Would I be good to go if I just fly into Chiang Mai without any plans at all? I've never been to Thailand before.

Short answer is yes.

New Heaven Bungalow (not New Heaven Resort/Dive School) is awesome if they want quiet. It's on the other side of the island, every room has a great ocean view. Real cool place. 15 minute motorbike ride from nightlife though.
Ban's is nice, did my openwater there but it's far from the best diving in Thailand.

Ok. I'm not a diver I just did a two day discovery there - but I've heard Koh Tao mentioned many times as the best in Thailand in print and via word of mouth. It certainly has the highest concentration of diving schools heh

A very specific question:

What is the cheapest hotel in Bangkok, Phuket or CM that has a jacuzzi in the room or alternatively a jacuzzi you can use? Jacuzzi in room is preferable for somewhat obvious reasons.

Only reasonable thing I found so far is a hotel in Bangkok that has some good deals with priceline if you're lucky.

Two questions:

1. I am thinking of just staying in 1 place (with a few daytrips) for a month to relax from traveling a bit and want to grind a bit of poker as well. Any houses that have a room free for 1 month (probably between 10th february - 10 march) or any other suggestions? Checked out the kata beach houses, but they are pretty expensive 69000 for a month. And is it possible to do some muay thai training just for one month?
2. What is your favorite island to go to with a girlfriend if you basically want to relax and stay in a hotel at the price range of <$150 a day. I'm thinking ko prah thong, ko samet, ko kradan or ko phi phi now, but would like some advice from insiders. Not looking to party hard or anything just a couple of bars and the beach will do. Not too many tourists is a bonus.

On really crappy internet here so couldn't browse all 416 pages, sorry for probably asking the same question twice.

true that, it's like certificate factory. but great fun for backpackers and honeymooners but the best diving is aroud similan and the best fundives are from koh lanta imo. but the dives there can be a bit harder so for padi ow koh tao is better.

if you want really really good diving fly to borneo, stay at mabul and dive at sipadan. about the same amounts of hours and baht to get there as to get from bangkok->tao if bus isn't an alternative and the diving is amazing...

im sure this has been discussed already before but thread is massive and didn't see it with a quick search but is there a general consensus on the place to get the cheapest tickets to Thailand from the USA? How much will it cost generally for a one way? Quick check on orbitz said $1500 but coulda been because of dates.

from LAX I've seen 550 one way, and 900 RT

but you can get Thai airways direct flight(only direct USA to thai flight) from LAX to BKK for 680 one way and around 1000 RT.

Hutch have a wireless service here m8,although the old technology is slow, certain areas here have a faster service available. ( i used it as a back up to my landline) look into that.

Awesome, thanks alot. Which areas you recommend looking for a place to stay? After apartments, say 5-10 minutes drive/motorbike ride from Walking street and near the beach

Also with the hutch connection, is it fast enough to be able to 4 table online?

The beach here is not worth a cold cup of piss.I wouldnt put my big toe in the water.

There's plenty of condo's to rent here.soi 5 there's quite a nice block, you'd have to go to a real estate shop to sort that tho.

If your after a hotel, soi 2, Sabai lodge might be ok for you,if i remember correctly the net connection wasnt too bad there. (around 1k a night)

Hope this help's.

As for hutch, (old technology)4 tabling should be ok,but you wont be able to do anything else whilst playing.

You're going to need to be a lot more specific if you want any help. I've never heard of Greenery or Bellevue Residence and almost every place is going to have a pool/gym.

Budget?
Location?
Proximity to soi cowboy/nana/spicy?

Bellevue Residence http: //www.bellevue-thailand.com/
Greenery house http://www.greeneryhouse.com/v9.html

the budget will be something around 20k 25k baht, the area has to be calm, and it'll will be great if we can easily get to restaurants and taste local food ...
