Does anyone see themselves still in Thailand 10+ years from now?

Just wondering...

Well, why not? Provided immigration doesn't decide to finally just kick everybody out, why wouldn't someone decide to stay a decade or more if they like it here?

Re: Thailand chatter thread

is it worth going to thailand if you don't have yellow fever? i've never been into asian chicks, what with the general lack of curves/T&A. which is a shame because based on snippets of this thread it seems like there's plenty to go around over there

I was never that into asian chicks until I came to Thailand. Now I've come full circle and find white women exotic.

Very fat. Nice hotels, good meals every night, massages, activities, etc. You'll be very comfortable with that budget.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

Moving into a new condo in central Bangkok this week and I am researching my internet options. I want an ADSL setup and not some wifi/gprs/3g solution. Looking for something pretty decent like a 2 mb unlimited line but without going over the top with some expensive corporate package. I am much more concerned about performance than finding the cheapest deal around.

Which is the most popular & best ADSL provider/ package at the moment? Any recommendations? What are the bkk residents using?

Any feedback, good or bad, for your current ADSL providers on issues like drop outs, laggy connections, lack of speed is much appreciated.

I have tried to find info on the providers sites but it feels like a lot of info is in thai or tough to understand. Any useful links in the subject much appreciated.

Cheers

Sure come on down. Most poker players aren't in Thailand for the wide availability of hot Asian girls. They come for the temples and rich Thai culture

it would not surprise me to still be in thailand in 10 years. I do love it over here. I do know better than to think that longterm, however.

i just talked to the owner of my condo and he said the best thing to buy if you just want something to get by is the nokia from tesco for 890 baht. he said mbk can be quite a scam for foreigners.
Whats your problem anyway? Did you try to activate the sim card and bought credit etc. ?

If you know what you should pay no problems at MBK.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

go to MBK, look for what you want, and then shop around a bit. there are a million places competing for your money there, and you'll find a decent deal.

I'll try to get round to this soon but I'm a pretty terrible trip-reporter and very lazy.

A few 2p2ers are here at the moment that live in BKK who will be able to give a better report of the difference between BKK and Chiang Mai's nightlife. It's obviously noway as good up here but imo they have some pretty decent places to go out. I've hardly been out in BKK, apart from RCA, so I can't really comment much.

If you've got any specif questions on Chiang Mai though just ask and I'll try my best to answer

are things close by enough and as centrally located as bkk? is there a main area, like sukumvit in bkk, where mostly only farangs stay and hang out? are there different type of bars/clubs, some thai, some focused on English customers like bkk? is there upscale western malls like siam paragon? are people there more western curious than bkk, where white farangs become commonplace on suk? can u get around by walking or is a motorbike a requirment? is there an bts or train system?

im moving to bkk early next year, but will most likely check out chang mai as well. i've traveled to other parts of thailand, mostly the islands, and chang mai does seem new and interesting.

Yeh everything is really well situated. The layout of the city is awesome and you can get to nearly anyway within the city centre in 15-20 mins.

Quote:
is there a main area, like sukumvit in bkk, where mostly only farangs stay and hang out?
The top end of Chang Klan Road, where the Night Bazaar is, and anywhere along the East side of the moat is heavily populated with Farangs. These are 100% nothing like Sukumvit though so it's hard to do a comparison!

Quote:

Yeh their definately is. The ratio of thai bars/discos hugely out ways the farang places though. There is also a place called Nimmaheiman Road which is very popular with Thai and Farang, but the Thai still hugely out way the tourists still. Imo that's the best area to go out.

Quote:

They only have two shopping malls here. One is the Airport central Plaza which is really new and modern, really big and has everything yo need. The other is the Kad suan Kaey which is a lot older but still has cinema, bowling etc. etc. I almost prefer this one just because it is in the student part of the city and number of hot girls is unreal.

Quote:

It depends where you are in the city, but if you do head outside one of the touristy areas you can get a few curious looks. I've been to some areas on the student side of town where I'm pretty sure hardly any falang go. They have no signs in English, hardly anyone can speak English and no restaurants will have menus in English. I also went to an awesome Thai disco that was actually set out more like a western nightclub but I was the only Falang in there all night and I'm pretty sure I was the oldest in their too. This could be pretty common for BKK aswell, I'm not sure?

Overall their are a lot less westerners up here so they do seem pretty curious. ALOT more so than phuket where westerners have become the norm.

Quote:

You could walk around I guess and it probably wouldn't be too bad, but getting around is so cheap I don't think there's much need. Getting around the city on a motorbike is really easy, once you've mastered the one way system, and you can rent a bike for 100 baht a day/2000 baht a month.

Quote:
is there an bts or train system?
Afraid not, but their isn't really a need for one.

Quote:

Come check it out, I'm pretty sure you will really like it.

2k baht a month.

Tons of shopping, in the streets and in the malls. Lots of temples all over the city. Doi suthep mountain has lots to do and that is right at the foot of the city. They have 3 parks that I can think of in the city centre. There is a really big lake about 20 mins drive away which has really cool restaurants all around it and you can swim/do some water sports. I think their are like 30 different waterfalls close by, up in the mountains. They have a zoo (pretty terrible though). And they have a Molly Malones.
