like was pointed out, there are prostitutes wherever there are tourists. (there are hos where there are no tourists also, but it's less likely you'll notice them)

if they bother you, then thailand is probably not the best choice, but they shouldn't be that big of a deal. there are tons of hos in phuket, but euros seem to love to bring their 12 year old daughters here on vacation, so it must not be that big a deal.

Nah its not that big of a deal, I never said zero prostitutes, but for example fwih pattaya is worse than other places.

I wonder if this is you talking or your girlfriend.. lol

Anyways you picking up and moving long-term to a 3rd world country/city youve never visited before isn't very smart. I suggest you forget about your internet connections and poker for a week or 2 and spend it visiting bangkok, chiang mai, and phuket, then deciding which is your favourite and settling in.

If you don't want to do that, just choose chiang mai, a lot less visible hookers there then the previous aforementioned cities

Assuming he avoids Loi Kroh and the immediate surrounding area

If I lived in Thai I think CM would be the first place I would try to settle tbh, nice place and very chilled..........

Yeh If you are bringing your girlfriend I would suggest Chiang Mai also. Seems like there is a decent amount of western girls living here already, most of them teaching or doing some sort of hippy work.

And if you live on the west side of town you can go months without seeing a hooker

FWIW the best places for backpackers are Khao Sahn Road in Bangkok, Ko Phi Phi, Koh Phangan, and Chaweng Beach in Koh Samui. Koh Phangan is probably the #1 spot.
Thanks!

fwiw, I'm heading to thailand to sit on the beaches, relax and if i like it, setup shop for a few months grinding...but I would also like to know which places the whitey's hang out.

As mentioned by pokerspiv who understands, travelling/backpacking chicks drop their guards a lot more and are WAY more fun and adventurous then they would be back home. So yes, it would be NICE to know where they like to hang out.

Also, i'm ASIAN, and don't really like to dip the soy sauce..so i'll save that for all you white males who like the asian flavour. NOw we can all get along!

I replied to a pm of gmo's about a couple of things. I said something and have just been thinking about whether I said the right thing or not? I think I did but maybe someone else can give a better answer than me?

I realised he was asian and I personally think asian guys will struggle with white euro girls on the whole, was I out of line saying that? I think its the truth personally, I rarely see a male asian/white girl euro couple ever, that's goes for in Thai or euroland.

Thoughts on this if he is after euro girls? Not saying its impossible just difficult.

Sorry bro, have a good time whatever, I just thought it was relevant to bring up considering the Q's u were asking...........

When enquiring about renting a house on sites like phuketrenthouse.com is the price set or is it worth trying to negotiate? If yes, how much are you likely to be able to get off?

Also, what type of internet will we need to grind?

i.e. whilst here, shipping off your passport, app forms, money etc, to Hull so that they can stamp a new O visa into your passport, then ship it back to you?

I know that in Hull they only post back out to a UK address, but say you were to get it posted to your parent's, who then sent it onto you.......could this work?

I imagine when you decide to leave Thailand on your new non immo visa that they would question why it had non been stamped/activated when you first arrived

you can't get any visa while in thailand, AFAIK. it's got to be possible to go to Laos or Cambodia, and send it off, though.

Send passport to ur mom in UK, she sends to embassy and gets it back and sends it to you sure. That works.

this wouldnt work either. pretty sure the consulate will look for a stamp out of thailand. even if that worked it is possible for a immigration officer to notice that you got a new visa while still in thailand. not worth it imo

You can get a visa while here, but it's not legal and you will have to pay off a travel agent to do so. I know a few guys who aren't quite at retirement visa age yet who use these dodgy services so that they don't have to Visa runs. It costs 20-25k baht per year. They give the passport to the agent and it comes back stamped through Munich or something.

You'd probably get in a world of **** if you got caught though.

Heard about this. Apparently someone actually flies out of the country with your passport and uses it to travel through immigration, sounded iffy to me as Thais obv dont look anything like falangs, so dont quote me on this.

Another thing i heard and that sounds way more plausible is if you get caught you get deported back to the last point of entry. So if your an Australian, but your passport is stamped as you having come from Sweden or whatever. Its off to Stockholm for you
