Drake are you any good at futbol?

The last 3 Spaniards we had were excellent. Thus, if you come to Phuket we could use you on our weekly futbolings.

Plan B is going through an agency like http://www.siamrealestate.com/ or walking into a real estate agency here. This will be more expensive but might be neccesary during high season, unless you're really patient and/or not picky about location and quality of house.

Basically all 2p2ers live on the south of the island with most in Kata/Rawai and a few people in Chalong/Phukettown

Where the "best" area is really depends. A rough description of some of the areas:

Patong:
Main tourist city with a ton of bars, clubs, girls, restaurants and people trying to hustle tourists. there is a big mall with a ton of shops, cinema etc. but except for a few massive degens basically no 2p2er have wanted to live in Patong for longer periods of time.

Kamala:
Small quiet place north of Patong with a decent beach and easy access to ever nicer beaches in Surin etc. Not many restaurants, bars or nightlife in general but easy access to Patong if you wanna degen it up. there's a big group of Danish grinders living there.

Karon:
Quite a few bars and restaurants but way way less than Patong. In high season there are a lot of tourists and therefore also quite a few annoying touts etc. The beach is decent and easy access to Kata/Rawai and not too far from Patong.

Kata:
This is where most 2p2ers live. It has a nice beach (well 2 actually) but it gets very crowded in high season. There is a decent selection of restaurants (it has the best Pad Thai restaurant in Phuket ). The nightlife consists of only bars but there are a decent selection of those.

Rawai/Nai Harn:
A more spread out and laidback kind of place. Really nice beach in Nai Harn (probably the nicest of all the bigger beaches down south). It also gets fairly crowded in high season but not nearly as bad as any of the above mentioned areas.
besides bars here and tehre there are a few decent clubs located in Rawai/Nai Harn + it has a Tesco Lotus/Mall kinda thing so shopping is easier than in Karon/Kata
Btw if you value a nice view from your house you will more than likely NOT be able to find it here (in Patong/Karon/Kata this is possible)

Chalong:
Cheaper area with almost no tourists even in high season and in close proximity to Central Festival mall which has a really nice Cinema, restaurants etc. and also close to a massive park (where weekly 2p2 sport games are being played)
Downside is no beach, no views and very limited nightlife but its not too far from Rawai/Nai Harn if you wanna go to the beach.

Phuket town:
Also cheaper area with basically not tourists. It's a relatively big city and there is lot of nightlife with a bunch of really nice clubs and bars. You will also find a ton of cheap restaurants and generally a nice athmosphere (ie you wont constantly have to say no to people trying to sell you crap). Downside is no beach and a bit of a drive to get to one.

I replied to your PM but I'll post here as well. I'm interested in living Thailand this summer for at least 3 months beginning in May. I'm currently teaching in South Korea until April and then I want to return home for a month before traveling again.

I'm 23, graduated from UMichigan with a degree in Econ in 2008. I play microNL but I have plenty of funds saved up that money is not an issue. I went to Phuket this summer and fell in love so I'm just looking for a decent place with A/C and internet basically anywhere on Phuket where I can jump on my scooter and me at the beach in a matter of minutes.

I also have been in contact with another 2p2'er (Iworkforminwage) who is interested in doing the same. I have PM'd you both my e-mail and facebook. Let's get an e-mail going and see if we can't make this work.

I've heard that they are going to strictly enforce a alcohol act in Phuket. Found this source via some googling: https://phuketgazette.net/archives/a...ticle8105.html

If there is anyone here who has been in Phuket during the last month, I would appriciate if you could tell me if the clubs/discos etc have started asking for ID-card from foreigners as well nowdays before letting them in?

And does anybody know what type of ID's they accept at clubs in Thailand. I heard something that the only valid ID for foreigners is the passport, but for me it fells a littly sketchy having your passport with you when you are going out to party, since I'm afraid to lose it.
So, do you think a copy of the passport or a national ID-card from a euro-country would be good enough if asked for ID at a club?

