dont do this. i came here with not much stuff bc i didnt think i would go out as much and be on the beach more ect. and basically was underpacked as well. i ordered clothes to my mom's place and she fedex'd out like 10 shirts. they were all like 20-25ish bucks and fedex charged $140 to ship and thai customs charged me $130 (total cost of shirts was $220 so obvi taxed like 50%!). Also it took like 2 weeks to get to my place and im never doing it again.

also if you check with most us online stores like none of them ship to thailand.

having dealt with them a couple times, i think your chances of bribing your way into a 1 year visa are virtually none. they are very by-the-book, it's not asia.

For bustos/micro grinders that want to come somewhere in Thailand; sure you could afford it in a place like Nakhon, but like other have said wtf? Get better at poker, or just figure out a way not to be busto and visit first. I really think T-land can be very love it or hate it, but that's just me and most ppl in this thread have been here far longer.

Teaching is a possibility, college degree and you're in (imo, others drop $2k us to get certificates and stuff). I work 18 hours a week, and make more than enough to live comfortably; also have been trying to play as much when I'm not working. Biggest beat of the job is that i'm on the campus 8-4 so if i can get in 2.5hrs of playing each school day, maybe 3-4 hours on the weekend I'm actually ballin out or saving money, (I play NL .25 and .50 and have even multi-tabled NL .10! so far from a poker baller too)

-Have to learn Thai
-Have to have 0 expectation of getting some home amenity, sure they're there, but just get used to eating thai food, fending for yourself when it comes to finding English movies/tv/sports.
-Farang here are either English teachers or old dudes that married Thai women. That can be lame, I haven't really missed it too much yet, (like a couple teachers, have the Aussie roomate) but i think over time more of that will come.
-Have to be pretty outgoing meet thai people, b/c there's no expat or group of farang to show you around and literally 2-3 farang bars. Once you get 'in' with a couple Thais, it's like "wtf, this town actually has **** going on past 10pm" People stay for 2+ years and find nothing, others get Thai gf, thai group of friends and fall in love with the place. I try just about everything and am having a blast. I seem to be the exception, but I think a lot of it has to do with that some people come here to be alone. As weird as that sounds, seems like every farang is working on a novel or doing muay-thai training, or maybe they just say/do that cuz they're bored.

I'm still not thinking I'll stay the whole time, I'm glued to this city, and poker=more freedom. Or teach in South America.

Thought i'd ask a somewhat more degen question, since it seems like visa's are a tough deal. Teacher that didn't get their **** taken care of earlier have to go to BKK, KL, all that stuff and it sounds like a nightmare, (they also hate spending money so i bet that adds to it when you're bussing everywhere etc etc)

First off Thai Pharmacies are pretty cool, (Phom Chop Vallium) anyone tried to get some grind-aids? I had a prescription to Adderall in USA, they were good for making time fly by and staying focused. Used them first for studying then poker later. Or any reccomendations, since I want that kind of weed-high and like to branch out from the standard drunk.

My bad, didn't mean that at all. Was just saying that while I assume you can get by with english-only in other parts of Thailand; In a place like Nakhon without attempting to learn it and having a small vocab you would get really really bored. I like learning Thai, and the people appreciate it so much too, so do it for that reason alone imo. Just saying if someone just didn't want to try to learn or is bad at languages and just kept trying to speak English to people they'd get really frusturated. I can count on both hands the amount of semi-fluent or fluent thai english speakers I've met here, even counting just acquaintances. While in Koh Samui they were like 'bro you don't gotta speak your broke-ass thai here' lol

Diving and drinking is about all there is to do, obv snorkeling and 1-2 viewpoints.

It just shows up in my thai bank as international transaction for all my bank wires. Have no idea what it looks like to the thai banks but I am pretty sure it isn't a problem as there are many players here who wire money to their accounts on a regular basis.
