It's not really close to the "best" nightlife because that would be in Chaweng but this place is in Lamai. It is however very good value and has a rock solid internet service. And there is plenty of nightlife in Lamai too.

http://holidayparksamui.com/ is another place I have stayed and is excellent value for money, and located more centrally than Aumpai. I have not tested the internet here though so cannot vouch for it.

i cant work out where my "girlfreind" is getting all her cash from, any ideas? so last time i was in phuket I met this girl in sound, she def not a bar girl as she has too much money, she has her own 1 bed appartment which i stayed in for a week, iphone, laptop and recently just got a boob job, also when we were out drinking we would take it terns to buy rounds costing 300+bht. the only conclusion i can think of are she either has rich boyfriend/s who are pumping money at her or she is mafia. she is best friends with her sister also who also seems to live a baller life stlye. also i been freinds with her on facebook for a few months now and she never asked for me to send her money...

just arrived in phuket, still extremely tired and my battery is running out,
need to find a converter.

I booked 5 days at naiya buree resort in nai harn because it had free wireless
now Im here and I dont really like the location, feels a little bit like Im in the middle of nowhere.

newteabag: can you help me get the 15k/month deal at kata beach studio you mentioned or is it for everybody anyway?

Im feeling a bit uneasy about leavin my laptop here while going shopping, wish me luck

i believe that kata beach studio is currently booked up. I don't know what naiya buree resort is, but if it's a real resort, you don't have anything to worry about with your laptop (assuming you aren't doing stupid things like leaving your door open when you leave)

you are a little bit in the middle of nowhere, for a tourist. you're not far from the heart of the 2+2 community, though. we're pretty much all in Kata and Rawai, with a few stragglers around Chalong and P-town

at least the power connectors fit even though they dont look alike

yeah beach studio was booked up for feb thats why I went with this one.
dunno wha makes a hotel a "real" resort, http://www.naiyaburee.com/is the homepage,
guess I will chain my laptop when Im not here and hope for the best.

Im not a tourist guy, in fact I didnt come to party, drink and ****
but to come down from my ****ed up life back home and start a regrind.

otoh here its just too dead, it looks like my family's village in indonesia (I dont hate on it, its just not what I want),
I would def prefer to have at least the beach, some shops and restaurants nearby.

will ask around if I can at least walk to see a beach today before
getting a bit to eat and then crashing due to jetlag

I'm thinking of going to Thailand this summer for about a month (maybe two depending on how poker goes). So I guess I have a few questions that I would like to ask.

1) I'm 20 years old, and not too much of a drinker (an occasional drink here and there, but nothing to get me ****faced) would BKK be a good choice?

2) What is the monthly expenses on average, if you're not big on the expensive stuff (a nice meal here and there, maybe once a week) including rent/food/random spending cash. Excluding airfare, would $3k - $4.5k be enough per month to not really worry about if you'll have enough money to eat the rest of the trip?

3) How hot do the summers get? Is there a rainy season, etc...? Is there a big difference between the day and night in terms of how hot it gets? Meaning will I be sweating like a fat pig over a grease fire during the night?

4) Coming from America, and I know going to a country such as India/Costa Rica etc... it is very unhealthy to drink their water, or eat their fruit as it can get you really sick, is this the same way? Or are you able to grab a piece of pineapple and not worry about living next to the toilet for the following few days?

Then I guess, are any 2+2er's looking for a roommate for a month or two this summer?

Sugo, I'm thinking of going and would definitely want a roommate. What month are you going?

Does anyone know if it's possibly to rent a boat to live on for a short period of time?
Something like this thread talks about. http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/10...slands-352232/

I'm sure it's not as glamorous as I think it would be, but that thread makes me want to do it.

yes the best choice for clubs and cool lounges and big city feel, though drinking is very big everywhere.

2) What is the monthly expenses on average, if you're not big on the expensive stuff (a nice meal here and there, maybe once a week) including rent/food/random spending cash. 4k a month would be extreme ballin/ballin out of control here. i assume ur talking about just supporting urself right? yea u could eat at the expensive restaurants like ever day and go out everyday for 4k a month, prob with rent included.

