sim cards are 50 baht from 7/11 stores on every street, just make a phone gesture with your hand and ask for '1-2 call sim' (1-2 call is one of the main sim companies, texts are 2 baht and calls about the same/minute), cashiers should understand. comes with instructions for topping up, can buy credit at 7-11s too, is pretty easy to get up and running. cheap phones can be picked up for ~700 baht at street stalls, price negotiable

because i first defended his opinionated posts, and then pointed out that the advice itself makes him a good poster, so calling him out is silly. A lot of the guys who are regular bad posters here aren't helpful or productive ITT at all... but beans doesn't feel the need to call out the guys who are ****ing terrible posters and are never productive. of course, he hangs out with those guys on a regular basis so he probably just doesn't notice how bad they are ITT.

funny thing to do is go to cowboy/nana/pattaya/Bangla and while your in a crowded bar or part of the street that is busy, just say "Hey, Klaus" and see how many turn their heads and look at you. There is always at least one.

If anyone is interested in a scratched-up (but no dings or rust that I saw) Bike Friday setup with SRAM DualDrive and trekking bars (prob better for shoulders wider than mine) he's at the Peppermint Cafe on Chiang Mai most days. Might be 10+ years old but it's steel and Bike Fridays have an excellent reputation for quality.

He really doesn't know what he's got. I think he never shifts it (completely flat in town) and was surprised to learn it has 24 speeds. He uses some other bike for shopping as this one doesn't have a rack. Tires are underinflated which may affect initial ride impression.

Also, fwiw waiter seems like a genuinely nice guy. His story was that a customer had two bikes, only planned to pack one and told him to take his pick. He chose red instead of black.

Will the same clothes in the same stores (particularly Quiksilver) be any cheaper in Bangkok? Or will I be able to get the same clothes but fake or whatever for cheap? Not sure how it works over there and don't want to drop hundreds on gear if I don't ned to ldo.

So I've been in some serious discussions with some others about the next Bkk pubcrawl. Nothing is set in stone but I would just like to throw out our rough draft agenda and see if there's any interest or people have suggestions or comments.

First there would be a 1000bt(?) entry fee into the 'barfine pool' this money can only be used for barfining. Also a trusted member would manage the barfine money and be the 'gatekeeper' to the barfines.

4:00pm - Open things up with some casual piper's roulette or HORSE if Tom is there
6:00pm - Arrive early to Cowboy/Nana/Patpong(?), begin drinking and barfining. Institute some games and have a 1 barfine per bar rule.
8:00 or 9:00pm - Everyone goes bowling, pipers included
11:00pm-2:00am - ???
2:00am- Scratchdog?

I have a student (Japanese Businessman) who I would like to invite along if that's ok with everyone. He's pretty funny and if anything he could help by going on 'missions' inside of the japanese-only gogos or karaokes and barfining girls from there.

Again this is a rough plan and am just throwing it out there. I was also thinking if this was on a soccer day we could include that too.

The real brand name clothes are probably not any cheaper. You only find those in the big malls and those are pretty much western prices. I'm sure you can find fake versions in a ton of random markets though.

I heard it is getting more difficult to make rinse and repeat visa runs over and over? I've never been to Thailand but being able to stay there indefinitely on tourist visas would be a big plus for me.

yea it is getting more difficult but there are workarounds and other types of visas available too

that said, you should be able to spend the first 18-24months with tourist visas before you run into any problems. after that you got options