Sorry for my bad english grammar, but I hope you managed to understand me.

Yeah. My point was that the bacteria is by far the most common and dangerous pollutant, and unlike chemicals or heavy metals can make you seriously ill even if only drunk once, whereas it would take 5-10 years of drinking water with high levels of mercury or lead to make you seriously ill.

The main thing to remember for people travelling to Thailand is that when you do develop dysentery-type symptoms (and you most likely will) the best thing to do is

A) Stop Drinking Alcohol
B) Drink lots of bottled water or (even better) Gatorade or other sports drinks.

Many travellers find themselves on a hospital drip if they continue to ignore the symptoms.

Wow thank you so much for all the info. Dinner is on me if I end up making it out here.

Does anyone have info on the best way to rent a house from the US? Can I do it online or is this a bad idea? If I find a place I like can I pay a 2+2er to set it up or check it out in person? What are the best websites to look on? For those of you that live in poker houses how did you find them? Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks again.

As mmerli said, the best idea is to come and plan on spending a week on local househunt. If you really must book ahead, check out houseinphuket.com or siamrealestate.com.

EDIT: This advie is based upon 3 years of my experience here, 2.5 years from Mmerli and us both helping mutliple others and witnessing both the successes and fails from different apporaches.
If you find somethign super nice, one of us could go check it out /arrange it if necesary.

you mean rent a house from thailand while you are still in the US?

I'd just wait until you are here. go to a hotel for the first few nights and then drive around looking for places. that's the standard and best tip we always give. there are a lot of ppl here who can show you around and tell you which areas are good for what things etc

Hey there. I'm a 100nl pro looking to move to Phuket in early/mid March and am trying to find a room somewhere around Chalong area. I will be training at Tiger Muey Thai and would love to move in with fellow 2+2ers if there are any openings. If not, can someone suggest a good place to stay around that area?

Beaches, girls partying.

Your 3 main choices are probably going to be

Pattaya
Phuket
Samui

Pattaya:
Largest amount of party and plenty of girls.
Only 2 hours from BKK.
For Thailand the beaches are pretty BUSTO though.
Also, Pattaya is pretty sleazey compared to the others.

Phuket: Best beaches IMO.
Goodly amount of party/bars/clubs/girls.
Decent access to surrounding island points of interest (Phi Phi)
More expensive in general than Pattaya.

Samui: Like a much smaller version of Phuket in The Gulf of Thailand.
Close to Phan Naang (sp blows) Island for monthly Full Moon Party.

For much more detail on any of the three:

Pattaya: I believe poster "Thomas.t" lives there.

Phuket: A bunch of us live here. Mmerli posted a really good breakdown a page or 2 ago

Samui: Pokerspiv lives there and he seems happy to answer questions.

Hope that helps.

EDIT: Must visit stuff......
--If you are near Phuket I reccomend at least a day boat trip to Phi Phi Island. Phi Phi Lei is where the film "The Beach" was made and is amazingly beautiful to see.

--Ko Phan Naaang for Full moon party if your interested in a 3 day rave on the beach with a lot of 20something westerners

--IN Phuket there are multiple sites to see as well as multiple awesome beaches.

--In Pattaya.....hmmm....well........try not to step into the river of sweat, beer, semen, and vaginal fluids flowing down the street.

---Samui.....I leave that to PokerSpiv to fill in for you.

Depend upon how long your staying and how often you'll be training. If you are training 6 days a week your prob gonna wanna be in one of the bungalows/houses that are very close to Tiger Muay Thai. If your happy to live farther away (Not spending all your time there) then options open up a bit. Length of stay influences which types of places you rent as well. <6mos and a lot of places won't rent to you and if they do, they charge a lot extra for the shortime.

Knowing how much you budget for living expenses (room/house/apt + interwebz + electric + Motorbike rental) would be necesary to make an informed recco. 1st getting here, I reccomend you budget at least $2K/mo (excluding whatever the MUay Thai training fees are). to start That 2K should cover your living expenses and a moderate amount of fun/going out/partying.
