Does anyone live in Chiang Mai and play poker? I am looking to move there and wanted to know what my best bet would be in regards to setting up a reliable internet connection. What seems to be the minimum speed in order to 4 table or mutitable. Any input would be much appreciated.

Has anyone tried to fly into BKK with a one way ticket? I'm planning on doing this and wondering if there will be a problem at immigration, also if I can just explain that I plan on traveling around SEA without a return flight.

the rule is that airlines have to make sure that their passengers have a return ticket within 30 days of their arrival. the airlines will get fined if they get caught not checking this. it is all different matter if they actually care or check anything. it depends on the country and airline and the cycle of the current employee at the gate.

possible solution:

book some cheap flight to another country that you may or may not use

or

get a tourist visa. they are free at the moment so the only thing you need is a visit to the thai embassy in your home with some documents. with visa you dont need a return ticket

or

dont do anything and run good

I booked a flight on airasia.com to malaysia for like $30 and then just ignored the flight. Was able to get a visa and arrive in BKK with essentially a one way ticket and an added $30 expense.

I'm currently living here and have two different connections that I use. I have a C.A.T air card which was originally going to be my backup internet but I mainly grind on that now and it works fine. I've also got a TT&T maxnet connection that I rarely grind on but two 2+2ers came last week and it seemed to work fine for them. I currently just have the cheapest package aswell that came installed with the house at only 490 baht. So I imagine if I ever need to use that properly I will get it upgraded and it will be fine for grinding on.

Are you living here at the moment, or just planning to come here?

What date do you get to Chiang Mai then? Let me know when you're heading into the city and I can come for a drink

$30 is a good price. it will be atleast 700 baht ($20) every time since that is the airport tax for international flights. sometimes airasia has promos where you only pay the airport tax but if you are coming in soon and cant wait for those expect to pay about 1400 baht for the ticket at the moment (~$40) (bkk-kuala lumpur example)

I've flown in with one way tickets a few times and never had a problem. Last time I flew in from NY and didn't have a visa either. Guess I got lucky.

another solution is to make a fake ticket since you are not going to use it anyway..

Yes, all sites are available except Betfair (and maybe another) which requires a VPN

Party works fine.

I am going to be in Ko Pha-Ngan next year and was looking to stay at the Barcelona Resort. has anyone ever stayed there, is there another resort you would suggest? I will be there for a week with the gf for the full moon party.

Is there a better part of the island to stay on? We are looking to spend less than 1K baht per night.

Thanks.

edit: If anyone has recomendations on national parks or just remote pretty places in general that would also be great. I am going to try and read most of this thread now, sorry if all this is already in here somewhere.

How comfortably could you live in BBK earning 30,000 bart a month teaching English, plus grinding? I play 3-6 LHE. I figure if i played 1500 hands a day i'd get $1,500 or so just in RB, plus another 1.5 K or so with my win rate being 1BB/100.
