There's a column about some aspect of life in Thailand, followed by a bunch of questions, followed by a completely different column which is basically an update of the nana/cowboy scene. The 2nd one is not written by Stickman.

No, if you want to use CDMA in bangkok you have to use a different provider, CAT only has rights to operate in the other provinces. Luckily it's far easier to find an apartment with good internet in BKK, CDMA isn't as necessary.

How does one go about finding/making sure that one gets an apartment with decent internet in BKK Then?

Just call around and look for places that have a LAN plug in the room rather than just Wi-Fi. It's far more likely to be good for grinding than wifi is going to be. That will help you narrow your search.

Any suggestions of areas where I could find apartment around 200-250 €/month with this grindable LAN plug. Close to BTS/MRT.

I dont know if this apartment actually has a LAN connection or not, internet ads are rarely so specific. But it has a number you can call to ask.

As a general rule you don't want to rely on the basic TOT package, you want to be connected to a plan thats 4mb or faster, since the slower ones have 95% of the users and share bandwidth. It might pay to ask a few questions about their internet service.

Try not to ask leading questions or you'll just get lied to....

e.g. this is the wrong way:

Prospective Renter: Do you have the 4mb premium package?
Clueless Receptionist: Yes, have. <--- She's just saying this because it's what you want to hear.

this is a better way:

Prospective Renter: Can you tell me more about the internet package?
Clueless Receptionist: Don't Know
Prospective Renter: Anyone there who knows more?

etc, etc. All this takes a long time which is why it's often just easier to go test it yourself and see what speedtest.net tells you.

Looks good ty. Any good reads how I am going to gauge if my landlord is going to try to *** me over in extra charges or not? Like trying to keep my bond when I leave. My friend lived across Thailand during 2004-2006. He said that he paid a bond only once. He had a thai gf. Maybe she negotiated his good deals. Only time he paid the bond he said to the landlord that he could take the last rent from his bond. Maybe that is a good way to be sure that you get your bond "back"

Getting the depoist back has always been a problem for me. The worst was in bkk, 120k deposit and I moved out a month early, obv. paid rent in full but the landlord claimed i broke the contract by moving out early and wanted to keep the full 120k. She eventually gave back 90k but claimed the water/el/internet bills came to 30k the last month...mmm, ok...

Similiar story with my first phuket house after that, took ages to get deposit back and only got half....oh well.

Having your own line is the best option for having europe/US equivalent internet. Most serviced apartments will have grindable internet but you will suffer from more disconnects/slower connection, especially when it rains.

I use true internet in BKK and have had 2 disconnects in 6 months.

unless you got static ip or something(or your jsut not grinding when it happends) true resets your ip every 24hours, avoidable by just reseting modem once at some hour u never grind or just before u start playing.

i lived in a studio with lan called sitara place for 18k w/ bills included...internets worked good for the most part but there were several times when it just went down for a bit
