Good luck finding pretty much any street in Bangkok without a bunch of chaos on the daily.
Maybe if Hollywood Blvd had great transportation links to the other cool areas in the city.

I'd end up going to Chinatown way less if I lived in Ekkamai and had to switch between 2 lines (and pay twice). If we can find a place near Asok junction then it opens up a ton more options for stuff to do.

But yah, BKK has a ton of hubs, which is what makes it an attractive option. Probably can't refer to any 1 area as the center of it all.

It's just semantics anyway, BKK is a big city that, like many other big cities, has multiple centers but it's as much center of the city as it gets. Sure it has a lot of tourists and P4P but that's by far not the only thing going on there. It has a ton of regular bars and restaurants, shopping, multiple huge office buildings, parks, korea town etc.

Fair enough

Randomly discovered this music during a boom boom session when listening to Thai songs on YouTube. I know that usually nobody post music in this thread but this one is pretty nice, 10/10 for chilling with a poo ying

It's not exactly a question about Thailand per se, but was wondering. Does anyone else has horrible jet lag after travelling to distant destinations ? How do you deal with it ?

Not to be completely off topic - Thailand street food is vastly overrated. Change my mind .

Never had jetlag in my life but I heard RedBull was created because an austrian bussinessman that used to travel to Thailand for bussiness often back in the 70s had terrible jetlag and found this drink in a local pharmacy that helped him stay awake and regulate his sleep. He partnered with the thai pharmacist and the rest is history (including the infamous case of the pharmacist son and RedBull heir)

WRT street food being overrated, I'd say BKK street food is overrated, never had a WOOOW experience eating in the street there but didn't try that many given that BKK has so many good restaurants all around. But the street stalls there are dirtier than elsewhere and food is kinda meh yeah.

I once read a book whose authors purported to advise the President of the U.S.A. on this subject. I followed their regimen carefully. It did not work!

Here is what I suggest:

1. Do NOT use tranquilizers or sleeping pills, or I guarantee that you will be worse off.
2. If you do anything aerobic (e.g. running or swimming), go for an extra-long one on departure day.
3. Overdose on oatmeal (or your favorite colon-blow cereal with non-fat milk) on departure day.
4. During the flight, skip as many meals as possible.
5. Go to a drugstore at your destination and pick up a 30 ml. saline enema kit. Overcome your squeamishness. Warm it up in the sink.
6. Do NOT use tranquilizers or sleeping pills.

The curry/fermented issaan food that you eat with the darkish poo ying yes. The Thai Chinese food though is godlike and only topped by Japanese, with your occasional cravings for italian and burger.

Regarding food, I highly recommend doing one of those cookery day courses when in Thailand. Apart from learning to cook you get to eat what you have cooked under their direction from the basic fresh market-bought ingredients and it's a level above what you can get in a restaurant at least at any reasonable price.

I did Siamese Cookery House for about 1000 thb and it was well worth it.

They will also borrow your phone and do instagrammable / tinderable pictures and short vids of you cooking.

Thai Chinese? Don't complicate it and just eat Chinese. HK Cantonese food>>>>>>>Thai food. Especially seafood. I can count on one hand the amount of times a Thai restaurant hasn't over cooked a fish.
Thai food isn't bad or anything, just extremely overrated imo.

This looks awesome, will for sure do it. Might finally be able to cook something that isn't super basic.

Nice, ty for the rec, keep em coming.

I can recommend this banger, was quite popular last year but still hear it from time to time played in bars and by live cover bands. It's about coyote girls, a phenomenon that happens mostly in rural Thailand and some of you might be aware of, if not turn on the CC in the video (english language available)

I want to warn other people here --

I'm not a big poster here but I'm very well aware of who Cedric ''Bluestaze'' Brazeault. And I'm connected with people that unfortunately had the bad luck of meeting that piece of ****.

i live in Thailand since 2010, I'm a low-key kind of person but Cedric has been f***** people over and I used to live with him. His mother is famous in Quebec because she became the main host of ''Loft Story'' a popular talk-show in Quebec

I used to live with him back in 2010. He asked me to rob a bank (Thai) for him and he said he was gonna give me back 20,000 bahts. I was afraid shitless tbh because I thought I knew him (I didn't).

