Hi everyone, i have few questions:

1) I'm planning to come to Chiang Mai from september to december, is it still doable or with covid cases increase it's not suggested/permitted anymore?

2) I know lots of people are/were there grinding on .com sites.
I play on .it, so local ones. Since there aren't thai poker sites i assume you can use pokerstars.it etc, but can someone confirm this assumption? is anyone there grinding on national clients?

3) If i go to Chiang Mai with no Hotel/room booked, can i still look for something when i'm there in order to save money or with covid it would be better to book something from there to avoid problems?

Thanks to everyone!

Chiang Mai is doing fine so far in this third covid wave and pretty much everything is open but bars.

Best thing to do is book a hotel/airbnb for 3-4 days and find a condo for the length of your stay once here. With covid making international travel hard theres plenty of availability and you can probably get good deals just walking into condo buildings and asking at reception.

Not entirely sure if .it works here but I know .es does. You can always email stars support and ask. If not every other .com sites besides partypoker let you play from here so you could potentially play on those the time you're here.

Death in paradise: first the virus, now a murder casts pall over Phuket

At the police station where he is being held in Phuket, Teerawat Thothip was handed a phone to begin a national address like few others.

The 27-year-old local man was patched into a press conference to confess to the murder of 57-year-old Swiss woman Nicole Sauvain-Weisskopf near a waterfall on the south of the island last Thursday.

“I would like to apologise to the tourist’s family and beg all Thais to excuse me,” he said. “I did not mean to kill her.”

Charged with murder and robbery after being identified with CCTV footage, Teerawat explained he had been left unemployed by the pandemic and was trying to steal Sauvain-Weisskopf’s backpack, which had 300 baht ($A12) inside it, when he saw her wading in the water on her own. She died in a struggle after he placed her in a headlock, he said.

Unless you're scared of covid I see no reason to come to Thailand. There has to be countries out there that are fully open and comparable living expenses.

I'd say let the dust settle from the current wave and reaccess

This troll is happy to learn the death of a person, as it makes an exemple for the racist arguments he was spitting all over the thread. And winning an argument on some random Internet forum is the best thing that could happen in his miserable life. Yes, asians are horrible cold-blooded killers dude, you win!

traveling is the opposite of what people who are scared of covid ought to do. going to a largely unvaccinated country is even worse. i do not get your point.

Well they take it more serious here than Florida or Mexico.
There are going to be bar closures, curfews, possible quarantines for domestic travel, etc...
So if you're worried about Covid it's not a bad place to be as there are some attempts to slow the spread.
If you want to travel and have a good time and really dgaf about Covid then Thailand seems like a terrible place to go to.
It's boring af out here atm.

If you have an Euro passport, Eastern Europe is pretty good rn. No need to visa run, cost of living close to SEA, Eastern Euro sloots are hot too. Stayed close to 1 year in Romania and made new local friends (straight dudes) super easy without speaking Romanian. Also, had great experiences here with the local police when hanging out with some super sketchy local brahs. In my 10 years experiences living abroad, Romania is the most genuinely welcoming country I have ever been, even if you look like a complete foreigner like myself (light hair and poverty blue eyes) and barely speak Romanian.

Hey guys
I am planning to set up a poker house in Chiang Mai since I cannot find any here.
Plan is to get a 3-bedroom house and install a good Internet.
Let me know if anyone is interested.

Would be nice if they could get everyone vaxxed that wants to but going to be hard for Thailand to hold on.
Also seems like Thailand doesn't have even Mississippi like hospital capacity.

Would be good to get the old people vaxxed. Friend just lost both her parent in laws in Myanmar a couple of days ago.

Lets see how many people will think it's a great idea to go to a delta COVID hotspot filling out thousands of forms in order to be treated like a child molester with a tracking bracelet in a 3rd world country while gambling with catching delta in a place with dubious hygiene practices.

Better to go to Singapore at this point if you don't mind a 21 day layover in Brunei or Germany: https://www.cnbc.com/2021/08/19/sing...-visitors.html

Contrary to Thailand everybody is using the contact tracing app and there is no dedicated farang monitoring task force and hotel prices are on par with Thailand pre pandemic. AirBnBs are a bit more expensive but it's a 1st world country.

Thai PM tells Phuket people to “stop ripping off tourists”

Everyone is having their say about a van charging two Australian tourists 3,000 baht for a trip from the Phuket International Airport to Kata, even the Thai PM.

The PM took time out today to issue a warning to “Phuket people” that its reputation as a tourist destination will suffer if local people keep ripping-off tourists.

A spokesperson says the Thai prime minister was made aware of a formal police complaint filed by two Australian tourists that a passenger van driver charged them 3,000 baht (1,500 baht each) for the 47 kilometre ride to their hotel in Kata.

The spokesperson said… “if people persisted in taking unfair advantage of foreign visitors it would have a negative impact on the Thai people and Phuket.”

Video of alleged police killing during extortion attempt shared on social media

A video of the alleged police killing during an extortion attempt was shared on social media today by a well-known Thai lawyer. The footage shows officers putting a plastic bag over a man’s head and beating him. Reports say the man died from suffocation, but the district chief allegedly ordered his subordinates to write the death off as drug overdose.

The police chief in Nakhon Sawan, Pol Col Thitisant Utthanaphon, is being transferred following allegations raised this week claiming that he accidentally killed a drug suspect while demanding a 2 million baht bribe. The claims are now being investigated and 10 other officers are being questioned.

Oh my god. Some tourists were charged more than a fair rate for a taxi ride? I'm glad you brought this to our attention. I'm NEVER visiting Thailand now. [/SARCASM]

Before a big part of me used to think that ILIA was an advanced troll that was creating this persona of a thai-hater lunatic just to annoy people ITT. Now that someone said that they know him IRL my feelings towards him changed from anger for his repeated spamming of his anti-thai agenda to extreme pity knowing that a person so troubled and and full of hate actually exists IRL. Virtual hug to you, ILIA.

US man found innocent after 13 months in Klong Prem prison held by immigration at airport

It is expected that US man Derrick Keller will be deported and fly home to the US on Monday following his 13 month ordeal in a Thai maximum security prison since his arrest in August when he arrived with his family as a tourist and found himself facing serious fraud charges linked to a Ponzi scheme in which he featured as an actor in a corporate video.

44-year-old US man and former servicemen Derrick Keller found himself back in detention over the weekend after being released from Klong Prem prison in Bangkok on Monday and spending his first night in a real bed. He was detained by immigration police as he attempted to fly out of the country for overstaying his visa.
