I got some visa-issues.

I'm a 24y old swede going to Thailand 16th nov, and planning to stay until april/may.

When I went to the embassy to get my tourist visa I was told I had to book a flight home within 2 months to get it. Also weren't able to get more than one entry since I didn't have any tickets for a visa run yet. I don't know if this is standard, or I just got an cranky employee.

I've booked a flight home to sweden 13th jan, but I can cancel that one. And now I got a visa with only one entry, giving me permission to stay until 16th feb, if I use the 30 day extension. Correct?

What's my best line here?
Can I get a new tourist visa in thailand before I make a visa run?
Any other smart way?

you can not get new visas from inside thailand but you can get one from a neighbouring country. in your case you only need a single entry since you need 3 months more. you can get one from cambodia, malaysia or laos. from laos you can get a double entry also if you decide there is a chance you might stay longer (double entry is good for almost 6 months with one border run in the half way point). with getting a new visa from abroad you have to spend atleast one night depending on location while the embassy processes your visa. let me(us) know if you need more help deciding which of the locations suits best when the time comes (if you choose this option)

another option is just to fly in and out every 30 days until you want to go home. you should be able to do this atleast few times before you are asked any questions.

if you cross the border by land and come back you would get a 15 day stamp (where the day you come back is day 1). i cant see this options very usable

also, 90 days from 16th november is 13th of february (remember the 16th nov is day one and there are 2x 31day months in between your entry and depart)

also about your luck at the embassy in stockholm. I have read that also the thai embassy in helsinki have been become more and more difficult. they dont give out triple entry tourist visas anymore if you have some (dont know how many) already in your passport and then this stupid **** about having flights into the country 6 months away to get the triple. like everyone knows where they are doing their visaruns 6 months before they even go to thailand.

Thai's have a few things going for them that we don't that allows them to live cheaper:

-they rarely live alone so they are splitting their already cheap rent and utilities
-they are fine with eating street food for every meal
-they work 10 hours a day 6 days a week so don't have much time to spend money

it's a good idea if you're thinking of having your favorite bargirl's name tattooed over your heart. otherwise, probably not the best of your random desires to appease.

Does Thailand have the best street food in the world? They gotta be pretty high up there.

Obviously, they do use a lot of oil, sugar, salt, chilly to cover up the taste, but it's tastes good and that's all that matters.

If you order the same dish in a restaurant, the only difference you will find is that it might have more of the expensive ingredients like fish and meat. Most other times, you will just pay more for the exact same portion and taste and probably quality.

The biggest problem I have with street food is that the variety sucks. You can only order the same stuff for so long. There are no food vendors doing a good variety of fish/seafood or more expensive meat dishes. You have to go to restaurants for that - or at least 'street restaurants'. And if you want something non-Thai, forget it, street food vendors only make Thai food unless you count kabobs and a handful other simple snacks.

If you mean is it a bad idea to get them in Thailand, the answer is no. You can find excellent artists and the price is typically much cheaper than in the US. I don't know any good artists in BKK but I'd imagine Koh Sarn Road has a bunch. Just look at the work on the walls to see if they are any good.

There is actually a really well known and good place near Khao San where one of my female friends went and is really happy with it. The artist is pretty famous. If you really wanna do it frankpark then I'll bring you there. But I agree with ellys and vucking, tattoos ftl

Everything in Perth is inflated in price because the biggest employer in WA now is the mining industry. You have guys fresh out of high school earning 100k/year driving a truck on minesites.

Combine that sort of inflationary pressure with one of the world's strictest regulatory regimes, and the result is a city in the middle of nowhere that is more expensive to live in than Sydney and Melbourne.

if you're in an area where street vendors congregate, you'll often have an incredible selection. just one noodle cart and one wok cart would give you a huge variety, but then there's a bevy of other options: bbq every kind of meat imaginable, pancakes/roti, grilled eggs, dried squid, deep fried everything, cotton candy, those sweet pastes, pad thai, steamed corn, stuffed buns, som tam and other spicy salads, insects, fried pastries.. i'm sure there are things i'm not thinking of, too.

while i wouldn't want to eat street food all the time because i'd be missing out on some of the best dishes thailand has to offer, there's a good enough variety that you could eat street food a high percentage of the time without getting sick of it.

Was being a degen one night on my last trip and was still up drinking at 9am the next morning due to body clock issues. The owner of this bar made me some really tasty Thai breakfast including this pork omelette. I shared the cost with the other girls in the bar and I think we paid about 200 Baht between 6 of us and I was stuffed. Can't beat the good local stuff.......