Dude is a total piece of sh*t and please don't fall for him. And if you happen to see him, please let me know.

Cédric si tu est pas loin, je veut te voir face a face. Je vais pas être méchant mais je veut comprendre pourquoi que tu as fait ce que tu as fait.

I live in Chiang Mai (north) for the last 10 years but please be careful. If you meet that piece of ****, let him know about me. And his ex-girlfriend. Most importantly, let me know!!!

All good! Tbh when it happened ( I was living in his house) was back in 2010 and he really made me afraid but now that I met other people and now good friends with connected people it's quite different.

Still the guy is very dangerous.

i never heard of any Pierre. And I'm not very connected to the poker world here tbh. i hope he didn't get scammed by garbage human being like Cedric though

Unfortunately, I don't.

My last contact with him was back in 2013. But I'm pretty sure if you ask poker players in Phuket that were here between 2013-2016, they can help you with that since he frauded and raided many poker houses back then.

He was hiring Thai people to wear fake food delivery jackets (E.g. KFC - McDonald's) to go inside poker players' houses.

I honestly regret not talking about him before (I saw a few people mentioning him here back in 2016 I think) but even the people that were mentioning him (at least the 2 that I saw) never really had no interaction with him and what they were saying wasn't really factual.

There was a phase where I was actually afraid of him. I've considered that guy a friend for like 4-5 years and then when I came here he was literally asking me to rob a bank... i couldn't believe it (he obviously threaten me that if I spoke about it to anyone at that time that something bad would happen)

I really lived with that guy and he's really on another level when it come to being a POS. He made a poker house back in 2010 in Bangkok in Lat Phrao and invited 3 guys. He taught them how to play poker and after a year when most of them were winning (obv he wasn't allowing people to play on their own account -- all accounts were under his name), he just ran away with all the money without a sign.

He stole over $80,000 (euro) my understanding at that time (2010).

I don't want to hijack this thread or anything. Thailand is wonderful and there are a bunch of amazing people here but unfortunately, you have a real piece of **** like the son of Renée-Claude Brazeau (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4A_KK27kXM)

I'm not gonna comment anymore because as I said I don't want to hijack this thread and make it seem as if Thailand was all bad because it's absolutely not but please be on the look-out.

Yeppers, you read/hear so many people even long term Thai vets speak of the strictness of Immigration and bad situations, not sure if chineese whispers gone wild or most have no clue how to function in this world, I left recently on an 89 day overstay so I think my intentions were extremely obvious, had a lot of information prepared and was not going to be surprised if I spent my time waiting in detention, which could be a few days if I get unlucky according to.,....everyone.

Overstay noticed, brought to that area, give her my passport, has a quick look, lets out a tiny gasp and asks me to sit down while she counts, does it confirms with me its 88 days overstay and the fee, I pay it and am asked to sit down again 20 minutes later I get on my flight.

Literally was not even asked why I overstayed, I do think knowing a modicum of thai and showing respect (In this case, looking like a dog caught in the wrong) goes so far, in the West to for the latter, obviously got a stamp for it, but not the one that matters.

We have the in-built aircon as opposed to wall-mounted. Is this just super inefficient? We also have a water boiler which is rare. The water is scalding if you turn the tap too far hot - could this be at a super high setting or something?

You're probably aware after so many years but you never know. You're aware of just how dramatic orientation of the building itself, your floor number and airflow, both in your apartment but also the building itself can have on the factors you mention. I've gone from 2k a month small 1br near 24/7 27c to near zero in the same building just based on orientation and floor.

Cost per unit went up recently I'm pretty sure. I was normally between 3-4k per month running 2 ACs for most part. Last 2 months over 7K.