3) How hot do the summers get? Is there a rainy season, etc...? Is there a big difference between the day and night in terms of how hot it gets? Meaning will I be sweating like a fat pig over a grease fire during the night?

yes extreme hot. dont worry about rainy season if ur in bkk. rain comes and goes, and u stop in store for a half hour and wait it out. its not a big deal. the heat is less at night w/o sun, but still its damn hot

4) Coming from America, and I know going to a country such as India/Costa Rica etc... it is very unhealthy to drink their water, or eat their fruit as it can get you really sick, is this the same way? only bottle water, but fruit and food is okay. its washed in the tap water, which may get u sick but takes only like a day or two and some antibiotics from any pharmacy to clear up

Then I guess, are any 2+2er's looking for a roommate for a month or two this summer?
dont worry, its extremely easy to only know english come alone and still have the time of ur life. if 4k a month really is ur budget, u have nothing to worry about.

That would be awesome for roomates. I'll probably head over in June or July, depending on situations here at home first.

Sounds like we are pretty similar in the going out/drinking department. Without going out an extreme amount I don't think I could even figure out how to spend $4k a month. You'll have plenty of money. You might acquire a taste for going out a lot more when you get here though... I did.

At the end of the month a couple of friends and I are getting our own places for a few months, but then are going to be looking into getting a house. Keep in touch and we'll meet up when you get here.

For any of the longterm residents here..Has anyone bought a motorcycle..new or used? Or had a gf or friend that would help in the procedure if needed? renting a moto on/off the last 4 months has added up.. as I've moved around the country a bit..

And has anyone bought or considered buying a condo/property somewhere to set up long term? Why not buy and rent out to future 2+2's since this Thailand-poker grind trend seems to be only gaining in popularity..

I guess I'm wondering if anyone has long term plans of being here and investing their poker money in a more lucrative gamble in Thailand, and has set up accordingly. After I sale my home, I look to relocate to the SEA region long term..

Keep up the good grind~

I've considered it, here are my thoughts. (I'd like to here others who have thought about investing here)

You can't buy land unless your Thai, very difficult to buy a house without having Thai ppl you trust involved. Condos are your only hassle-free RE investment option. Condos in Asia have notoriously poor upkeep. Many cities have so much new construction that an old condominium will be losing value and not gaining, not ideal for long-term investing.

Why would you want to rent out to poker players? I would much rather find an expat family than the younger demographic who will be traveling more often (more vacancies, more work for you) and more likely to decrease the value of your investment.

With those said, I do think South East Asia is the perfect place to buy real estate with so many emerging economies. My first RE purchase will most likely be in Kuala Lumpur, not anywhere in Thailand.

this isn't enough information to help you decide, the only thing you did clarify is that you aren't a nightlife guy, which is probably most BKK'ers #1 reason for living in BKK. there's a bevy of information on here about the different options, but the 2+2 BKK crowd tends to be a more nightlife oriented crowd.

2) What is the monthly expenses on average, if you're not big on the expensive stuff (a nice meal here and there, maybe once a week) including rent/food/random spending cash. if you don't go out regularly, and don't want to ball for expensive meals all the time, $4k/month is way more than you'll spend in any of the areas.

3) How hot do the summers get? Is there a rainy season, etc...? Is there a big difference between the day and night in terms of how hot it gets? Meaning will I be sweating like a fat pig over a grease fire during the night?

if heat is an issue, you should consider Chaing Mai or Phuket as better alternatives to BKK, which IMO is the worst area for heat. CM is cooler than Phuket, but Phuket has a sea breeze that keeps the temp more moderate. there is a rainy season, which hits both BKK and PKT pretty hard. I have no idea about CM's rainy season.

4) Coming from America, and I know going to a country such as India/Costa Rica etc... it is very unhealthy to drink their water, or eat their fruit as it can get you really sick, is this the same way? I've started drinking any of the drinking water that locals drink, with no problems. you'll get the ****s at some point almost no matter what you do. i eat fruit with impunity, always have, and have had no issues.
