And as for Chiang Mai compared to Phuket , Samui & BKK.......It's my fave so far because.........

Cheaper and more varied accommodation

Cheaper women (though I have now tired of whoring) And not so in your face/pushy girls

Cheaper food

Less pollution than BKK

Slightly more sensible drivers ( though still lots of fun )

Pandas (supposedly)

Has Pandas! (3 of them). I saw them the other day

Quick ATM question.

I took out 10,000 baht today at random ATM, this seemed to be the max allowed. I then went back to the ATM to take out another 10,000 and it won't let me. I tried a completely different bank ATM and still no dice. Is there a daily limit of 10k? or did my bank (BoA) put a flag on my card because I'm in Thailand and didn't inform them yet.

Is there a better way to get my monies?

ATMs can be really finicky beasts here. Not sure what happened in your case but I've def. had problems with multiple withdrawals in a day before.

FYI Bank of Ayhuda (the yellow one) has 20k max withdrawal in it's ATMs.

probably some limit on your card in your home country.

bangkok bang has 25k limit per transaction. some bank has 35k but forgot which one

you can open a bank account in thailand and wire money there. it is much better option for me as the charges from my bank in finland are ridiculously high so it is much cheaper to wire the money

Was just about to post this.

The new location is Chaeng Wattana soi 7. The street is completely desolate aside from this enormous ultra modern angular style mirrored monstrosity of a government building so it's impossible to miss. Much nicer facilities but it sure is an annoying trip now.

There probably is somewhere in the building but I did not see one. The new place is massive. There's a food court and some fast food places in the bottom, a small shopping court (JJ/mbk style), lots of coffee shops and a ton of other stuff.

ill be heading over to thailand/singapore later this month for a 3 week holiday (travelling with a friend).
I've been in Singapore for 3 weeks now.. for the Formula One race, and more.. I've stayed at The Mittra (hostel for about $18/night) it's out of the main area of town, but easily accessable by MRT. Beers and drinks out are expensive compared to Thailand for sure, and the MRT stops at 12ish, and then Taxis charge 50% more for fares..Clark Quay is a good area for expats to drink at, party late nite. Clubs, hooka bars, etc.. Chimjes is another spot..expect $10USD for a drink when out, though there are some Happy hours to be had also. I think a good city, Asia Lite (as Bourdain calls it) clean and easy to get around.

I'm heading up to Thailand soon. Also the notorious 4 floors of whores on Orchard Road is a girlie spot..if looking for that. The food here is great, more variety than Thailand, and better! ..24 hour food courts, etc.. Lots of high end shopping too. Not much polution, beaches are a minus though..so get that in Thailand. this is a metro city

Good travels

the beach on sentosa wasnt that bad , kinda surreal with the million cargo ships covering the horizon though. better than no beach like bkk at least.

Hello, just arrived at Phuket. We are looking to rent a house, but we don't know where to start looking. Any help? thanks

what kind of place are you looking for? how many bedrooms? what budget? what do you want near? what do you want to avoid?

if you are comfortable driving a motorbike here rent one for a few days and browse through for example karon, kata, nai harn, rawai, chalong, phuket town etc. if you find some area you like a lot just go through soi to soi looking for house for rent-signs

it's a good idea to stay in a hotel for a few days and spend the time at different locations so you will find out which area suits you best

Wow,

Don't listen to joel on anything that isn't a) drinking or b) slutty girls. On those 2 things pay very close attention however.

Actually go out and see parts of the country. I thinik khaosan is worth a peruse or a few nights stay; if you like it stay longer, if not go elsewhere.

p.s. <3 you joel

Hi guys,

Should i get a credit card before going to Thailand or do you reckon a debit card will suffice?
Ask us about Thailand! Quote

Many places don't even know the word credit card....

Just need something to get cash from the ATM.

bbq chicken and bbq jerky things are the meat-on-sticks, right? I'll go through 5 of those easily as a meal.

Most of the stuff in your list is like 100-400 calories. I'm sorry, but I don't call a 1500 calorie diet "eating well". More like borderline starvation. No wonder all the Thai guys are skinny as twigs.
