Hey guys, will be in BKK on December 1 and its my gfs bday. Looking for a pretty fancy restaurant to goto. Unconcerned about the cost. More about the quality of food.

I liked Zense http://www.zensebangkok.com they have 4 different cuisines so you should find something you like there.

lol noo ac? Even if you go in the cool season your gonna need an ac just to sleep. I suppose it's cooler in phuket, but bangkok is like 30-35c everyday for almost all the months.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

I'm heading out to Bangkok in January. I've got a friend who would like to come as well but he would need to find a football (soccer) team to play for.

Anyone got any idea what the standard is like in the Thai league? Or how to go about trying to get a trial? My friend plays semi-professional in England two leagues below the football league.

its possible to reduce the use of the ac, u can save a little electricity this way. but living without it sounds pretty brutal. i did it for about 2 months, but that was dec and jan. any other months are a lot warmer.

The Shangri-La hotel has a nice restaurant where you can dine outside/next to the river.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

how do visas work over there? do you need to get one in advance or can you just get one on your way through passport control?

also ive heard that you can only get a visa valid for 3 months and then you have to leave the country for 3 months before you can apply for another one? is this true? if its true is there any way around it for someone wanting to spend a full year there.

thanks.

I was in thailand and burma from feb to march a couple years ago and it was fine. def makes you only use the room for sleeping though.

I was paying 500 baht(15$) a night for a room with AC and nice bathroom in Patong 2 years ago, I don't think you will have much trouble at all.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

Hey guys,

Im planning on heading to Thailand within two months to play some online poker with a friend and just chill while we there.
As far as I know there are already a bunch of 2+2ers out there and maybe they can provide us some information wich might help us out.

Like;

1. How to get a setup there? How much does electronics like big screens cost there? I heard shipping was expensive.

2. Where did you find the best house/appartement? You looked for it online or right at the spot?

3.. What is the best location to stay? Might be personal, but still usefull to know what location americans prefer to chill and play.

4. What is the best way to pay overall in Thailand? Is there good ATM machines or is a creditcard a must have?

5 Do you have to give up your exact location to pokersites/neteller/moneybookers I dont want locked accounts or something like that

Thats all I can come up with for know, but any tips about first trip over or something that might be usefull are welcome in this thread.
thx.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

1. Don't know about this one, never looked into it.

2. I'd get a hotel for your first week, then look through online listings and visit the apartments that interest you. You're going to get better prices if you rent from here and you'll be able to make better choices as far as location goes.

3. Anywhere close to the Skytrain/subway. Bangkok traffic is a nightmare, you don't want to be stuck taking taxis everywhere. A lot of the guys I know seem to stick around Silom/Sathon, but I personally live up near Huay Khwang.

4. ATMs are everywhere. I don't have a credit card and have no problems.

5. There's some trouble, but nothing that can't be overcome with a VPN. Ask about specific sites, I'm sure people will be able to help you out.

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

You can get a room with AC for 6000 baht a month anywhere, it won't be a very nice room but it's better than not having AC.

By the day you will probably pay around 500 baht/day for the same room, so its much cheaper if you plan on staying in monthly increments.

1. i paid 14k for a 24" 1920x1200 monitor a year ago. i'm sure the prices have gone down from that

2. driving around

3. depends what you are into. there are some people like myself who don't like in a huge city like bangkok and then there are those who consider it the only option. most of 2+2 are in bkk and there are few crews in phuket also.

4. open bank account here, wire money there. have some cards as backup is what i have been doing.

5. not with party atleast

Phuket is the best place. Grinding and chilling in a big filthy smog filled city is not my idea of grinding in paradise so Bangkok basically sucks.

Obv staying 5 minutes from the beach is way way better for "chilling". On top of awesome beaches Phuket also has a ton of stuff you might miss on a smaller island like cinemas, good hospitals, proper internet etc.

PS. I'm not American so my advice is obviously not valid

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

driving around looking for a place only really works if you know where to look. driving around looking for a place in a bigger city or if you dont know where in phuket is good, would suck.

oh and for chilling i guess phuket should suit you well, then if u get bored and dont mind a big city with proper nightlife come bkk

Re: Ask us about Thailand!

Hi guys, firstly just wanna say thanks for all the useful info in this thread. it certainly makes things easier.

i have a couple of questions.

1, i'm going to head to koh samui, or phucket in a few months for 3-6 months. what would you say are the main differences (if any) between the 2 for living/grinding? i know koh samui has excellent diving which appeals to me.

my plan is to be mostly chilling/grinding, just outside touristy areas, close to beach. then hit the town a couple of nights a week for some sexy fun time!

2. i need to get a 24 monitor, can i get these easily in these places, or would i need to pick one up in BKK and cart it down with me!

cheers
