 2ers out there. I think I will end up living pretty close to fellow SSSH brassmonkey in BKK.

Hey guys one last request.. as i have said im really stressed about my visa and for some reason my brain just seems to block there
thats the little page for my country
http://www.magma.ca/%7Ethaiott/visa3.htm

Just want to be 100% sure i understand it completely.

So, i have to mail my passport and the form with a second passport picture that isnt the same as the one in my passport.
i think i have to send 80$(money order) + xpress post send back envelope
i have to choose tourist visa as non immigrant seems to be only for buisnesses.

They say we do not accept courrier services... wtf is a courier service? i thought all fast mail was a courier service

So then 2 days later i get my visa which is good for 60days.
That visa is the one that i can renew for an other 60days @ at the border right?

From what i understand a courier service is someone who can only delivers and hands out the mail personally.

@ efficiacy, nice to know that there are other LHE players.

ive read a lot on thaivisas

So i guess you can just get 60days visas every 60days if you dont care about paying?
They say that the 30days extentions are not always given, its at the discretion of the officer.
Are 60days visa almost always given out, and has anyone in here lived off those for like 6months, so 3 times?

Yes, as long as you don't mind going to the Thai consulate in a foreign capital. It takes 2 working days, but some places you can drop off your passport in the morning it pick it up the following afternoon. Cost is 1000 baht. If you wanted to, you could get to Vientiane for under 500 baht by train not including the Lao visa fee that varies depending on country of origin. Round-trip flights are 5 or 6k baht and I imagine this is similar for other nearby capitals.
