i got mine on may 2 and the visa was not free. i informed the visa guru at the LA embassy of the foreign minister's declaration and he said "i know, but it hasnt come down yet as an official order so right now it remains $35 per entry"

note: he also said you have to be american to not have to show the flight details, i'm assuming here that you are.

the order to make them free MAY have come down the pipe for LA since then so call and ask. the number is right on the link i added. surf through phone automation til tourist visa question and eventually there is an option for talking to a person.

Can anyone tell me of a decent site for Phuket condos/serviced apartments? So far I've been using Phuket.net and Siam Real Estate. Any additional links would be appreciated, thanks.

Good luck all in Bangkok, in other news, why doesn't the Baht go down AT ALL, it is supposed to cost them a 2 percent growth in GDP, yet the baht hasn't suffered a single cent.

There's curfews in 20+ provinces, but I don't believe Phuket is amongst them.

Many of the remaining red leaders surrendered. Many of their followers went home, but a decent chunk are staying to continue fighting. And another group that was recently mobilizing in the capital has declared they will also continue fighting. Tons of looting and many buildings being attacked all throughout the city right now.

I also read a report that the armored personnel carriers that have rolled into the city were unloading troops wearing balaclavas and armed with weapons instead of riot shields. There's going to some nasty stuff going on over the next day or two.

Only some provinces have curfews. You can still fly into BKK and fly anywhere you want in LOS. Even if things get much worse, this will probably continue to be the case.

You already got the tickets. No reason to over think this too much right now. No one can tell the future. When it gets closer to June 3, you will know whether things are back to normal or if the country fell into civil war chaos.

So I think I need to open a bank account here, are there any differences between bank of adhiya and kasikorn? I assume I just to go straight to one bank office w my passport and some money right?

It depends on the exact branch of the bank. One bank I opened an account at only required passport + letter of endorsement from embassy. Another was happy to set it up with nothing but a passport after I brought a Thai friend along, and another refused to give me an account at all aside from some 'foreign investment account' or something like that which seemed like just a scam - having x% fees added to wires in exchange for a modestly better than publicly available exchange rate.

A letter of endorsement from embassy?? What is this?

go to kasikorn. all you need is your passport(doesn't matter which visa you have) and an address in thailand. they also asked a name and phone number of a thai I knew. atleast this is how it is in the branches we have used in phuket

I just did the same, was a very easy process that took about 15 minutes.

its 500 baht to open and 600 for an atm card.

A sheet of paper from your embassy that proves you had $30 and 2 hours to waste. It basically proves you are who you say you are and that you are in good standing with your home country.

Hey guys,

I am going to be moving to Phuket in September and I have a few questions.

1. Regarding visa's, do most of you just leave and re-enter the country every 30 days..or do you get 6 month/1 year visa's.

2. I have been looking on the internet for apartments, would it be much cheaper to wait till I arrive and phone up the owners of available apartments?

3. I want to spend around 50,000 baht a month on the apartment..i'm looking in Kata, How nice a place would I be able to get for this?

4. I'm moving on my own, Is there alot of 2+2'ers in phuket who meet up for drinks/sports etc?

5. How much per month for a motorbike?

I'm sure i have some more but thats all i can think of right now..

Thanks for any help
