I've been to thailand when I was 23, quit a while ago, once (uh not really once) I was drunk and walking in the tourist region trying to find my scooter, however I was so drunk that all the scooters looked exactly the same, so I tried about 20 scooters on a row and there were still like 200 to come. Then some guy wearing a darkblue shirt with the word police on it, ticked me on my shoulder to ask what I was doing. In my drunken mood I told him to **** off, then he or one of my friends around told me that he was police. I didnt beleive it and said something like, yeah ****ing right he is police, everyone can buy a tshirt with the word police on it blablablabla. Then one of my thai friends seriously grabbed me by my arm and made me clear that that guy really was a police officer and it finally entered my mind.

Obviously I heavily excused to the officer and told him the story that I lost my bike and now was trying every single one of them to find it back. He wasnt mad at all but advised me to continue my search the next day when I was sober again and wished me a good night

Another time I was also in the tourist area, (when wasn't I) at night and walked up to my scooter as we planned to go elsewhere, I still had a bottle of beer in my hand and we didnt hurry really so somehow I started to get a conversation with a police agent, we talked about 5-10minutes nicely and with the beer in my hand and no helmet I got on my scooter, said goodbye to the police agent, and drove away

I must say I really love the thai police.

Those stories have nothing to do with saving face?

Saving face was related to insulting people in the beginning of the thread, just started reading. Maybe bad example.

But still, nice to know that police agents at tourist places seemed to be trained to treat tourist gentle.

You should probably check the post date before quoting/replying to stuff. Much of the thread is 1,2,3 years old.

But yes, Thai police are soft, to everybody, not just tourists.

The soi dogs are passive too. Whole ****ing country is passive.

He hit a guy from behind, and the guy he hit was so drunk he could barely stand up anyway.

My sister could have done that.

^^ ugh man i would lose it if my notebook got stolen, sorry man.

Please anyone kind enough to help:

I'm in the process of ordering my plane-ticket. Currently filling out the the Visa application. Is it ok to show the electronic eticket as evidence of travel?

I take it that the part "FOR OFFICIAL USE" needs to be filled out by the consulate?

Do i need to fill the spots "Local guarantor" and " Guarantor and address in Thailand" ?

TY anyone taking the time to reply and help me out! Also i'll probably be arriving at 9.00 in the morning in BKK, so arranging a hotel to stay when i arrive will be easy right?

I think i just posted my itinerary of travel (pages the travel agent gave me with dates of travel) so e-ticket will be fine.

'Official Use' is for them

Didnt fill out guarantor parts, this probably depends on what visa youre applying for - if its Tourist just leave it blank.

You might want to find a deal online for a hotel before you arrive in BKK. Its personal preference but after a flight its a lot nicer knowing where youre going for the first day then you can go, check in, drop your bags off and have a hassle free day in the city or room service and sleep.

Youll get a better deal online too.

I stayed at Citadines hotel on Sukhumvit 11 which I can recommend for a short-term stay in BKK. Good location and nice rooms with sofa, TV, DVD, good desk+chair for grinding and pool+gym on roof. Very contemporary and clean.

Arriving in bangkok 7th of september by the looks of it. Will stay there a while and then move a little bit more permanently to chiang mai i think. Whats a cheap place to stay, grindable internet is a large plus, semi central would also be nice, in BKK, will be there for like 1-2 weeks or so before i move to chiang mai. Not too picky apart from mentioned requierments.

i like the smart suites, also on soi 11. it's about 1500 baht/night during high season. grindable wi-fi included.

i think the standard is to put a family member as local guarantor and leave the thai one empty

arrange a hotel in advance online. cheaper and saves time after a long flight

Okay, about the Thai banking laws, maybe I'm missing something. Do the laws change from month to month in Thailand??

In the past few pages, Biko, Lessu, and Cyphernz opened bank accounts with no problem at all. When I vacationed in Thailand last year I went to four Thai banks and they refused to let me open an account. The last one, who spoke English well, said that it's a national law that I would need at least a work permit to open an account.

Has that changed now so that anyone can open an account? I brought an extra few thousand in traveler's checks to open an account, but ended up bringing them back. I plan to return to Thailand in the near future, hopefully permanently, but that would be difficult without a Thai bank account. I don't qualify for the other visas such as retirement or marriage, but an Edu visa could be possible, and I'd be willing to get TEFL certified to obtain a work permit and teach English at least part time.

BTW, about the 300 baht vs. 600 baht debit card, my guess would be the daily withdrawal limit.

This part may be a bit off topic, but as much as I like poker, study the game, and play online with mixed results, I'm not at the skill level where I can make a living at it. When/if I move there perhaps someone would be willing to be a coach? Unfortunately, my future location is unknown at this point.

In the meantime I'll have to earn some money and teaching English is a good solution for that. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Do you remember what banks would not let you open an account? From everything that I have read banks on Phuket are a lot more flexible.

i know at least 10 people who have Kasikorn bank accounts. I got mine easily with just my passport, and a thai friend that came with me. I know of one person who had a problem with Kbank in Bangkok, so when they came to Phuket to visit, they opened one here.

is it easy, like low fees, to send from your moneybookers account to kasikorn?
