Re: Ask us about Thailand!

can anyone recommend like 3 nice hotel/resorts to stay at near chalong or rawai for like around $20k baht a month? I found coconut village and floriville, they looked nice but are booked.

Is kata beach a nicer spot for me to go? is it much more expensive than chalong?

FYP.

Number one was kind of the point.

You got number two right but only in the respect that I don't really find it a laughing matter.

They're constantly littered with stupid sensationalistic topics which they then spam out to all members. Think of the type of people that are going to want to register and actually participate in that rubbish.

My favorite was: "Farang murdered in ritualistic slaying in Chiang Mai." Turns out a peder got his come uppance and the guy who offed him bashed out the lights on his way out which suddenly turns it into a "ritualistic slaying".

Do you know what my nurse friends who work in the ER used to call people with an inflated sense of self intelligence and pomposity?

i still think your way overestimating the danger. sure their not as safe as cars, but your odds of getting badly injured or killed are ridiculously low if you're careful and don't suck at driving.
I guess it depends how you define "ridiculously low".

1. A higher percentage of western tourists are killed in thailand each year than in any other country on earth.

2. The vast majority of those killed are killed in motor vehicle accidents.

So while it may be "ridiculously low" chance of occuring when compared to say, flipping a coin, the fact is your chances of being killed in Thailand to some kind of vehicular accident are at least an order of magnitude higher than in your home country, maybe even 2 orders of magnitude.

I'm not trying to be an a hole, though I should have known better than to try and raise a serious point on a poker forum.

If you were seriously trying to make valid points you could try not post fixing it with "ducy" and calling people dicks.

Yea, and the main reason for this fact is because there are so many idiots driving motorbikes without knowing how to drive, some drives too fast, and some are drunk. My guess is that without this reasons 95 percent of the accidents involving falangs would be avoided.

Since they drive motorbikes and not cars, almost always they are not hurting other than them selves luckily.

If you know how to drive a bike, you dont drive drunk, you avoid streets that stresses you out, and you go in a speed that you can handle (meaning same speed as if you would be on a bicycle for some) you will most probably be ok.

Drive as slow as you would if you were on a bicycle if you feel you have to. Nothing wrong with that.

re: motor bike debate

I am guessing the diffrence between driving a road bike in the US or UK that is capable of high speeds and driving a scooter in thailand where there is less cars is very different.

I have always kind of wanted a road bike but know I am way to crazy. The same could be said for a scooter but you only live once. Who wants to go through life scared of everything?

serious point in a poker forum?? you're talking to a bunch people that have driven motorbikes here for a long time, know a lot of other people that do, and make their living off risk and reward. seems like we should be more of an expert than a person who types a 1 line cliche that i've heard ad nauseum from movies, but i've never from any of my medical friends, and then follows up everything else with their personal opinion. if you were seriously trying to make a point, you'd back up your evidence (like pokerspiv did). i wish you were in thailand walking around minding your own business while i swerved into you like a drunken lunactic on my motorbike sending you flying 30ft into the air, and on the way down, just before your head splattered on the pavement, you thought 'isn't this ironic'

anyway i'm done with you too. it's been entertaining.

imo if you drive a bike for the first time in thailand there is a reasonable chance you will have some kind of indecent. If you have experience driving a bike you will prob be fine.

do a lot of people ride regular bikes? I wouldn't mind doing that a lot just for fitness if any other reason.

why would you ride a regular bike when you can have one w/ a motor? But seriously to answer your question, Bicycles are few and far between in Phuket, can't speak for anywhere else though.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

I rode a 750 ninja when i was in california. if i didnt have a bad back, i would ride a bike here too. but there is no question its dangerous. much more so for us who normally drive on the right side, like lessu says. it doesnt matter in normal traffic, but when you must make very fast decisions, your subconscious can take over and you do it all as if you were riding on the right side.

same phenomenon can be seen when nordic tourists go to london on vacation. many nordics get killed in london like that, cause they look the wrong way at the wrong time.
