At this point my plan is to test out the connection in my hotel http://holidayparksamui.com/, and if that is no good I will attempt to buy a monthly membership to one of the reliable cafes (eg offer them 1500 baht or so for allowing me unlimited usage of their connection.

An unreliable connection isn't great for cash games either, as it can result in the client not posting your blinds in time. But you are right in that a loss of connection during a multitabling sitngo session can be disastrous.

I would forget about Koh Pan Gan, the infrastructure there isn't nearly as good as Samui.

PM me for my email address, I'd be happy to share any info or experiences.
Hey thx for the reply,

wow 5 times, u must hate the place..lol
that hotel seem pretty nice, and good price too..
u get any discount for staying a month?
i was thinking bout renting a place with a buddy, and get the best connection available, plus some kind of back up connection.. would this be a good option? are there any good providers.
huge diffrence between sng and cash imo
dont think im gonna enjoy the grind in a internetcafe..
staying in a hotel with good internet, for a decent price would be the nuts.
might look around for something like that.
u got msn or something??, would be nice to get some inside info from experienced koh samoi traveller..

This. Though I'm not seeing how there could be a "bad" time of year. Also, Malkas, how serious are you about going?

Don't visit Thailand from June to Oct unless you don't care about rain.

comparing to for example finnish weather thailand's weather beats it 24/7

if you go to slim at RCA, come early (10:30ish) if you want to get a table+bottle on a saturday night. i'd recommend it if you're with a few people. getting a bottle works out cheaper than buying individual drinks and having your own table is pretty much essential. you'll see what i mean when you're there.
Thanks m8, me and my friend went to RCA around 11pm, route66 and slim were packed, we had a few drinks there and end up again on Soi Cowboy .

We want to see Phuket as well to compare it to Bangkok so we can decide where to stay longer.

Any advice for a hotel with a beach front or close to the beach and good wireless internet? Is Patong Beach the place to go? Thanks!

patong beach is pretty horrible in every aspect it can be

well there is jungceylon(shopping centre), probably the only thing i like in the whole place.

if you want to be near a nice beach goto karon or kata and take trips to other beaches/places. i would goto kata if it were my first trip here now. you can rent motorbikes easy to be able to move around and in the evenings if you want to go out just get a tuktuk and it is like 15mins to patong if you want to go find some ladies. there are plenty of bars in kata and karon too but no discos and more ladies in patong.

i guess you could compare patong/bangla to sukhumvit/cowboy or silom/patpong (without the beach obviously)

Cheers m8, we will book something in kata.

Just be advised that if you stay in Kata but want the Patong nightlife its going to cost you 1000-1500 baht a night in taxi fares. The taxi mafia in Phuket are pretty ridiculous.

If you plan on going out clubbing often you are better off staying in Patong. It still has a fairly nice beach, its a bit more busy though.

ydraw is correct. the tuktuk prices here are pretty ridicilous. i think it costs 400-500 from kata to patong one way and like i said it only takes like 15-20mins. if you have a group of 4 or something it is not that bad though.

if you only care about going out then stay in patong. if you want something nicer and relax a bit and go out just a couple of nights a week or something i wouldnt stay in patong

but up to uuuuuuuuuuu

lol, there's a monthly charge. The billing department just likes to stay one month behind. My bill for January came last month and for the service that ended Jan 30th I had to make payment before April 17th. The bill will go to the address he signed up with so if he moved you'll want to take your card/box into the office and get that changed.

I'm arriving in Phuket in a few days, hoping to find quickly a place to rent. What's the best plan, checking the internet sites like http://www.houseinphuket.com/houses/LTR/ , asking people in bars and shops of the targeted areas, driving aroud hoping to find houses with a rent sign, all of the above?

I'm looking for a place with one or two bedrooms, swimming pool, condo ok if really nice, for 30K or even 40K, looks doable? Don't know exactly where to go yet but Rawai seems the place for me.
Thx for the input!

driving around is the best plan. 30-40k for the house you described is doable especially if you are renting long term.

i am living in rawai in a secure complex, 2br house but there is only a shared pool and gym. well taken care of though, paying 25k/month with 6-month contract.

shoot me a pm if you want to know more

dear WillyT,

maybe you are unlucky or something but there are loads of people in thaivisa that never get any bills. i am not sure how long danny had the card but i am pretty sure it was well over 1 month and we have had it for atleast 1.5months already and he hasnt mentioned any bills

I can, in no way, verify that your account will be closed down if you do not pay. There was date listed on my bill after which if I hadn't paid my account would be closed but I didn't test it.

You didn't get a bill because it would have been mailed to Danny's address approximately 3 months after he started the service.

I actually stopped in at their office at Central Festival a couple of months after I got my card to ask when I would get the bill and the lady behind the desk just laughed and said that the billing department is always 3 months behind.

there is a shared wireless here for 850 a month. i am the only house here with my own line atm since there are not enough phone number in rawai. they ordered 5 additional numbers but i dont know how long it would take if you needed one right now. it took a little less than a month to get mine. i used the shared wireless and cdma before that

paying 1090 a month for 2/1M now

it is TT&T though so it is stable and downloads 200kb/s 24/7 if needed. no problems yet
