I want to buy a couple of poker books and for some reason, I don't think I'll find them in Bangkok bookstores. What's the best way... eBay, Amazon...?

Restaurants

OBV depends upon what they like but I'll give you my favs with description.

Others:
-Built into a cliff overlooking Karon bay. Super nice views.

-Ban Pae Waterfall/Jungle trek/Gibbon Project

---Gibbon project monkey house
-Karon Viewpoint
----Located on Jungle/mountain Rd from Kata to Rawai
----Super nice elevated views of Kata/Karon and the ocean
-Wat Chalong
----Biggest Bhuddist Temple complex in Phuket
----3-4Km from Chalong circle down Chao Fa West Rd.

#2 Tourist oriented shows
-Phuket Fantasea
Location: North side of Kamala
---all day Cultural Show with elephants and traditional dance/fires dances and Thai food

-Simon's Cabaret

---If they are fairly open minded. It is a 2hour Show of extravagently dressed Katoeys singing and dancing. It's not degen in any way. Always see busloads of Korean and Japanese tourists going to it.

#3 Elephant Trek thru the Jungle
Location: Mulitple

-In patong on the hill rd right across from Safari Nightclub

#5 Phuket Zoo
Location: Phuket Town about 6km from Chalong circle down Chao Fa East Rd turn right and roll another 4km.
----Small zoo (by western standards)
----Has monkey show and elephant show

Boat Trips

Definitely do a 1 day (leave hot at 7AM get back 6PM) Pi Pi Island Boat Trip.

Other options:
Goto Rawai Beach (it's a working beach not a tourist beach)
And hire a Thai Longboat (~1200THB) to take you to a private beach on one of the smaller close surrounding islands.

Car Hire
Best place I know is on Patak Rd in Kata/Karon.
They do cars daily at around 1200KTHB/day.
I imagine you could work a discount for a week + rental
I reccomend them specifically because I and none of my friends have ever had any "scam" or other problems with them.

I can get the phone number/address for you in next few days if you are interested.

Bike Rentals

Yes. Not sure where but I know they exist.
If they are staying at a big resort, the staff should be able to get that taken care of for them.

I'm not sure, but I was 4 kilos over and they told me it was no problem and didn't charge anything. If you're going to be close just don't worry about it or carry on an extra bag as they won't say anything at all if you're in 1st.

Thanks for the info man. It's going to be two biggish suitcases though. One for the 30" and another for everything else. And probably a solid 10-20kG over. I'll try to come close but I doubt it.

you should get someone like DHL to ship the bulk of your clothes and such to your hotel. I shipped 13kg of clothes with DHL from UK -> phuket and it cost aout $140 and only took 3-4 days.

obviously don't ship your screen though as you'll get hammered by thai customs who just make up how much they want to charge you. (i brought a ps3 from HK and the guy tried to charge me 13k customs fees, i managed to "haggle" him down to 4k)

Potential spam: i've got a 30" samsung for sale in bkk if anyone wants it

You probably won't regret making an effort bringing this stuff over unless you want to move around a lot. I miss my electronic equipment from back home

how much would a budget grindstation cost? i currently have two hannspree 23"s ($200/piece) and some $500 emachines that i got from wal-mart. i hear electronics are slightly more expensive in thailand, but i'm not looking for anything high-end (i don't really game or anything). would it be better to just DHL it to a hotel, stay there for a couple days until i find a place, then just move it with me?

Yo guys.... heading to Phuket from BKK in a couple of days and there are 4 of us, we are looking for a semi baller place to stay for a few days untill we start to look for a baller house.... I have tried the kata beach studio but it is fully booked on the day we get there.. are there any other nice places around Kata Beach? maybe like a 4 bed condo or something if not then just single rooms is cool.

just book any hotel that looks nice, it really won't matter much if you plan on looking for a place reasonably quickly

Meh Balla is easy.

My 2nd reccomendation for short term hoteling would be aloha residence. It is 10m from Kata Beach STudio and almost as nice(just don't have kitchen).

1KTHB/night.

it doesn't hae a website. SO just use the website for KBS for the directions.

They won't be full so should be fine just showing on the day.

PS Are you with the BallBlockn crew or are there TWO separate 4-5 man crews heading here?
