Without knowing your budget, it's hard to give you any advice.
The Nimmana is one of the best place to stay in Nimman.

@homerjunior : I also overstay for 89 days in my first months in Thailand.

There's 2-3 private games. DM me I'll link you up.

As for Chiang Mai, Niman Is a bit more expensive than everywhere else since it's the busiest area in the city, but still cheap if you compare it to pretty much anywhere in Bangkok or Phuket. You can get an excellent place for $500-$800 monthly.

In Chiang Mai, you have 2 big tourists area -- Niman & Tapae Gate.

Niman is more Asian-oriented (though there are still plenty of foreigners) & Tapae Gate (which is more for sex tourists, foreigners, etc..)

At the end of the day, before you rent anything I suggest you come here and rent an Airbnb for a week or so and explore the city. See what you like the most.

Have fun and welcome here

Any tips on not getting ripped off (at least not badly) on price/quality of weed in Bangkok?

I assume heavily tourist areas will charge more.

I'm going to Thailand for the first time in a couple weeks.

Well like, just shop around a little bit. I suppose everywhere I've been since the legalization qualifies as tourist area, like much of TH, so not sure if it's cheaper elsewhere. Prices are not that low but most offerings are ok IMO. Even just the guys on the soi11 / sukhumvit road were fine, it may not be the most amazing stuff ever but they will not sell you crap IME

1g is not worth (shouldn't be charged) more than 450-500 THB (and that for imported TOP TOP TOP shelf stuff). In CNX can get decent stuff for 220-250 THB+ and if you buy 3g or 3.5g most dispensaries have some kind of deal where you end up paying 300-350/g for top stuff. I imagine in BKK or Phuket those prices might be higher but you can probably find an online store or something.

BTW here you can find an invitation to a Discord server about cannabis in Thailand (I'm not related to this in any way, just a member)

In BKK you might not get these prices, top end stuff was up to 800ish/g IIRC, sure you can also get a lot cheaper.

Doubt there is much disruption. I was here in 2011 when 90 something people died in protests and they tried to burn down central world. Nana plaza didn't skip a beat.

yeap ... i hope its not such a kaos and one can go around in the streets w/o getting involved .....

i actually usually just hang around lat phrao , chatusak and kasetsart ... way off tourist areas ...

on the other hand if thai angry demanding change people are smart and -one feels simpathetic with their cause - they should try to hit tourism so factual powers and elites get hurt ...

they usually close airports don't they .......

hope everything goes smooth as i shall be travelling mid august for some months ...

cheers !

no, normally they don't. or at least it's quite unlikely. it has happened in the past, i think 2008 briefly. but it's normally more that they occupied the airport for a few hours or maybe 1-2 days max.

i agree with the others: the influence on your daily life as an expat or tourist should be small. i personally wouldn't book specific hotels yet tough and if demonstrations escalate, i'd certainly avoid the asok area and stay somewhere else in bangkok or go chill on an island or in the north etc for a few weeks.

Has anyone used the agent that thaivisaservice.com puts you in touch with for long term visas, guy called Dirk

I've used their main service that takes you to cambodia or laos and has been around for years, loads of times. But never used this agent, wondering if he's as legit as their other service

Before the farang guy that runs that site used to do long term visas but recently he said not anymore, and then they gave me the Line contact for this guy Dirk

30 day visa exemption stamp you arrive with can be extended to 60, then you can do 2 border runs per year, each of which get you another 30 day visa exemption stamp extendable to 60, so that's six months on those

then you can get a tourist visa as well in Laos but there are no set in stone limits, sometimes they reject people. If it's your first time ever they won't though I assume. So that would take you up to nine months, as tourist visas are for 60 days, extendable to 90

thaivisaservice.com takes you on the border runs and laos runs, for laos they let you know beforehand if they think you'll be rejected or not

What’s best way to find a condo/villa to rent for 6 month, fazwaz seems overpriced and I’ve joined a bunch of fb pages with dubious posts and high prices too, I’m looking to spend $1k usd per month in Phuket but everything I’ve seen seems pretty meh for that price

Best thing to do is find an air Bnb for a week, then drive around the island and find a place yourself.

From what my friends in Phuket tell me, 1k for a meh place is kinda standard nowadays in Phuket after covid.

The best you can find is probably a pool villa in Kathu/Chalong or a condo for this budget for 6 months. High season is from November to January and landlord will prefer to rent short term in high season. Phuket is expensive.

Yep, you'd prolly need to rent at least 12 months to get some decent long-term discount, esp if you rent into the high season. Phuket is expensive anyways, it was even before all the Russians fled there. If you can, consider some other parts of the country

My plan when I arrive in Bangkok is to just find a couple buildings I like and go directly to the juristic office and see which units are available. Supposedly you can get a decent discount not having to deal with agents. Maybe that'd work for Phuket too.

Hi guys 👋🏼 New to the forum. I moved to Bangkok about a year ago. Any advice on getting into the underground scene where I can play cash games? Haven’t played in a couple years and would love to get back into it.

Yea it's way better doing things in person especially for long term. You get to see the place and the area. In general anything listed online is going to be over priced.
