I didn't read the whole thread so maybe this was covered but, what about motorcycles? can i buy one as a foreigner and can i take it across borders to Laos Vietnam and Cambodia? is this even done in southeast asia? Im in india right now and have been traveling around on an indian Royal Enfield, but this is very common for travelers and there are motorcycle mechanics every few kilometers. Is Thailand/ southeast asia similar in this regard

There are certainly a shyte-ton of motorcycles everywhere. The only thing you'd have to worry about is your license. But if you have a foreign drivers license and a little money, I'm sure it'd be an easy bribe to get out of anything. Crossing borders is a big ordeal though and I don't know how easily that would go over. It takes at least an hour to cross into cambodia and/or loas with all of the Visa stuff etc. I doubt you'd get across w/out the proper documentation for your bike and driving status in both countries.

I'm arriving in Phuket on Fri 4th and am gonna spend 4 days looking for a pad for 3-6 months

Arriving with my translator/temporary "girlfriend" to help with dealing with non farang landlords...... then shipping her back to Soi Cowboy

Some questions.............

Any rooms in a baller poker house going ?

If not ....is four days enough to find a pad ?

Should I buy my monitor in Panthip or can I get similar prices in Phuket city ?

But most importantly.....How the f**K am I ever going to leave this country ?

I own a motorbike in Samui, I got around the residency criteria by just registering it in the name of a friend's (thai) wife.

Only paid 15k baht for the bike, so it's hardly a huge risk.

If you get a Honda Wave or any one of the more popular models, it's pretty simple to sell it again when you leave. In fact the day after I bought it I had waitresses offering to buy it off me for what I paid for it.

i guess he is talking about cdma. costs about 8-10k to buy and 850 baht a month after that. up to 3.2mbit connection. works everywhere else other than bangkok

nope, no aircard possibilities for BKK (well not fast enough for grinding I mean) you can get GPRS, but that's very slow

get a good ADSL connection if you are in BKK imo

if theres 3g coverage where you live, like here in sathorn/silom and some places around ratchadamri and sukhomvit, that works very well from what ive tried, speeds up to 2mbit with iphone

You can get a 30" Mac Cinema Display in Siam Paragon, though you'd also have to get a Mac computer to make it work. You can run both Windows and OS X on a Mac - this is an expensive solution but once you get used to a Mac, I doubt you'll ever use a PC again.

Hi, i am a Indian born and raised in Canada, so basically a westerner. I have heard thais are racists towards Indians. I am going to Thailand with 2 white guys for 6 weeks. I was wondering how i will be treated, and will bar girls come up to me at the same frequency as they do with my white friends. Also if any indian westerners could tell me first hand that would be very helpful Any info will be appereciated thanks.

There are tons of indians here, possibly more than farang. No you wont find any racism, indians are as standard in thailand as ladyboys

edit-well one westernized indian friend i know came over and did have problems with the bargirls. some of them flat will not go with an indian. shouldnt' be too big of a problem though, but your white friends will get treated better by most hookers.
