As far as I know Hull and Perth embassies are the only ones that give out this type of visa without a serious reason.

About pollution.. haven't you noticed the smoke in the air? Sometimes it's all over the city.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

we're in bangkok atm and we're wondering the best way to buy internal flights down to e.g. phuket. Is online best? do we use the usual travelocity or shall we go through airline sites? Or do you get sweet deals from a local travel agent or something?? cheers

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

Try airline sites. Airasia.com needs you to book 24h in advance online tho.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

Air asia is half the price though.

One way flight leaving tomorrow = 2200 baht.

My understanding is that it is "technically available" in every consulate. BUT, afaik, Hull, UK and Pert, AUS are the only 2 spots where it's available almost hassle free. Everywhere else you actually have to produce the mountain of paperwork justifying the visa. In Hull and Perth you basicly need to have a clean passport (not popping up on local or interpol criminal scans) and the appropriate fee.

I'm guessing, that since PokerSPiv is Perth homed in AUS he prob gets this isa. and confirm/deny said ease of Non IMM "O" in Perth Consulate?

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

I have never bothered to get the visa because I use visa runs as an excuse to do a bit of travelling around SEasia. I have never even been to the Thai consulate here in Perth. But I will get it when I decide to go back to Samui long term.

Sorry can't be of more help on that one.

Are you taking the baht bus to the border every XX days or something? ED visa is by far the easiest way to stay in Thailand without worry for 1 year+. Definitely the least amount of hassle. And for most people that don't take the absolutely cheapest transport and accommodations on their visa runs, it's probably the same cost or substantially cheaper.
The reason I wrote 30k++ is because Jah Onion specifically asked about CMU, the cost for the class is 30k baht. You have to pay additional fees for the visas/travel ++. I'm sure other classes are less expensive. The ED visa does provide piece of mind, that is part of the reason I chose the ED visa myself.

Other options I was referring to were tourist visas and the Type-O Non-immigrant visas. (previously mentioned in thread and FAQ) Both you can get from a thai embassy/consulate in your home country and they can last quite a while. I received a triple entry tourist visa by asking the thai consulate in the U.S. (lasts ~9mths). It does force you to leave the country (visa runs) but if you wanted to travel SEA regardless it can work into your plans.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

It seems a Thai Air internal flight may be 2x the price of an Air Asia flight or so.
So I take it people aren't agreed on a clear winner in terms of value then?

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

Question on Internet in Phuket - are there parts of the island which have better connection/reliability? I am considering moving to Phuket and thinking of living in the Rawai/Nia Harn area.

Thanks.

CDMA AirCard is location dependent.

Actual landline is consistently good everywhwere as long as you get right company/package (3BB/premier level)

Seeing as the flight takes about 30 minutes I dont see why you wouldnt just get whatever's cheapest.

i thought it took an hour?

i consider thai air to be at least twice as good as air asia, but that's just me.

another reason to get thai air is because price is relative.

as in extreme example, if thai air cost 10baht and air asia 5baht, would you still fly air asia on a 30min flight?

and a final reason would be thai air has a class above economy for fairly cheap. some people value comfort. and you can grind in the thai airways lounge for 30min and cover some of the extra cost

On a fully unrelated note: is there a bar in Phuket that shows Sky Sports?

There are many that show TrueSports (which I think is rebroad of Sky).

If it is about watching football there are tons. The Thais love EuroBall.

If it's about other sports it's hit or miss.

Sorry. I think the best place would be to say Chalong Circle, saw it yesterday and am quite close to it.

And you guessed the second past also, would like to see some English league one action but that also means that the bars might be closed at that hour so anyway have to get some streaming thingy.

From Chalong Circle to Central Festival is ez. 7km down Chao Fa West (The one with access to Big Bhudda and Wat Chalong.

After about 7km you should hit a HUDGE intersect. Central festival is on the let and can't be missed.

For the footie, Premiership will be shown in lots of small Thai restaurants that turn into outdoor football watching arenas. League one though......ew prob not so much. You should easily catch any Premiership or Champions League action but League one maybe harder to find.
