Hi guys

I am flying into Bangkok on 13th April, and staying for 3 nights before leaving on a Cambodia and Vietnam trip, we leave Thailand on 17th April. I then plan to spend roughly another 2 months in Thailand, and I have a flight leaving Bangkok on 5th July. (We are leaving and re-entering Thailand by land, cos I know that affects the visa exemption)

I spoke to the travel company I booked it through, and they suggested I wouldn't need a visa when I arrived in Bangkok due to visa exemptions (I am a British passport holder). And that when I return to Thailand I will be able to get another visa exemption of 15 days, during which time I can sort out an extended visa whilst in Thailand.

I have tried to do some research on my own and it seems to me that in order to be eligible for the visa exemption you need to have a ticket to leave Thailand during that exemption period, which I would not have. I have tried to call the Thai Embassy in the UK to ask about this but couldn't actually get through to speak to anyone.

Will I get away without having a visa for the first entry, and get the 60 day tourist visa dated for my 2nd entry.

Can anyone clarify the situation for me? Any advice would be appreciated. Also TL;DR sorry.

planning my exodus from the usa after crushing wsop this summer.

1. need a suggestion on a decent serviced apartment building in bkk that costs like 1 to 1.5k USD a month. preferably close to other poker players, hopefully some other people are looking for a roommate?

2. what is the best way to bring 2 30's + a desktop or should i just not bother?

3. should i be worried about the current/near future political conditions for staying long term?

4. should i get health insurance?

5. whats the best line to take so that i will have to make minimal visa runs.

thx

Hey everyone, I tried searching for some stuff in the threads but had no luck, so here are some questions:

1) I'm trying to find out if its worth it to try to buy some perscription glasses/contacts in Thailand vs USA. I currently have no vision plan and it costs me usually about $60-80USD for an eye or contact exam and either $200-300 for glasses or $400-500 for yearly disposable contacts (Yes my eyes are that bad =\). I'm really hoping I can buy disposable contacts and get an exam in Thailand for cheaper, so if anyone has any ideas let me know.

2) When you rent the motorbikes, do you need to leave any ID or what not, or do you pay money up front?

3) I'm only staying about a week, but what are some things I should consider purchasing that is a better deal then in the states?

Hopefully people have similar experiences!

Hello pal.

Basically, you'll be fine when you first come into the country.
You'll get a 30 day visa on arrival.
Then when you go to cambodia (overland) yes, you'll get another 15 days when you re-enter ( used to be 30,but the fkers changed it last year)
As for the rest of your stay, you'll either have to keep on doing these stupid visa runs every 15 days to cambodia,or plan a trip to laos (they do double entry visa's there,so in effect you will have a 6 month visa if you do this.)

Another solution,is buying a visa back in the uk,cost around 120 quid, and you'll be ok for a year (have to leave the country every 3 months tho)You could possibly ask for a 6 month visa (im not 100% sure on this)

Hope this helps, there always changing the rules,it really is a joke. You want any more info,pm me.

It really amazes me,why the Thais make it so difficult for us to stay here.

In Bangkok is Koh San Road the only area where you tend to find groups of female tourists in nights out?
And are there far more in general in the island resorts?

Hey guys, I need some advice about Thai visas. I did make a thread about this, but Boss1115 suggested I might be better off posting it here.

if you fly out of the country you get a 30 day extension. I just recommend a tourist visa, which gives you 60 days in the country and you can get it before you arrive (you can get 180 days with two extensions and two out of country tirps too)

stay in patong if you want to degen every night without hiring cabs etc. stay in kata if you want to be where all the 2+2'ers are (we still pretty much go out every night, but we drive motorbikes most of the time, and only go to patong once or twice a week)

obv if your focus isn't partying but finding a place to stay, you should stay where you are going to be looking.

Did you find out if you are going to get charged a bunch of fees for bringing that stuff in? I'm going to bring my PS3, iMac, and laptop.

The tourist visas get you 60 days in country, then you have to get an extension (a simple trip to the immigration office), and then after 30 more days you need to re-enter. With a double entry you can repeat the process, so you get 180 days (I believe.) The year long educational visas require signing up for a class, and you don't need to leave on a visa run for the year. YOu simply go to the immigration office and get a stamp every 90 days.

there are loads of apartment being built in bkk right now esp near BTS. there are already existing ones in the touristy areas. make sure you check price/haggle because they will try to rip you if they think your a foreigner.

DHL is good for freight i guess. i moved my 22" in my luggage stuffed with clothings and it didnt die.

the king is ill and alot of people say it will be tumulous when he passes. i think red shirt parades are coming to an end.

get health insurance. more or less because sometimes hospitals will refuse to treat you unless you have health insurance.

i dont know about visas

99.999% of the time there's no tarriffs or fees on luggage because they don't check / don't care, excess baggage is $20/kG on my international flight From Australia to Phuket, then I'm not sure what excess baggage costs from Phuket to Bangkok (anyone again?). Fletch made the great suggestion of mailing over your clothes to save on the excess baggage. Finally another poster asked a while back - for the 30" just pack it in a normal suitcase and wrap it in a doona, with a rigid board of some sort sticky taped to the screen if your suitcase itself isnt rigid.
