I post in this thread to answer people's questions about Thailand, and online poker in Thailand. If they would keep their chatter in the chatter thread it would be fine, but they constantly bring it in here, and gang up on people who aren't part of their in-crowd, like they did to MrScabs and BKKdude and numerous others before them.

As I said previously they need to understand they don't know everything about Thailand, no matter what they think. Most of them have been in Thailand a very short time, including guys like Ballablockn above who has been in Thailand all of 1 month and already knows everything. When you are in your mid-20s you always think you know everything, I was no different when I was that age, but that doesn't mean I'm going to listen to them when they tell me to stop posting.

It's not like this is the first time I've incurred the wrath of the phuket super balla heroes in this thread, but what they don't seem to ever understand is that I'm not here talking to them, and don't care what they think of my posts.

whats my conclusion? maybe some more modding is needed. or ppl can start modding themselves a bit more (myself included).

Hey everyone, i'm coming to Thailand on May 2 and staying until the end of May (when I fly out to Vegas for the WSOP) - the plan was to stay in Koh Samui with a group of Aussie pros i'm friends with but one by one they all seem to be backing out. Obviously my tickets are already booked and i'm going regardless.

A bit about me

24/M/dual Australian/US citizen living in Aus, first time in Thailand although i've travelled a lot, been playing pro for ~2yrs, primarily MS/HSMTT grinder (SwoopAE on most sites), if you've played at Crown in Melbourne there's a decent chance you would have played with me during Aussie Millions or one of the live MTT series there.

I figure it would be good to know people from the Thailand poker community regardless of where I end up staying in Thailand since you guys seem to organise a bunch of activities etc.

In any case, is anyone looking for a roommate in Thailand from May 2-3 until around the last week of May? If not, any recommendations on where to stay if my current plans fall through? I'm leaning towards Phuket or Koh Samui from what i've heard, especially with the stuff going on in BKK at the moment.

Khao San? There were violent protests there the other night. You might want to book a flight to Phuket, Chiang Mai, Samui, etc for a little while if things haven't gotten better by the time you leave. You'll be fine in BKK but its def not the best time to be here.

I'm a huge denier of any danger everytime government drama happens but this time it is concerning. There are very normal and safe and central areas of Bangkok you should avoid right now. Such as Koh Sarn Rd, CentralWorld, Siam Paragon etc.

If I were taking a trip to Thailand now I'd skip Bangkok and lay low while I was here. I'm heading out tomorrow just because I want to enjoy Songkran and not have to constantly be checking the news. It is very possible **** could go down the next few days - though the fact that the army laid relatively low today I think says a lot.

California Wow is best IMO. They have one by Soi Cowboy, another one in Siam Paragon,and one on Ekkamai (and a few others i think). Price for one month is 2000 baht, 3000 for 2 and cheaper for a yearly contract. Some of the sales guy will try to charge you more. I checked out True Fitness but they require you to sign up for Automatic withdrawals linked to your CC or bank account. I don't ever recommend doing that.

They have everything you need and if you bench 200 lbs you'll most likely be the strongest guy in the gym lol

imo True Fitness is a lot nicer without all the glitzy lights and music garbage they have at california wow. the Asok location is a great gym, and you can get a protein shake post-workout in the lobby on the way out.

price is 1000% negotiable at True, walk in and sit down with an english speaking rep, and just explain your circumstances (length of stay etc) and they will work something out with you. (i just paid cash up front, no CC withdrawals or anything.)

FWIW you constantly see people working out at True that rag on california wow because the management treated them poorly or something, and employees say the company is in trouble.

so obviously i recommend True, but alternatively, you can find some smaller hole-in-the-wall gyms around Bkk if you just look / ask around / google it. i have worked out at a few of them and they can be fun if you value lifting in raggedy gyms with dedicated people. at true you will get expats and hi-so thais.

I got a lifetime membership to WOW for like $1k USD. Pretty sick deal IMO, dunno if they still do it. Gyms aren't great compared to America but they are pretty solid. Also a good excuse to visit Paragon.
