Hopeland is pretty sweet. Pool gets no sun and internet not great but otherwise good. Little bit of a walk to BTS though.

Sometimes Agoda discounts rooms there big time last minute.

Thanks man, banana IT was a sort out.
Although they couldn't do a VISA refund on a debit card ("against store policy"...) I didn't lose any $ as I exchanged for something of equal value in the end. This pissed me off a bit, I don't like shops who do this sort of crap, unless it is standard in Thai for some reason

2 or 3 bedrooms are available. We are getting a 3 bedroom place between 3 of us from 1st of june, not sure for how long yet we will do a week at a time first. It has 3 swimming pools, 5 mins from the beach, 15 min drive to patong where the main night life is. I booked online, the guy doesn't make you pay anything until you get there as you need to pay in bht so would get bank charges by paying now.

it also has free wifi, but not sure how stable the connection will be tho

seems like a really good deal to me...

Just browsed this epic thread, thanks to everyone giving out advice and telling stories of awesomeness in this and the chatter thread. I don't want this to get long-

So I'm pretty sure I'm gonna do it. I have talked with an English Academy there and the first one I actually really liked. It would be a 730-430 job where more than half the time you're just in your office, High-Schoolers too.

Even though I got my degree and stuff I'm still a grinder at heart, (MyBoobsAreOk and DrMuffin if any of you played on Party, i guess i haven't played on there in like a over a yr). Never worked a job till the end of college for resume-building **** and played pro again 1 yr after. I stopped paying the bills with poker about a year ago, downswing + tilt + life-tilt + more tilt + losing a ton in super fishy live games i was underolled for, bye bye br.

I have worked some crappy sales jobs around my hometown and recently for the first time in a long time deposited on FTP and cleared their bonus and did really well at cheeseburger stakes, (used to play $1 or $2, was playing .1, .25 or .50)

The idea of getting back to playing on Party while having a stable job with tons of free time in addition to Thailand awesomeness seems super +EV. Well, second best to those who live in Thailand, just play poker for 10x the stakes, crush, and are in deep sleep at 730am.

Here are the cities I'm looking at

Nakhon Si Thammarat

Chaya? (google maps say outside of BKK but i think thats wrong)

Surat Thani

Sawi (northish...sucks?)

What do you guys think? Other than a girl I know who is going to be working in BKK, I won't know anyone there and the headmaster said there's 2-3 other foreign teachers usually. Still really excited, I'm a pretty outgoing friendly guy. During the interview the headmaster said just me being laid back, collected, nice and friendly goes a long way so lets hope i dont noob it up!

Thanks for reading, I might pm some ppl who i think know a lot about something specific. I'm excited.

To anybody going to Chiang Mai immigration... Go as early as possible, I went there a little before 9AM, luckily got the last number in queue for my education visa extension and got asked to come back about 2pm.

Yeh the same happened to me also. Either go as soon as the doors open or just go at 1pm. I still only had to wait 30ish mins when I went at 1 though so it wasn't too bad

Go to Surat Thani imo. Its a short ferry ride away from some really nice islands (Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Koh Phangan). They also have an airport with short, cheap flights to bkk. Also, I wouldn't count on Party Poker being any softer than other major sites. The thing about the old days is, they is the old days.

Is the riot in thailand a reason for me not to visit? I am planning to visit in July 15th or so for a 4-5 day tour from singapore. My gf's mom is concern over the issue.

thanks!

It might result in some flight delays if they are still protesting by then but these sort of things are directed at the government, not at tourists.

+1

It depends what your going for, if you have to interview with the Thai ppl behind the desk then going early is a MUST (or run good like miriam). They have a sign "first 20 numbers go 8am-noon next 20 numbers go 1-4pm" so every person you are behind is an added 20-30 mins.

Re-entry permit/90-day check-in you'll be there <30mins regardless of when you go that line moved relatively fast when I was there.

money to live = 6 months rent + 6 months living expenses?

obv answer is whteva you feel comfortable with. but i'd like to gauge what's crazy/too conservative too
