-take pictures of everyone you see taking pictures of loved ones.
-find the security line with the hottest girl frisking people, and keep going through with different metal objects near your crotch.
-find a bargirl travelling to visit her family or boyfriend, and bargain with her until you get her to agree to **** you in the bathroom. when you get there, ask her how much extra to suck her dick. when she says she's not a ladyboy, just turn around and leave. see how many you can get to the bathroom in 5 hours. I'd set a good over/under at 3.5
-the girls at duty free are usually cute. find the ugliest one, and hit on her relentlessly, with the sole purpose of extracting the maximum number of tobelrone samples possible.

I like this but I would modify it slightly - see how many you can bang in five hours...

given the nature of the threads recently, i just assume that everyone posting is either busto or worried of being to Klausy, so I tried to come up with airport games everyone could enjoy.

Can someone give me the translation of "Klaus" for the purposes of these threads? Thanks.

I booked a hotel in Kata for my little trip to Phuket next week. Is getting a taxi at the airport the easiest/standard way to get there or should I check with the hotel?

Anyone have restaurant recs for Kata? (I remember something int he FAQ about best Pad Thai).

walk 50 meters to your right when you are outside the airport, there you will find the cheapest taxis.

Can someone give me a link to FAQ?

The meter taxi's from the airport are the best taxi's on Phuket (Phuket taxi's are controlled by the mafia, leading to massive price fixing, it's one of the only things that will cost the same as at home). The meter taxi's from the airport are reasonably priced though.

the simplest definition is "sex tourist or sexpat" but like any slang word, it's stretched beyond that.

if you get a taxi at the airport, go to the right outside the door, and walk to the meter taxi stand. don't let them give you a set price, even though they may try.

for a simpler way, we've got a driver that we trust, and recommend to people all the time, and if you give me your name, flight number and arrival date/time i'll have him pick you up at the airport. saves you the hassle of the haggle (whatever he charges you, it's fair. for the airport it might be a little more expensive than the metered taxis, though) but he speaks good english, will bring you directly to where you want to go, knows the area pretty good so he probably knows your hotel, and more importantly now he knows you, and you can call him and get rides easily when it matters.

for food recos, there's not a consensus on many things. i'll give you my list:

Pad Thai : small unnamed noodle shop across from the northern bars on the Kata Night Bazaar stretch.

Pizza: Rugantino (Kata)

Fried Rice, vegetables, Larb, and other Isaan Food: Larb Kata (Kata)

Curries: Red Chair (Kata)

Tacos: Red Chair Plus (Kata)

Lad Na Mu: (Black Pepper noodle soup with pork) noodle shop next to Ping Pong Bar (edge of Kata-Karon)

Kow Ka Mu/Kow Mon Gai/Kow Mu Dang/Kow Mu Glob: unnamed restaurant across from Coconut bar (Karon)

get a motorbike, and some phone numbers of 2+2'ers, and we'll take you places to eat and show you around.

saw a 5br house for 35k/month on the road that Lessu/Wolfram/Stefan0 live on, about a block from Stefan's house. I didn't see the inside of it, don't know anything about the amenities, and the 35k figure was what was quoted quickly on the phone with no discussion of length of lease, so it's possible that it comes down to 30k or even less.

also heard about a 6br place that Sunny saw somewhere out near the big buddha. I think it was supposed to be pretty balla, but i didn't really inquire about it.

i've also seen infi 2 and 3 br places recently, so anyone seriously looking should hit me up for some info.

I'm pretty likely to rent the 2BR across from Larb Kata soon, unless something really strikes me quickly. it's a 6 month lease paid upfront, which blows, but it's my favorite place. If i don't get a roommate to split the house/costs with me upfront, there's a possibility that i rent the room out on a monthly basis (for a higher rate than an actual splitting roomie would get, just so i don't get called out as a douche for it later :P)

anyone been to a day trip to phi phi lately? just looking for how much the trip are usually.

i took some brochure at homepro and their price was 1.5k for adults and 300 more to get food and a lifejacket (which is pretty funny imo). the standard pick up at 7am, boat to maya bay, snorkling, lunch at the main island and then come back around 5pm

i mean, i'm sitting here looking at flights and it's 3 1/2 hours direct flight to the caribbean but like a gazillion hour journey to thailand. beaches look about the same and cost of living seems similar. just trying to figure out what it is about thailand i'm missing. housing looks nicer in phuket though and from my experience in nyc with people from the islands - we have tons - they aren't friendly whereas thai people are probably friendlier/more hospitable.
i haven't gone yet but for me it's the culture. I want to try things that would shock my way of thinking and open my mind up, latin america is different but asia is alien

Bazz, what I really wanted to ask is: Do most monthly apartment/condo rental places come with an Ethernet line, or just crappy wifi? I am assuming you put in your line yourself, thats not always possible if you are renting short-term.

fees, Thailand is a very good "intro to Asia" because it has a little exotic feel to it and it is super easy to get around and I suggest it as the first Asian country to visit if anyone asks me. But at the same time, Thailand is VERY western. As a tourist, you can expect everything to be handed to you on a platter in terms of accommodations, transportation, entertainment, etc. (This is true in even remote parts of Thailand. The only exception being the Deep South.) Don't expect much surprise value, unless you rarely venture out of the US.

Because it is so easy and predictable, best thing to do is to stay out of this thread and not do any research on the place. Your trip will be more fun that way. I am serious.

I think many people make out Thailand to be this super exotic place and it really isn't. If you want to see exotic Asian country check out Cambodia, Burma, or Nepal. Am I the only one who feels that way?

(BTW, next time I'm in Thailand, I want to go to Burma again and check out the beaches there. I have a feeling they are just as good as Thailand, without the crowds. Thoughts?)

dc,

I think you travel too much. Many people feel a pretty profound culture shock when visiting Thailand for the first time - I know I did. You can find Western amenities if you want them but it is by no means a 'very Western' country.

I do agree with staying out of the threads though, if a culture shock is what you are after.

To be honest, its hit and miss. Some condo's/hotels are really good.Others are absolutely shocking. So my advice would be to research/try out where your going to stay first.Dont listen to the "my internet service is wonderful" bull **** from the landlord.

There's also a decent wireless service(dongle) here now (in most parts anyway) "hutch" is the name of the company ( i think its 3g technology, but im not 100% sure,im no techno buff, and i know Thailand has some legislation issues with getting 3g here) but thats supposed to be quite good.I used to use the old 2g,as a back up,was terrible tbh, lol. There's short term contracts i believe, and possibly pay as you go aswell, but im not 100% about that.
Hope this helps a little.

Yes, i did pay for my line, and it was ***** expensive to put in!
