I think a decent amount of people spend more money in thailand then they would if they were at home, take that for what its worth

How much would it cost to rent a place in Chiangmai for one month? I'm not trying to live luxury, but I'm also not looking to live in the cheapest place i can find. Just want to find a place that is somewhere in the middle.

Also, whenever I look online it seems like every place for rent is geared toward tourists who only want to visit for a week at a time and is much more expensive than I would have imagined.

I've had peaople tell me about crazy low prices but can't find any resources online to back that claim up. People have told me you can rent a nice place for $200/month or less! I'm guessing that can't be true. What are normal prices for a place in Chiangmai? What about areas around Phuket?

Thanks for the response Freedom Fries!

Your risk of ruin is outrageously high. (bad set of visa runs or 2 losing months is enough to **** you) Obv if I were you I'd still gambool, but going broke isn't fun so just realize it's a possibility and grind yourself up some breathing room.

Baan Thai on Nimman in Chiang Mai. 4.8k for month to month, two 2p2ers atm and def one more coming. Beat is that it's a 30k deposit. Basically anywhere near CMU and you'll be close to poker players and can find something pretty cheap.

To get below 3k you have to split. I'm taking 2 floors of a 4 story place; a Thai friend of mine has floors 1-2. 3-4 bedroom houses can be rented for 12-15k with a long term lease, but you'd need someone willing to risk you going busto.

you answered your own question. why the **** would someone renting out a place for the same price as a motorcy rental worry about putting it online where the only people looking are tourists. To get a cheap place that's not ****ty you're going to have to know someone who knows (either non-n00b farang or better yet Thai) or learn Thai and hunt yourself.

yes, he is awesome, although in this particular game, he's the bad guy. also, he might be a johannes, i never get those straight.

CAvino, you can live in any of the 2+2 centers, although i'd say that in general, CM is probably the best value if that's your goal, only by a little bit, though.

there are places you can stay in Phuket that aren't far from 2+2'ers for as cheap as 3-4k baht a month. most people choose to pay at least 10k, or team up with people to get nicer places. some people pay way more than that for really nice spots. there are full price ranges in all the big 2+2 areas, and the other areas are just missing the top end which shouldn't bother you.

I'm considering staying by the beach 4 hours south of phuket for awhile. my two best options seem to be a beachside apartment for 7k baht/month, or a super nice beachside bungalow w/internet, kayaks, and perks for 800 baht/night.

really, just browse the forum, decide which place sounds the best to you. give CM a slight edge for price, but don't put too much consideration into price (unless you refuse to drive a motorbike... then i'd choose BKK or a really small place)

You mentioned that I can stay in a 2+2 center. If a 2+2 center is what I think it is then THAT IS AWESOME! If I'm wrong then I'm about to sound like an idiot, but...are you telling me that there is a community of 2+2ers in Phuket and that they have gotten together and acquired living arrangements as a group and I can get a room (or perhaps some kind of hostel type deal) for a solid rate? Tell me I'm not dreaming. That sounds like exactly what I need so that I can arrive in Phuket and actually shop around for my own place.

Thanks a ton Rutang!!!

Staying 4 months in Phuket earlier this year and I was spending well over 2k$ per month, dont really get how it's possible to spend only 300$.

CAvino, with that kind of budget I would find an inexpensive apartment in a place you like with decent internet and prepay 6 months. You'll get a discount, and most importantly, won't have to worry about making rent if you hit a downswing or go a little too nuts.

2+2 center just means we all live 5-10mins away from each other (and in phuket that is not a long distance)

Thanks for the answer.

Is there any places I should avoid since it's the rainiest month of the year? Like Ko Phi Phi or Ko Phagan? Is there any places that won't be as much affected by the monsoon season? I don't really care if it's raining from time to time.

Thanks Lessu! I'm ******ed obv. So in Phuket, does anybody know where most 2p2ers are staying (Rawai, Nai Harn, Kata, Karon, Patong)??? If I end up going I want to be as close to other young poker players as possible.
