Hi, i'm going back to thailand for a few months with my girlfriend (i know, i know..) and i was planning to grind regularly, though we'll be moving around a lot.

Reading previous posts my best guess is that i should go with CAT CDMA.
I have few question about it.
Is it reliable enough to be used as a main connexion?
Does it works on semi remote location like koh lanta, koh tao etc..?
How is latency? Since i play mostly HU not having timing tell really hurt my feel of the game.

Thanks!

if you are moving a lot then yes, cdma sounds like the best option for you. you should also find out if the places you are visiting have internet and use it as backup.

reliable? for me the model i used to grind few nights i had no problems. a friend who uses a different model and like 10 meters from my house got some lag with his. we havent figured out the main problem yet though

location? it should work everywhere in thailand except in bangkok. it just depends how far away you are from one of their towers.

latency? i get 115ms to google.com and 300 to partypoker.com. if you want i check some ip's for you just PM me or post here

Thinking of heading to Koh Samui for the Full Moon party (or going there and boating it to Haad Rin beach, I havn't fully researched it so I could sound like an idiot if the beach is at Koh Samui). One of my mates went there last year and said it was amazing, anyone else here done new years there?

I've been using the CDMA EC226 modem for a few months now as primary connection and so far I'm pretty happy with it. I have other friends in Rawai who bought two of them recently because their ADSL wasn't working properly and they are grinding happilly with it too (6 max and HU).
From time to time I have some annoying lag or even disconnections but usually it works really good. I can see I don't have the fastest connection in the full tilt antes game where i'm often the last one on the table to post it, but it doesn't bother me at all when I'm playing.

Edit: if you don't have a fixed address in thailand for billing, then it may be a problem to get the subscribtion... Anyway my friends who bought it recently had a free 3 months subscription with the modem, so you might give a bogus address and then cancel it when you leave thailand.

you can pay the bills at their office so doing that in advance is probably the way to go if he is moving a lot

yeah the fmp is on phangan, i didn't really like it but some people do.

i mean having buckets of redbull/whiskey on a tropical island can never be that bad, but i just thought it was way overhyped/nothing special. plus the music hurt my ears

I'll ask again but I think it's TT&T max package. Working fine for 6 months and then suddenly the connection started to lag like hell...

CAT CDMA in Samui..............

Pretty good in Lamai. Not as good as Phuket but definitely useable.

Was multitabling on the beach and was a tiny bit laggy, but could watch youtube at the same time.

Am staying here (as previously recommended by someone)

It has THE best connection I've had in Thailand. And is great value for money with big spacious clean rooms.

Am using wifi but they appear to have a wired connx as well.

This CAT CDMA with EC226 really is the nuts though.......had laptop on for 4 days and it never dropped connection once !

For some reason the ground floor rooms are more expensive. The top floor rooms have a nice view and are cheaper and quieter.

It's only two flights of stairs ffs !!

if you get a double entry tourist visa it will be valid 3 months from the day you APPLIED for it, not from the day you enter thailand. this means you have to use both entries before it expires (the enter before date in the visa). in practice you will lose a few days depending on where and when you apply for the visa but you will have close to 6 months of total stay.

depending on where you live you can also get a triple entry which is valid 6 months and giving you almost 9 months of total stay before you have apply for a new visa.

Hi Yoyo.

Glad you are having good experiences at Aumpai. Yeah I think it's the best connection i've found in Thailand too, which is why I recommended it.

BTW I think there are the occasional home games organised in Lamai, ask Bart (owner of Outback bar). Only small stakes though, but it's a good chance to meet a few of the locals.

Does anyone know a place in Phuket to do submission wrestling etc without attending a class? I mean I just need like a tatami or a wrestling mat of some kind. I'm staying in Kathu and go to the university but they didn't have one.

you don't have to worry about that

you can always get new visas from neighbouring countries and/or just fly somewhere and back and get a 30-day visa-exempt stamp without any hassle. but in case you are getting the visa i was just letting you know how to optimize its use.
