Re: Ask us about Thailand!

has anyone got links to sites that they used when renting a place in thailand? im not sure how much i should be paying/ what i should be expecting for various prices so would like some recommendations. id be looking to go for 3 weeks - 1 month in easter time.

dont know where id prefer in terms of regions, phuket sounds pretty awesome from what i know about it though. or pattaya as mentioned above.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

you shouldn't rent a place from the internet, but since you aren't going to be in thailand long you don't really have a choice. a serviced apt would be best if you were staying in bkk or phuket town, but i guess you want a beach and the latter is about a 30min bike ride from phuket beaches. maybe one of the phuket ppl can help you out.

in terms of regions, i don't know pattaya, but phuket has nice beaches and western conveniences, and has a lot more 2p2ers to meet so it's prob your best bet.

When are you going to update the FAQ Roger? Still no info about Samui or Pattaya in there.

I don't know anything about Samui or Pattaya, but if you would like to write something up I would be happy to add it. Contributions are definitely wanted.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

I'd be extremely grateful if people could write up some mini-reports about the New Year's Eve at different areas of Thailand. I've been staying in this busto town in Southern Thailand for over 3 months now and apart from that only stayed in Patong for a month and been to Hat Yai many times, Krabi and quite a few other smallish towns around the area.

Now, there's no way I'm staying here for the NYE. Furthermore, I'll have a good friend of mine flying in around 25 Dec for a month or so. So far, I've got Phuket Town/Patong (pretty much know the ropes in Patong) or possibly Bangkok on my mind. Possibly Samui, Phi Phi, Pattaya or even Hong Kong as I've got a decent chance of getting free accommodation near the centre of the town there. However, it's my first NYE in Asia and I really haven't got the slightest idea of what to expect.

Basically, I'd be looking for something WILD rather than chilled-out (most likely eliminating Phi Phi etc) and I'm very much a clubbing type of guy. On the other hand, I imagine Bangkok could be a bit too hectic as it'd be my first visit there as well. I definitely wouldn't want to end up in a wicked city but not know where to go for the best party action. Money is not really that much of a question although I probably wouldn't be able to comfortably stay in Singapore, Tokyo and such. However, pretty much willing to fly anywhere in (SE) Asia.

So, please post about your past experiences and why not even your plans for the upcoming NYE.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

Johnny Jazz,

reading your post I think you would be most happy in Bangkok. Maybe get there few days before NYE and read this thread. I am sure people will be posting more info about NYE in bkk when it gets closer

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

You can't really beat Hong Kong for partying, especially if you have a free room on the Island.

I'm sure all the maids will be out to play on NYE too.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

Thanks heaps for your quick replies. Hong Kong really does seem awesome. Which really sucks, though, is that I've just returned from a visa run (single-entry) few days ago and have the next one already planned for the end of January (to Australia). We definitely want to check out Pattaya and most likely a couple of islands near the south-western coast of Thailand in January as well. Leaving the country for the NYE would kind of mess up these plans. If we do end up getting the free apartment, I'll definitely still consider HK.

Could anyone please write a few sentences about their experiences of the NYE in Patong and/or Phuket Town? A few of us are a bit more chilled-out guys and I wouldn't mind hanging out at a beach hungover either. The hordes of European chicks most likely flocking the area around the end of the year would also definitely be a major plus as I haven't seen one for months! On the other hand, partying with the majority of people being middle-aged farang guys isn't my cup of tea at all. Any thoughts on that?

Damn, it's difficult to accommodate everyone's needs if there's several people in the group. Fortunately, I'll still be the decision-maker at the end of the day :P

Leaving the country and then re-entering less than 30 days before your next visa run won't mess anything up at all.

Hi guys in Thailand. I hope life is good! I'm about to start some snowboard lessons.

Unfortunately, for the citizens of my country, one must apply for a visa before travelling to Thailand, meaning no visa or any kind of an entry-stamp on arrival

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

Samui is a better option than Phuket if you want to party with other young people.

You have the backpacker mecca of Koh Pang Ngan a short boat ride away, and Samui itself (chaweng mainly) has a lot of bars and dance clubs catering to the backpacker crowd as well.

Most of the young people there are English/German/Scandinavian.
