screech, thanks a lot for advice, posted on Thailand chatter as well. Will be sure to check out some of the places you recommended.

Also, this might be a noob question, but how can you tell a go-go bar from a normal bar without going in? I assume only go-go bars have curtains in the front door blocking the vision inside?

I would not call that getting scammed. Everybody who has something to sell offcourse try to get as much as possible for the product. If the buyer then not has done his homework and makes a bad deal, he has not been scammed.

Just my view.

Oh god, that's not scammed; that's just ******ation.

Get yourself over to the chatter thread and spend a day or 2 with the guys. You'll be hustlin' and bartering and not getting screwed over in no time.

first of all, just don't do it. you'll notice the only person in the thread who thinks it a fine idea is also the guy who bought "ecstacy" tablets from a bargirl (xanex bars)

have a copy of your passport. show them your passport, when they ask to keep it, tell them you aren't allowed to leave your passport, and hand them the copy. try to have this interchange after you've already agreed on a price. if they refuse, just go to the next place.

I've never left my passport with a rental agency, and never had any of my friends do it either, and we've rented tons of motorbikes.

I payed 250b for a t shirt and felt like it was a scam, but I just wasn't in the mood to work girl down for $2.

from what Ive seen the simple way to tell if a bar is a gogo is if either girls are standing outside(normally in skimpy clothing) or there are pictures of girls on the front of the bar. Walking from my hotel in chiang mai last night I passed one and considered going in since I was probably the only white guy <50 these girls will see for a while, but I kept on walking

you might should make something up, then. everyone's first thought is that you got hustled by a katooey you brought to your room! :P

don't feel bad, whatever it was. 8 months ago, one of my friends came out, ignored every piece of advice we gave him, to pay 15k baht for a taxi-driver organized threesome.

If you are in Chiang Mai, those are probably karaoke places. They are basically the same as g-clubs in Bangkok, but about 1/3rd of the price and are open until 5-6am. 2 bottles + 4 hours + 3 girls = 6k baht. The girls weren't drinking much though, and they were a lot more tame than the Bangkok g-club/karaoke girls. Still lots of fun though. Does Chiang Mai have go go bars?

yeh tbh it would have been the gogo bars around the touristy area, I dont see why aceCR would have headed right down Chang Klan Road to all the karaoke places. That's the place to be though!

I've been hearing about the sick poker houses (penthouses, villas) in Thailand and the people who live in them. Any of you live in a poker house or know anyone who does?

I'm a HSNL player and I'd like to get in touch with other NSNL regs. Possibly arrange a meet up or a few drinks when I head over in Feb/March. I live in Singapore now so it's just a short trip up.

Can someone clarify how to get GPRS/EDGE mobile data access on 1-2-Call? Is it as simple as setting the APN to "wap" or do I have to register for a plan by dialing *138?

Also, anyone interested in buying a 17" Macbook Pro? If so PM me.

For the guys with ED visas.
Are you allowed to travel (in & out of the country with ED visa?
If yes what are the restrictions? Max number of trips, max length of stay...?
(since ED visas have class attendance requirements)

I have a 1-yr ED visa from Chiang Mai Uni. CMU is very lax with their edu program, it's a well known fact even the teachers will tell you. Some people take the course and stop going after a month after realizing thai is difficult and they still get the 1-yr visa. I can leave the country whenever I want, I simply need to get a re-entry permit (Single 1000 baht, Multiple 3700 baht) depending on how many trips I am going to make. Multiple will cover the entire year.

Travel is easily done, I've already done a 2.5 week trip to Malaysia and plan on doing a month in the States during the summer. No problem from a visa point of view.

Not all edu programs are the same, so make sure to do ur research if your planning on traveling. I have also heard from a classmate that Thai immigration has 'quizzed' someone when they checked in to make sure they were actually knew some Thai. That seems like a rarity however.

Thai internet is usually pretty good, especially in hotels. Just ask the receptionist, who'll know all the details about the type of connection they have. If she says it's "high speed", you're good to go.

Internet cafes are also good for grinding. I haven't been to this place yet, but I'm sure it delivers:

Lol. Appreciate the humor in the thread but this is supposed to be a thread for information about fellow 2+2ers wanting to go to Thailand. Too many levels and it starts to lose value for it's intended purpose.
