I was just going through my bank account records and found that when I was using ATM's in Thailand (Bangkok and Koh Samed) about 3 or 4 times I was charged twice for my withdrawal. I was using my Visa debit card. Anyone else ever experience this? What's the best account to have or way to avoid this and get money in the future if I have money in American accounts? (also had like $300+ worth of int'l charges wtf)

Heading back to Thailand for 6 months from sept/october. Looking for 2/3 bedroom villa near/on the beach. Budget is circa $3000 p/m so looking for something pretty balling.

Does anyone know any local agents or good websites (apart from siamrealestate, phuketvillarentals etc.). Probably prefer Phuket but open to other locations.

Is it better to source it when over there?

Be good to see pics of other 2+2ers places with an idea of price.

Many thanks in advance.

Call your bank that the visa is issued through. I used to work in a credit card call center and this happens all the time. Your bank should follow it up for you, gathering evidence that you only received half the amount that was charged and will refund it to you. Unfortunately this is most likely just something dodgy with the ATMs themselves, nothing you can really do about it.

The people who still find it interesting can search one of the 1700 other times it has been discussed in this thread already.

This question has probably been asked a ton, but it's somewhat specific:
How cheap can I expect to find airfare to Thailand from San Francisco with about two months' notice, assuming I don't have a set date of arrival or location to fly to (pretty much anywhere in SE/E Asia will do)?

What is the best way to go about looking for such airfare, just check Orbitz, etc? I heard you guys talking about special promotions, where do you find these? I am an airfare fish.

when a girl/girls start giggling at you and staring when your doing normal daily activities...this would be the time to meet them.

for some reason everytime I have exchanged USD for baht @ a exhange booth the girls there seem to like me a lot

everyone- stop ****ing up this thread.

noobs- before you ask any question, learn to use the advanced search function.

Unless I am missing something, this is where the noob questions go. Impossible to **** up a thread full of noob questions - especially one that has been going since 2006 with essentially the same 15 questions being asked over and over. I assure you, the thread will survive the current group of same-same but different inquiries.

Chatter thread appears to be for friends and long term people. I can see how one could disrupt that thread with a beat-to-death topic. Doesn't apply in this thread imo. Or at least it shouldn't. If this thread has also turned into a frat house, time to make a new thread or something.

Also this is Thailand. When asking about visas or clubs or lots of stuff, 4,3,2,1 year old info may not be accurate. You guys should chillax, starting to seem like ThaiVisa around here. Must be something in the water...

Just read from thaivisa that apparently embassies are still charging for tourist visas (they were supposed to be free again from 1st of april)

good news is that phnom penh, cambodia gives double entry tourist visas now that they can charge for them so if someone has already seen vientiane and needs a double entry tourist visa spending couple of days in phnom penh is now an option while getting one

$70 for the 2 entries. airasia flies there daily from bkk. remember cambodia has $20 visa fee and $25 exit fee (you can apply for the visa when you arrive there and also pay the exit fee at the airport when you leave)

yes, you are missing something, two things, actually.

1. he didn't keep it to this thread. that's where my hostility came from, he cross posted into both threads. that turned it from a slightly annoying repeat question, to a really annoying one.

2. this isn't the "ask us to repeat the information over and over about thailand" thread. often, when it's been awhile and a basic question is asked, someone will pipe in with the same answer that is probably only a page or two back. the tone of this poster's question made it clear to all of us that have been around here for awhile, that this was likely to be another two page long ****storm about hookers vs "real girls" or whatever.

these two things together should hopefully explain the hostility. those of us who are building communities over here would like this thread to be of good value to people coming to be a part of that community, or just coming to visit. this topic does not contribute to that, and goes far to explain why people who are usually not so abrasive about answering a question that was answered 50 posts ago, might not be as accommodating in this instance.

April Fools Thai style!

It's tilting me that there's hoards of red shirt guys running around trying to overthrow the government and the baht continues to grow in strength against the USD. Sink. Sink. SINKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

i had the same problem with my phone. i think you might need to get a special card that allows internet as well as regular call/texts. Look at the instructions for your sim card. you may be able to go online and unlock the internet. gl, i never figured it out.

And who are you? The internet search function police? It must make you very proud to have such a prestigious position firmly within your grasp.

Nah, he is just someone who has been in the lengthy and annoying discussion before. Most of us would rather skip the discussion and just recommend that people do what they wanna do. If they like hookers, there are tons. If they like non hookers, there are tons. Just come here and do what you like. Easy either way. Hopefully end of discussion

what do you guys think is a good way to pay rent in bangkok?

right now i plan on just wiring money to my checking account through stars and then going to atm to take out the money needed for rent which is roughly like 1k USD$. do many landlords accept US checks? is there a cheaper alternative to what i mentioned?

thanks
