I am looking to rent a monthly serviced appartment in Bangkok.

I have been looking at prices on their website and I remember reading that you can haggle everything in Thailand.

What should be my aim % discount when I haggle for monthly room if they already have a special rate for monthly?

I have been looking at :

legacy bangok
pan pacific

everything is special rate or discounted rate in thailand

sales are on every day etc

always haggle, % depends. you need to go to several places and haggle to get a feel about the real prices

Quick Thai language question: I think I read that "khop chai" is used to say "thank you" to someone of lower status, like a child. Is this true? In Lao we use it for everyone so I may have sort of insulted dozens of Thai people I've interacted with.

dunno about that but khop chai is used a lot when I watch english shows with thai subtitles so maybe there are some rules but not related to status?

It just means 'I'm thankful' instead of 'thank you' as far as I know.

Yeah, I looked everywhere in Phuket for 1920x1200 and no luck. I even went to the IT stores in the Big-C basement to try to order them, which others had done before, and asked them to place an order for me but they never called me back.

I think Samsung is trying to phase 16:10 out of production cause HD TVs are 16:9 which means they can make the same panels for everything and save a lot on costs. There isn't a big demand for 16:10 anyways. Most people aren't even aware of the difference.

q1: Looking for a decent hotel in Bangkok, we are two people and we are staying there a week or two.

q2: Name a couple of things I should bring (staying for 6months or so) that I prob havent thought about.

q3: Looking for a simple thai language e-book.

q1: you're just not specific enough. start with price range and anything else that matters to you.

q2: i assume you've thought about the things mentioned just a page ago or so. if you're going to be staying in Phuket, Chiang Mai, or any place where your primary mode of transport will be motorbiking, consider bringing a good, quality rain jacket and/or pants

also, if you think you're likely to ever need to bribe me to do something for you, bring a bottle of Patron XO.

"khop chai" apparently means 'thanks' to either friend or to a kid.

haha rutang. not trying to be lazy (allthough it prob is), but just trying to get answers from a forum I check often. :P

q1: pretty central, we are just going to stay there a little while so I doesnt have to be to expencive. lets just say max 5k baht for 2 people.

q2: ty for that

I found the answer to this, if anybody else is interested:

Most big Thai banks will allow you to keep funds in a foreign currency. Bangkok Bank allows 13 different currencies.

In my experience, you always ask if you can get a discount. If they say yes and give you one - that is pretty close to as low as they will go, you might be able to shave a bit off of that.

If you are going to be staying long term, your biggest bargaining power will be a discount based on number of nights. So first get it as low as you can for a single night, then haggle over number of nights.

I've significantly reduced tilt by putting a statue of the Buddha in the "calming the ocean" posture next to my computer. It's my favorite mudra of the Buddha and looking at it it reminds me not to worry and that everything will be ok. Statues with both palms out are much less common than a single palm, but they're out there if you're willing to look around. Just sharing what's worked for me and has saved me money and stress.

I don't have a work permit and I was able to open one at Bangkok Bank. I don't know what their policy is normally.
