your first stories were kinda lame but this latest one was awesome. the generosity of people over here is just insane especially as you mentioned when you make even a token effort of speaking a bit of thai. although I would also think that your pal has a pretty interesting story to tell if he's traveled the world, speaks fluent english, is apparently loaded and is now living in rural Thailand. not that I'd ever ask him to share it!

Well I suppose the attempted scamming, but there was someone sending PM's to ppl arriving in Thailand then drugging/robbing them. As well as a former poker player/hacker who was in Bangkok trying to hax grinders.

Short update,

Camera fail @ pretty much every store I've been to. I have a Nikon, and my laptop doesnt have a spot where you can put in pics. People calling this rural thailand i feel like are a little bit off. Carre Four, some night clubs, lots of bars. Million internet cafes, mobile-shops etc etc. I guess I haven't seen BKK and if it's like a NYC type place then ya that would make NST rural. Population 100k, all US amenities are decent to find. It can seem ridiculously crowded during the day downtown, where I live is about 4km from the CBD, or a 10bt Song-Tau. Decent sized college is about 2km from where I live, huge ass one is 50km, (got these two switched up, so prob not gonna visit Walailak very soon) Where i'm staying has US tv, a/c, internets and security cameras. Still 4kbt a month for a hotel room, while more experienced ppl have 2br houses for 5k. We are walking distance from the school so they make us stay here for at least two months, which I guess i'm alright with, but motorbike+downtown apt/house is the nuts.

For everyone saying most fun with just Thais, I couldn't agree more, I'd add having just one buddy doing it with is a really good way to go. By yourself is obv fun, but can get sort of exhausting/overwhelming.

So, ya this guy is awesome, if he's mafioso then he's high up, but I doubt it if he's traveled the world and stuff. I'll give him the UO gameday shirts and show him some scales and stuff to teach his daughter but they were all just super-excited I called and I'm just wondering if i'm going to be rolling to his mansion and quit my job teaching HSer's to private tutor his two kids in all the things I can get away with and learn his ways, (Not like he needs my help to communicate with farang though)...one time!
