Admin post from one of the issan farang groups that i am in. Admin runs a law firm in issan.

"In the next month, the economy will be difficult.

Today for the second time in 14 years, I saw a fake chanotte. It is attached, done on same kind of paper and made with a color photocopier. Client lost 1.2 million. 12 years together. I’ve seen many chanotte and this was a good copy. I was right to double check the land department.

Another client lost 5 million baht with his company because it was not properly formed and his wife was director and could access bank account. We are just Wednesday.

This is after another TWO different clients told me he was beaten by the in-law family and wish to divorce. In about 1 week.

I must keep confidentiality. We have clients everywhere and I deleted info on chanotte. My point is I believe violence, theft and crime will raise with the economic crisis. Protect yourself, cameras, dog, contracts, etc. If you watch the news, it seems also having more suicide. And this is just starting to what I think...."

Think its said that in US an unemployment rate of 33% would create a hostile, apocalyptic type environment, worth noting US has risen from ~5% to 'as high as 20%' so far during this. That all may be outdated given the lengths the US govt has gone to keep the economy alive(certainly more than I thought anyone could have ever expected), but apply those sorta numbers to Thailand, with a govt who have largely chose to do nothing but give out restriction orders. And aftermath should understandably be much worse.

I agree things are going to get ugly here. I'm actually surprised it's as stable as it is right now. There are huge segments of the population with no income coming in and next to nothing in savings. Unlike the US, many people here literally don't have money to buy food. Prayut and his cronies have done nothing to help.

The private businesses have saved the govt from hell imo, by these food handouts, as you mentioned it’s not like those who are queueing had much to begin with, so getting a meal everyday keeps violence at bay. I seen a foreign radio station who had said they wer going to have to stop their handouts soon, as they were relying on donations, but Thai media refused to cover any foreign organised charity, so it was tough to get their word out, and thus running out of money. I wonder what % of these businesses/charities would have to stop before we seen riots.

Ofc when this is all said and done it will be the swift and effective action of the govt that gets praised, when really they have ran like god.

Any recommendations for good place (good value) to stay in Patong for 1-2 months? Nothing fancy but don't has to be the lowest tier either.

Thanks <3

When you arrive? worth noting airport still closed here to July 1st, believe they open the gate as of tomorrow.

Airbnb lowballing probably your best bet right now, here is the place I stay, room same layout, and they are doing a half price deal(dates entered 1st july-1st August).

https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/4183059...2F72K&guests=1

I pay 25k/month(£630) and this is advertised for £401 before airbnb fees, so was pretty tilting to see that haha, but this was the first place that came up, and I imagine there is tons of places doing similar.

Lots of half decent places around town if all youre looking for is clean bed and wifi, they usually go for 6-10k/month but lord knows what youll pick up some of them at now.

Being seen as benevolent to the little man without coming across like you have a lot and are trying to compete with higher class locals and being under the protection of one or two upper class people whose character / reputation you have carefully studied (there are both purely predatory and benevolent upper class people) that benefit from you is the only way to survive long term in any SEA country unless you hide away in your condo, look like you barely make ends meet and are barely visible publicly with no local social connections.

Given the jealous, vengeful and predatory nature of most locals combined with a racial inferiority complex in SEA it's still a dangerous game to play and few westerners living long in SEA.

The Hungry Syrian wanderer is doing exactly that in the Philippines:

The upper class will eat anyone with higher ambitions alive unless you function as a face giving fixer that hooks the upper class up with access to fashion shows in Paris, high level jobs in foreign owned hotels etc.

Bangkok will probably turn into a hell like Manila and the new king will probably never return with the military government staying in place forever.

Do you RLY want to stay there for a month or two?

I suggest locating somewhere nicer. Even in case you're attracted to the sleaze, you can still stay somewhere else and go there on occasion. I mean, I'm a degen but even if I was a degen and between 18-21, I still couldn't stand Patong for more than a week.

True that. Furthermore, staying in Thailand just increases the risk of being stabbed in a coffee shop by the local hi-so mafia kingpin....
