Ideally, I'd like to spend a year there, which is why the CMU visa is great albeit being 30k baht.

I'm rly kinda confused about visa runs and all that, was under the impression you can't stay there more than ~ 5/6 months w/visa runs.

bump. been reading up and apparently they introduced this law ~3 yrs ago whereby tourists will only get 30days extensions with visa runs and after 90 days they will have to stay out of Thailand for 90 days before returning.

What is your experience with this?
again, i'm only interested in staying 12-14 months, no less

They won't be full so should be fine just showing on the day.

PS Are you with the BallBlockn crew or are there TWO separate 4-5 man crews heading here?

The 30-day thing you mentioned is not a visa extension or has anything to do with anything if you have a visa.

If you come into the country without a visa you will get a 30-day visa exempt stamp. Like you mentioned the law was before you could this only three times within six months. Atm there is no limit afaik.

But you don't have to worry about any of this.

What you need is a tourist visa with as many entries as you can get. Contact the thai embassy in your home country. After that is used you can get a double entry tourist visa from Laos (good for six months) and you should have 12 months of stay done

Hey Juha,

I should know this, but what do I do with my dbl entry tourist visa. the 30 day extension expires in 3 weeks. Can I just quickly cross the border to burma for an hour or so, or do I have to fly to a more baller ass country like laos or cambodia. ty kap.

Kap just go to Burma for 2 min and come back.

Make sure you check the enter before date from the visa sticker and come back to Thailand one day before that date at the latest.

so, you can simply leave and re-enter the country to renew your visa, regardless of which one you're issued?

also, someone told me that i don't need to worry about getting a visa here in the us. as long as i have a passport, photo ID, and cash to prove i'm not busto i can get one when i arrive there. is this true? if so, where exactly am i suppose to go (i'm assuming this doesn't all happen at CNX)?

I cannot find information anywhere about the "Education Visas" you guys keep talking about with 1 year validity. All I can find is this:

Quote:

yeah all i know is i get a 1yr ed visa when my tourist visa expires in june. i think (not 100%) you don't even have to leave the country. just check in with immigration once every 3 months. maybe one of the other guys doing the course at cmu can confirm.

You will b checked at bkk airport i believe. If you don't have a visa and fly into thailand u will get a 'visa-on-arrival'. It only lasts 30-days. Tourist visa lasts 60 + 30 days for an entry. You can leave/come back if you have multiple entries.

They won't check that you have cash, that's mostly for ppl flying from poorer nations to make sure they aren't coming to Thailand to work illegally and never leave.

If you sign up for 1 year school program, you can get 1 year visa. Talk to the school about it. They know the process.

But yes, there are ED visas that work on rolling 90 day basis...

Slappz,

visa on arrival is actually something else but ppl confuse visa on arrival to the visa exempt stamp all the time. Check the sticky for moar info

storkk,

if you are staying under 30 days you got ok advice. If you are looking for long term stay his advice was pretty worthless. Get a tourist visa from home before you come if your plan is to stay for more than 30 days

I'll write better resonses after I get back to Phuket. iPhone+isaan Internet is not the best combo to help

Have you gotten the opportunity to have a "chop down tree" competition with a Thai dude twice your age and half your size yet?

It's reallly fun. Especially when you realize he has 100x the endurance you have.

you have to leave the country to get the visa processed at a Thai Embassy. I think CMU takes care of renewing it every 3 months.
