Your risk of ruin is outrageously high. (bad set of visa runs or 2 losing months is enough to **** you) Obv if I were you I'd still gambool, but going broke isn't fun so just realize it's a possibility and grind yourself up some breathing room.

Baan Thai on Nimman in Chiang Mai. 4.8k for month to month, two 2p2ers atm and def one more coming. Beat is that it's a 30k deposit. Basically anywhere near CMU and you'll be close to poker players and can find something pretty cheap.
To get below 3k you have to split. I'm taking 2 floors of a 4 story place; a Thai friend of mine has floors 1-2. 3-4 bedroom houses can be rented for 12-15k with a long term lease, but you'd need someone willing to risk you going busto.

I've had peaople tell me about crazy low prices but can't find any resources online to back that claim up. People have told me you can rent a nice place for $200/month or less! I'm guessing that can't be true. What are normal prices for a place in Chiangmai? What about areas around Phuket?
you answered your own question. why the **** would someone renting out a place for the same price as a motorcy rental worry about putting it online where the only people looking are tourists. To get a cheap place that's not ****ty you're going to have to know someone who knows (either non-n00b farang or better yet Thai) or learn Thai and hunt yourself.
