I'm about a mile away from the center of the stuff and it's fairly invisible, although I do routinely hear helicopters and some explosions at night. One real problem is that the protesters are shutting off some fun places to visit, like Paragon. But it's not like you're going to be walking down the street somebody's going to scream a few words to the heavens and start blowing stuff up. The violence goes on where the protests go on, don't get too close to it and you're fine.

Recently some guy who was making home brew porn (creampiethais and a few other sites) got busted in Pattaya. They found him with tons of camera/filming equipment, a little bit of weed and a pistol. Apparently the gun is the one thing that really ended up screwing him.

You probably already know how they are on drugs here. That the gun is treated significantly more seriously than that is well...

its not impossible to own a gun legally as a farang. A friend of mine has one, and he told me its legal. I can ask more about how he did it. from what i remember he had to pay around 60k baht to get the permission.

i wouldnt worry too much, especially if ure staying at sukhumvit. im living like 500m from silom and the only thing thats changed is that the taxi from here takes a bit longer since it has to avoid a few intersections.

If you want it for Laos why don't you get one in Laos?

Also, how are you planning on crossing the border with it?

PSA: Laos is no longer be a tourist visa friendly destination. If you have a red stamp already they definitely are a no-go. If you didn't inspect your last visa carefully from Laos, make sure you don't have one. It's easy to miss. The "red stamp" is some very light colored red writing on the border on your visa page - not an actual 'stamp'. They're refusing visas to some people, including westerners, even though they can charge for them now. And this is with going through somebody with decent connections in Laos.

what kind of visa's are most of you on?

I plan on renting a condo in july or august for a year so which one would suit me the best? i was just looking at the tourist visa but its kinda gay that you have to leave every 30 days or 6 0days and come back.

I dont mind paying the 20k baht or whatever when I leave but that means if i want to travel like 3 or 4 months into my stay that I have to pay 20k to leave lol?

Do you think it would be worth it to just get like a student visa and pay for a thai tutor or something? I dont want to go to class but I dont mind paying someone to teach me thai 3x a week or something if it gets me a Visa.

guess that one above is just an ED visa.

Looks like the Type O visa is alot of paperwork / hassle? I current reside in LA so there is a consulate here.

Guess my options are a triple entry tourist visa or an ED Visa

I still go about same stuff(although really want to go to centralworld), but attacks last week affected me, my assistant got hit with a piece of shrapnel while being part of the multi-colored protest @ silom. she had to go to the hospital to have it removed but is ok now.

Thailand is fine to travel to. Silom and Siam areas in bkk should be avoided if you can.
