same phenomenon can be seen when nordic tourists go to london on vacation. many nordics get killed in london like that, cause they look the wrong way at the wrong time.
For me it too 2-3 weeks to get my subconscious to think left side traffic. In those weeks I was very careful when doing anything in the traffic. Walking or driving a bike. Just common sense.

there are VERY few sidewalks or roads where you can drive a bicycle even semi-safely. and atleast in phuket distances are pretty big between places.

there are some people who cycle as a sport but for moving around very few

I got scooter yesterday, and driving here for first time was a little scary, but it was also first time driving a scooter, also how often do people just ignore traffic lights? 1 car breaks a red everyone else just follows and ****s things up.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

just get used to the idea that traffic laws are more like traffic suggestions over here, and you'll get the hang of it quick

The only traffic law seems to be "use your horn before doing anything outrageously stupid and everything will be ok"

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

If you want to ride a motorcycle in Thailand, understand the risks, be alert, and enjoy yourself.

If you feel that is it too dangerous, drive a car or take a taxi.

Belittling others or arguing on an internet forum isn't going to change anything. Everyone has their individual opinions and experiences, and will make their own decisions.

Let's move on.

There's some sort of thing that's like a spicey chicken soup with tons of rice. I have no idea what it's called. I ordered khaoo phut gai at some shop off the street and that's what I ended up with. Worked like a charm, much better than what I wanted. Now I just wish I knew what I accidentally ordered.

mak = much. but the k is really quiet. sounds more like ma with a hiccup at the end as opposed to going into mach 5

ต้มข่าไก่

Dtohm khaa gai for me. Chicken soup with coconut milk and galangal root. Get it from a non-tourist place though, and make sure they make it spicy.

Or you could drink a few bottles of water along with the alcohol, that should keep the hangover from happening in the first place.
