I've stayed in 5 diff hotels so far in phuket and The Beach Boutique Resort in Kata was by FAR the nicest. Also one of the best locations. Think I payed 2200 a night. Would have been happy paying 3000 for how nice it was though.

those things definitely aren't fitting in my suitcase when I come back!

starting to plan my move- is it standard to bring desktop but buy monitors there? Has anyone shipped stuff over, or do you just bring as much as you can on the flight?

if you ship stuff over you might have to bribe/pay customs for x amount of baht to get your stuff in

well, I just got back from the streets and it was total chaos. there were people angry and yelling, and looking to start some violence.

they were all white, wearing singha jerseys, i don't know what political party they were supporting.

More specifically there's been political unrest since Thaksin was ousted in a coup in 2006.

The funny thing is that he was the first Prime Minister of Thailand to ever last a full term without a coup, making it halfway through his 2nd term before getting the boot.

He wasn't really any big loss though to be honest.

In all reality though it doesn't matter who is Prime Minister of Thailand as long as the King is alive. When he dies though it might be worth checking out another country until they get things sorted out.

A map wouldn't be useful. In the rare occasion that you'll find a taxi driver who's eyes are good enough to read text on paper, he'll still be unable to visualize how the map markings relate to the real world.

But if he knows the soi, he can just ask someone.

Map not helpful? lol i agree most taxis are idiots but it should have the address written in thai <---- which is better than pulling out your passport and saying Visa! to a taxi in a thai area that most likely speaks little to no english.

oh and the persons question im replying to is new and can speak zero thai so yeah print out the map imo. better yet have your assistant do it

while im indifferent about him as an individual my dad has done some business in thailand and his input was basically things went to **** after he got outted. i mean obv the airport closing ext but just that he was more logical with his thinking and granted alot of his moves benefited him immensely, were corrupt.. at least he thought about the actual moves itself which doesnt seem to be the case most the time. One thing is sure though which is economically thailand thrived when he was PM and no im not trying to start a debate just my 2 cents.

i've heard Phnom Penh's internet is ok. if **** goes down, and i'm uncomfortable staying, i think i'll give south or central america a try. costa rica, brasil, or the like. Belize has nice beaches, decent internet, and use american dollars.

Hi all,

since i've a 3 month gap between now and my final exams, I already decided to do some megagrinding. However, in the Netherlands, where I'm from, it's freezing at the moment, so why not go to Thailand where it's 35 degree's?

Is it possible to rent something for only 1 or 2 month(s)?
Otherwise, how much for a month in a hotel room?

What do you guys spend on avrg a month?

Thnx.

(I realize this is asked and answered over a million times already, but I'm to lazy to scroll through 900 pages... )
