ok, now reread the quoted part of this message, and if you don't understand it, ask questions now.

Probably fly to Cambodia/check out PP and Ankor for few days and bus back through the country. Just how horrible is that bus ride to Bangkok?
I just took the bus from siem reap to bangkok 4 days ago. It was 7$ not too bad but the boarder took almost 3 hours

Get some equipment and work at it for a while on your own or at friend's parties. If you become good, then apply for gigs, starting out at smaller spots and working your way up.
This is very true, i had a friend in college who would always have the newest sick hip hop and rap and imo had good taste in music in general. he bought some sicko dj equipment and posted it up in his apt. a month after he got it i went over to smoke and chill and he messed around on it for like an hour. lets just say i was not impressed at all and was just like wtf!?!? I assumed that he would just be good by default, but that wasnt the case at all. its like everything, if you want to be baller at it it takes a lot of time and practice.

i'm vaguely aware that CAT cards don't work in bangkok because some other company has the rights to supply BKK, while CAT has the rights for the rest of the country. do any BKKers use aircards for internet in BKK? can you use the CAT card with whatever company provides the service, or do you need a separate, proprietary card? how much is it, and how is it for grinding? i've never seen a post about aircards in BKK... maybe no one uses them?

Hey mate, I've travelled quite a bit in cambodia. If you have a few days to spare I can recommend better routes from Siem Riep to Bangkok than through Poipet. It includes a great boat rids and some great scenery. Let me know and I'll help.............

Heyyy

I am looking to move to Thailand again, I'm 24 year old guy from Scandinavia. I have been living in Thailand for 2 years before, basically Pattaya, but I have been many other places as well.

Basically I'm looking to catch up with some poker players to play and hang out with. I'm also looking
to share a house or apartment with. I'm working offshore on an oil rig so I will be away every other month working.

I haven't played internet poker for long, but I'm looking to improve my game and soon beat 50NL. I play 6max and HU cash game only.

I'm not going to move before after the summer. I have to get rid of/or lease out my apartment and it's nice to be in scandinavia in the summer.

note: I'm not really against drugs except for in Thailand where i'm totally against it.

Yeah could be, just looking for something decent to do since I have to cross the border anyway. The wiki travel report for Poipet does not entice anyone for sure, its starts by reminding you Poipet rhymes with toilet and descends from there, funny. Returning through there seems>than entering there from trip reports so I though I might fly over.

Just as an aside I used my phone as a back up when my internet dropped tonight (seems to happen couple of times a month now even though on decent connection ) For 100 baht/month you get 20 hours internet usage with ais prepay (30hours if you choose a new sim number).

Download speeds are something horrible like .2 mbs but I was able to grind out 7 or 8 tables of tourneys and sit n gos no problem. Just another back up idea. Phone is NPCIA enabled whatever that means, any smartphone will do it. Even some not so smart ones with USB connection.

ok, so a preemptive welcome to the thailand community. A good start would include you posting things like this in the appropriate mega threads rather than starting new threads.

Wow, you actually got it to work? I have struggled with trying to set it up for a long time without results with Nokia Pc Suite, seems impossible to set up. I even tried manually setup in the program.

Has anybody tried using the Kasikorn 'K-Web Shopping Card' to deposit on Poker Stars or any other site?

I haven't but I doubt it would work. You can't even send Western Union to poker sites from Thailand.

I skimmed the thread, so forgive me if this has already been posted. Is it possible to use a Japanese cell phone (Softbank) in thailand, and just buy a sim card? Does it need to be unlocked? I heard you can get it unlocked for a few bucks. Thanks.

Hey, some french poker players and me are looking to find a 4-5bedroom house in Phukhet for a periode of 6 month. We would arrive late September/beginning of October

We already looked at http://www.siamrealestate.com/ is this a reputable agency, are the description and photos accurate ? What about the price, can we negociate ?

Do you know any other site we could search at ? Besides online agency would there be any good option for us ?

thanks, any tips appreciated.

best tip i will give atm is to browse through few thousand last posts from both of the thailand threads especially since you have time before you are coming

this topic has been covered several times

the answer in short: since you are coming for 6 months dont rent through an agency. come here, book a hotel for a few days and look for a place while here. much better prices and you will get what you want

i've talked to a few people about this already, but does anybody know if i'll have problems boarding a JAL flight with a one-way ticket to Bangkok? will there be any problems on arrival? if so, i'll probably buy a ticket to macau that returns to thailand.

i better look into getting a student visa or some kind of visa since:

"The duration of stay in Thailand for persons who enter Thailand without a visa cannot exceed 90 days during any six-month period, counting from the date of first entry. After 90 days, travelers must apply for a new visa at a Thai embassy outside of the country."

i'm bringing a 24" imac, laptop, and PS3. foldeq1ty told me (in an earlier post) that 99% of the time this won't be a problem since it likely won't be checked. i'm crossing my fingers.

wolfram - agreed. i just hope people go to these smaller nightclubs with their dancing shoes on.

edit: is there anything in particular i should ask the realtor/landlord about the internet connection before renting a condo in bangkok (if i rent a condo)? before i leave, should i buy adaptors from radio shack for electronics?

Anybody living in Thailand and playing poker big into scuba diving? I'm planning on traveling east asia for a while and doing alot of diving but if the dive sites were easily accessible from the main centers i could probably stay in thailand for a few months and playing poker/diving before i do the rest of SE asia.

I'm not very familiar with Thai geography and infrastructure, but if i wanted to dive sites such as the Similan Islands, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Tao, Koh Samui, Hin Daeng and Hin Muang, and Richelieu Rock - is it pretty easy to get transport to the coast (they are all pretty touristy areas i'd imagine as plenty of ppl dive them)? Mainly interested if anybody who lives in thailand dives and if so, could they give me some pointers.
Thanks

You won't have any problems being let in when you get here. Ask JAL about boarding, all airlines have different policies.

Yes it is very easy there are many dive centers near all of those sites. You stay in Koh lak i believe its called to dive at the similans. Don't dive from Koh Samui they just take you to sites on Koh Tao. Hin Daeng and Hin Muang go from Phi Phi and the cost is 5500 baht to do both in a day, the island has a collective bargaining agreement between all the dive shops.

there is no 90 days within 6 months rule anymore.

you can obviously ask questions about the internet but more importantly test it yourself

555, I think you mean price fixing.

Collective bargaining is where a bunch of parties negotiate as a group to get a better price from a supplier or a higher wage from an employer.

A group of companies deciding to all charge the same for something is more correctly called a "Price Fixing Cartel". And in the case of Thai dive shops it's probably less of an "agreement" and more of "if you undercut us, we'll kill you with a machete" type deal. FYI.

k great i think they get the point. and no its no we will kill you since they all met and decided the prices together and all the dive shops are foreign owned.
