Where are the best places to move to in Thailand for poker for 3 months?

- I’m looking for somewhere on the beach - cheap (I don’t want to be paying 500+USD for rent and ideally would be paying less).
- Somewhere that has some travellers or a bit of nightlife to enjoy on nights off.
- Don’t want to have to worry about wifi.
- Good food
- generally beautiful

Any help is appreciated.

Can find condos for 8-12k THB pretty much in all beach cities but if your budget in general is tight avoid Phuket because everything there is expensive.

My choice would be Samui but not sure how cheap is lately. If not I guess Krabi?

Wifi should be good pretty much anywhere besides some obscure islands with 5 people on them or something like that, all beaches in thai are pretty beautiful and food is good for the most part so you should be good with that pretty much anywhere.

Ok thanks. I've seen some posts in here about wifi problems and I can't be ****ed to move somewhere only to find out the wifi is too slow to play.

Samui seems pretty resorty to me, or is there more of a local feel to some spots?

Any recommendations on where in Krabi?

You should be good to go with whatever wifi your accomodation has + your phone hotspot jic it goes down.

Samui definitely is a place with a lot of local feel, way more than any other island in Thailand I've been to.

And Krabi is pretty small, so only place pretty much is Ao Nang.

Samui is cheaper than Phuket but not by a lot. A lot of businesses there are oligopolized like in Phuket and expensive. As usual the further you go away from touristy places the better, but Samui is not that big. I've not been there in ages, but I'm guessing Krabi is def the cheapest out of those three. Phuket > Samui > Krabi. But I'm guessing the same ranking applies regarding nightlife and other attractions, you get what you pay for. I think Pattaya is still pretty cheap and has a lot of nightlife, if you don't mind all the drunks, olds, hookers and ladyboys. Or Hua Hin but I think my 30k peeps hometown has more nightlife. Generally speaking 500 for rent is not a lot these days with all the inflation, Russians and Ukrainians and renting short term. Esp now in high season, if you wait till April prices should be better...

look into koh chang in addition to the places already mentioned. cheaper than phuket / samui. beautiful, easy to get around & rent motorbikes (altough it's dangerous), or with songthaew taxis.

you find beer bars / girlie bars in some parts and more western / touristy nightlife around lonely beach.

lots of very good beaches. generally very relaxed.

not (too) much of a backpacker / hippie / vegan "vibe", which i personally appreciate. quite a good mix of nationalities as well, compared to something like koh lanta.

downside: it takes a while to reach. i'd take the 999-bus from ekkamai to koh chang. it's comfortable. much better than minibus. or take a private transfer, which should cost around 4500 thb from bangkok.

no idea how many rentals are available on a per-month basis. i've always stayed in hotels there. i assume it's very easy to find something once you're there tough...

I've lived in Samui since 2009. You can still live a nice easy cheap lifestyle here, but its certianly slowly becoming more expensive. Still paradise though. I'm never leaving.

Koh Chang looks really cool. Definitely gonna look into it further. From what I’ve found so far my worries are it’s just gonna be a bit quiet in terms of nightlife and also will be hard to find an apartment for rent. Looks mostly like resorts.

I guess the balance is nightlife / activity and expense since Samui, Krabi, and koh chang are all on the beach.

Koh Chang is the front runner for me if I can find a nice place to stay.

Any other suggestions still welcome.

Appreciate all the help

Is it only stars and GG left that you are able to play from Thailand?
Sorry if asked a million times, plan to make a trip for a month or 2 and need to know what I can grind while I am there. I am a Canadian pro if that makes any difference in sites I can play, thanks!

Hi guys,

I'm in a kind emergency: I'm blackmailed about playing poker in Thailand and not paying taxes.

My question: Does someone knows a lawyer with experience in this field to get some legal advise?

Background story: I'm living longtime in Thailand as a poker professional.
