True story. Only mods aren't saying anything. The regulars seem to have ideas about what should/should not be discussed here (monarchy, hookers v school girls, bunch of other stuff I'm sure) and shout down/troll/flame anybody who does not adhere.

If any moderation needs to be done it is to tell these people to stfu.

Not everybody has been here for years or discussed these things 1,000 times or is offended by them or scared that will get 2p2 blocked (LOL).

Maybe Thailand deserves it's own forum...? Or mods should more freely allow specific issue related threads...? Something should be done IMO. Shouting down legit discussion because it clutters up your idea of what a thread should be about is, well, pretty gay...

yeah, i didn't really put much time into it. are you going to use your phone like a cdma card as a backup internet con?

i would look into your account settings on the sim card. you can log into the website and change things around because with the default settings you will probably get overcharged for the internet.

i don't exactly remember but on mine i think there was three settings.

default: way over priced

moderate usage setting: u paid like 100baht a month and got a much better rate per min

unlimited: it was like 800/mo or soemthing

Nothing in his response suggested that he thought human rights were applicable in some places and not in others.

He rightly pointed out that since this is a private forum, freedom of speech does not apply here.

Secondly, nobody was forcing anyone to do anything. People are simply pointing out that carelessly talking about the Royal family, even though it is perfectly reasonable by western standards, could result in a massive inconvenience for all of us.

A private forum is not "a place"?

Human rights are not void if you define your place as private. if you want to argue logically, argue: "This is a private forum, hence human rights are not legit here". then i can agree or not to this statement. of course i would disagree, because its doest make sense. the UN didnt make the human rights because they wanted them to be constrained to geography, virtual or real.

if you want to disagree with me you should state something like this: "i disagree with the UN about the definition of the human rights".

And sitting at the front of the bus resulted in a massive inconvenience for Rosa Parks.

I guess we shouldn't talk about that either, this site might get blacklisted in Alabama.

can we just agree to disagree on talking about the royal fam and let it go? no one is trying to prevent anyone from talking about it at this point they just think it's a bad idea.

yeah i actually spent like 2 mins looking on the web and gave up, but then saw this dude at red chair using his g1 and just went up and asked him and he sorted me out. def trying to get it to work as a little backup internet for poker (not working atm), but also its such a brick of a phone it seems silly carrying it around without internet. there is an app called vpndroid that lets you turn off the internet with just a tap, so i just buy like 3 hours of usage for 39 baht and turn it on for a min and then off when i check email, ect. but i'll look into the 100baht/month deal and see whats up with it. thanks

Your right to free speech does not extend to other people's property.

If you want to come into my home, which is a "place", and tell me about your thoughts on whatever subject, and I don't allow you to do that, am I infringing on your human rights?

A better analogy to a private forum is this:
If you want to post an article in the New York Times and they say "uhm... no thanks" are they infringing on your human rights?

Hey guys. I can't decide whether I want to move to BKK, Prague, or Paris. The relative cheapness of BKK is pretty hard to resist. If I move to BKK, it will be in two months or after the WSOP, most likely.

A Few Questions

1) How many of you guys live by yourselves/how many of you have roommates?
2) What's the best, most central area to live in? Any particular streets or condos (less than $1500 per month)?
3) Does anybody live in an apartment with a nice view? When I stayed at the Banyan Tree the views were amazing. I'd like to find a condo with a view like that.
4) How is Internet? Has anybody taken any actions to prevent disconnects (ie, second connection, airport card)?
5) If I unlock my iPhone in US, will I be able to easily switch to Bangkok's service provider for the iPhone?
6) How many 2+2ers golf in Bangkok?
7) Is there a good gym in BKK with free weights where I can do things like squats and cleans?
8) How tough is speaking Thai?
9) Anybody learning Mandarin in Bangkok?
10) Does anybody live in Chinatown? Thoughts?
11) I just bought a few suits and long sleeve shirts. If I fly to Tokyo they might come in handy, but is there ever a time to wear a suit or blazer in BKK? What do you people wear if they go out to the Bed Supperclub? I know it's hot.
12) Are there decent laundry/folding and dry cleaning services in BKK? Are they cheap?
13) How many of you guys have personal assistants? How did you find them? What tasks do you have them do?
