I mean it's costly, but still worth it for many people. I will be happy not to have to deal with tourist visas and paperwork and the uncertainty of whether or not my wife and I will be able to go to/stay in certain countries.

Also, we've been nomading for quite a long time and do a lot of 1-3 month stays and probably pay about 50% extra booking AirBNBs all the time. I figure I'll make back the 23k USD for the visa just being able to book locally for 1 year at a time in Bangkok.

You should send them a message to clarify about the extention, they don't advertise much for it.
Nobody cares what visa you have when you rent a place in Thailand, they just want the 1 or 2 month deposit and the first rent. The only perks of the visa is that you'll have no problem opening a bank accounk.
(And the limousine service, in Phuket it adds up quite fast)

There's just that niggling feeling in the back of my head that it's not necessary - my friend has been coming in and out on tourist visas every 6 weeks(works in the ME on rotation) for years without too much hassle and it's tempting to take weekend trips every 60 days to surrounding SE Asian countries but i'm all for a hassle free life so this does just make sense. But yeah the $17.5k is going to sting a bit!

I did a lot of reading also and it definitely seems like a good product, but I don't know anyone personally who has one. Anyways, application is in now so I guess no turning back!
I almost did 10 years between ED visa and tourist visas. Got asked once if I can speak thai at immigration, I answered : 'Phom chuu Zarshka' and the officer was super happy. If you do it smart and change your passport every 2/3 years, it's possible to abuse the system for quite long time.

there were times in china where i had to leave the country every 30 days

it was pretty awesome being forced to spend a weekend in tokyo, seoul, mongolia, kathmandu, bangkok, etc

yes, it was a hassle at times but I got to see a lot more of various places I probably may not have gotten around to visiting otherwise

I'm almost 40, so if I could somehow just get a 5 year extension, then I'd be able to do retirement after. We'll see. We might not even want to stick around in Bangkok by then. Could always go back to Mexico, somewhere else in Latin America, Istanbul (if Turkey ever goes back to super easy residency) or even see what the digital nomad visa options are by then.

What I meant about rent prices is that if I didn't do Thai Elite, then my other option would be nomading around the Euro zone and maybe Latin America and using AirBNB a lot and paying several hundred extra per month in rent. If I get Thai Elite, then I'll just rent in BKK on 1-year contracts.

I can't really visa jump b/c my wife's passport is Mexican, plus we have a dog with us (Chihuahua) and Asia is really strict with pet entry/exit compared to other places.

So from that perspective, Thai Elite will probably save me a bit of money compared to all those extra expenses with my Plan B.

Malaysia is super easy these days to get a digital nomad visa... only costs around 8,000THB also. I thought of going there at one point but I have more friends and family here so it just makes a lot more sense.

But then you have to live in Malaysia

I actually looked into it and joined the Malaysia Digital Nomad group on Facebook, but I don't think it's that easy for poker players. I forgot now what the exact requirements were, but you were needing to show either contracts and/or work with a company, which knocks out pure freelancers like poker players. Thailand's DN visa is the same. Even if you can show you've made more the minimum monthly financial requirements over the past 12 months, they add other annoying stipulations.

ahhh, yeah you have to have a limited company and indeed, be able to prove contracts of employment.

have you guys looked into doing grad school to get a student visa, like getting an executive mba where you only have a few hours of course load each week

you get the visa and also get a graduate degree that could assist in a transition away from poker in the future if you ever want to keep your options open

I already did the study thing for a visa for a year and a half in France a little while ago. It was ok, but I much prefer just being free to play poker and not having to give up time for school, even if it is a small time investment.

How people are moving money off sites in baht? I used to use skrill and revolut but skrill is horrible the last 3years and it seems revolut is quickly following their steps. I have thai bank account but i would prefer an alternative with reasonable fees like revolut or something with crypto which doesnt ask every year more verification documents about income, tin, country of residence

Neteller & MuchBetter, both easy but high fees.

E-wallets are **** and hopefully soon obsolete, I'd try to use some skype tradinc site or even this thread to swap balance in X site for crypto and exchange it on Satang or Bitkub for THB.

You mean foreigners cannot open new accounts? because I use Satang every week pretty much. Had the account there for a few years though.

I also remember there was coins.co.th but fees were insane, stil better than any e-wallet probably.

Finally I'm pretty sure there's a way to do Binance -> thai bank but have never tried, has anyone done it succesfully?

I have no problem using satang. I re-opened my account a few months ago, they asked some questions (don't say you are working otherwise you have to provide a work permit, just tell them you are currently unemployed) and also some documents (lease/visa) but nothing crazy.

On Binance you can use the p2p but the fees are quite high.

Just tried, foreigners are "temporally not allowed to open accounts".

Yes, That is what I meant. They let you waste 30 mins of your time creating an account before they let you know though.

Is this different than them holding your BTC for collateral against a loan to your Thai bank in baht?

In the past NEXO only offered loans against your BTC in baht to your bank.

Not too sure about all that .

I just exchange BTC to GBP in the Nexo client (USD takes longer to transfer) and then withdraw it to my Thai bank. Takes a couple business days.

Can any of you wonderful guys tell me how to play online for real money whilst I sit here in Bangkok?

I just tried to sign up at GGpoker but the first step is to select (from a pull-down menu) the country that you're in, and their long list does not include Thailand (nor the U.S.A. for that matter).
  • I have a VPN.
  • I would not touch crypto-currency with a ten-foot pole.
  • I have PayPal, Visa, and bank accounts here and in the U.S.A.

How to get this going?

A lot of GG accounts (including mine) were migrated to Natural8 yesterday, which seems is the only GG skin available for players in Thailand from now on I guess.
This is what my cashier looks like:

Strangely they list some Thai banks within the 2nd option "online payment". Would have thought that Thai bank accounts/credit cards would be restricted for online gambling?? Nat8 live chat will also give you the Line contact of their Thai Agent which presumably can help Thai customers with funding. Don't know about the fees as I used Neteller before which is unfortunately not available at Natural8 :/

Can I play Party Poker in Thailand?
I am British and a Naturalized Thai citizen.
They have been hassling me now, in the UK, saying my phone is saying Thailand.
