In the early 2000s before smartphone all of asia was a whole other world. It was difficult to navigate and you had to actually talk to people in person and seek out places. Nowadays it's smartphone empowered global mass tourism everywhere. Totally different ballgame.

Even Japan, which I found extremely hard to navigate in the early 2000s as a hiragana / katagana illiterate is now pretty accessible to foreigners and Tokyo is flooded with tourists.

Would I be able to fly to Laos, pay fine at Chiang Mai or BKK airport and then fly back into CM in a week or so and get a VOA?

This would be the most convenient solution for me. I'd like to avoid returning via BK tbh as I've read of people being denied entry recently.

If you’re Gona fly to Laos, my aswell stay and get a tourist visa. Although people go on about it a lot, getting rejected at immigration is rare, but arriving looking for a VOA with a fresh 30 day overstay on your passport, is one case I’d say it’s pretty likely.

I wouldnt fly in at all. Go to laos and use the border to come over.

Yeah if I do go to Laos I will wait for an appointment I think. I'm also reading that paying the fine via a land crossing is no problem, so no need to bail via airport. I can just cross over at NK and pay the fine. It was at this border that they incorrectly stamped so may be easier to sort out there.

Then wait for appointment, get another TV and cross back overland. Might be my best option as long as I don't get fkd at land border, but I don't see there being any issues exiting in comparison to entering.

For sure just go to Udon airport and fly wherever you want to go doesnt take that long. The safe land borders are always a better option then the airports if you've got a spotty history. Make sure to make an appointment for your visa.

I was planning to fly to Udon, cross at NK border overland and pay fine. Stay in Laos whilst waiting for an appointment, and once get a TV then re enter overland again. Perhaps it is better to fly out though, but I don't see why there would be an issue going via a land border.

Crossing both ways by land should be fine and will save u some money. Nok air has a fly and ride service actually for that trip.

Lately vientiane has started rejecting more people with a long history of staying in thailand, so I'd get an appointment in advance then if rejected try for visa exempt entry at NK. Avoid airports until you've maxed out your 2 allowed visa exempt land border entries per year. And I'd overstay to 89 days to get max value

Ok Ty. I have maxed out my 2x exempts fwiw. Will book appointment, afaik only way to apply for TV is to book few weeks in advance currently.

In your opinion, crossing Thai to Laos overland at NK with 89 days should be no problem?

Also, what are the chances they do actually visit my house in the next month or so?

I'm keen to just rinse the value tho tbh, paying 20k for it so fkit. But ofc don't want be arrested n ****.

I'd have thought like <1% chance they turn up at your place within the next couple months. some people overstayed for a decade

Yeah you can pay at land borders

I'd only be worried about getting back in, so that's why I'd make the most of it now and overstay the whole 89 days. Even without overstay people are getting denied a lot lately if they're anywhere near 6 months/year on tourist visas or exempts, so I'd be prepared to go to the philippines for a while if needed

At least if you leave now you can try to explain the mix up when your overstay comes up getting a visa / crossing a border. That's not gonna happen if you'll max out the 89 days. + the 5yr ban if busted. I've also overstayed 9ish months just before the bans and I'd leave now in your position

fwiw i live rural. immi have visited my house before, but this was sometime ago now, and while i was on a different visa. i'm not at risk of being stopped or checked really, only issue is if immigration do want to check whether i've left or not, and decide to come around. this is my main concern.
i like to live my life on the edge but the fact they have been to your house before and they probably dont have **** going on seems super risky to me. after my overstay i spent 6+months in saigon. first the thai embassy was screwing with me to give me a tourist visa kept telling me to 'come back later' . they give me my tv then on arrival bkk airport the guy flips my pssport to the overstay and shakes his head and send me to the higher up. i pleaded innocence about thai laws my first time around promised not to do it again and he let me in. my last run i just flew out of pattaya airport to kl, stayed 1 night and returned. they werent stopping or checking anybody at pattaya airport so got in smoothly. but i do think i ned a new passport, having the overstay in there just causes too much problems

My roommate just got rejected at Laos applying for ed visa after he'd only been here 6 months on tourist visa. I did the exact same thing as him 6 months ago with no issues.

alright thanks. yeah im really undecided about what to do tbh. this has changed my plans entirely. thinking just flying to cambo is the call. so just to clarify, if i fly CM to BK, pay the fine then im okay to leave to a neighboring SEA country? boarding internal flights they only check your ID obv, not visa? ive flown internally a lot and never noticed them do this.

i think Laos is a skip as ive also heard of loads of people being rejected, also paying the fine at a land crossing does seem to be a bit more risky.

too stressed to stay in Thai though tbh, gtfo in next few days i reckon.

do you guys think this would be a viable option; fly CM to Udon, cross at NK overland and pay fine, spend a few weeks in Laos then fly back into CM direct from Luang Prabang and hope for a VOA?

what happens if they deny a VOA, would I be deported or would I be able to then fly to a neighboring SEA country?

that is if TV is denied^

are there any good live games going on there?

Not knowing anyone there, if I decided to spend a month or two living in SEA and playing poker both online and live, where are the games and what kind of bankroll + life roll would be necessary.

Speaking from perspective of someone who has grinded for a living but some time ago so results possibly not going to be so great. More a lengthy poker vacation than anything else but with obvious goal of being +EV.

spent some time in phuket before and wasn't a fan but really enjoyed koh lanta, would probably hate living in pattaya

also spent a bunch of time in sihankouville but never found any poker there despite all the ads for it - maybe it was off season?

With Laos being so gay about visas lately you may be better off hitting up Vietnam for a few weeks instead. I got one in Hanoi not long ago no question asked. My first one from Sav a few months ago they gave me a blue stamp that said "this person travels to Thailand often on TVs" or something like that. Sounds like Veintenne is lame now too. Depending on how worried you're about immigration you could even fly to Laos and go over the border with your new TV.

Pretty sure they would just send u back to the country you came from since your ticket doesnt orginate in your home country.

Speaking of visa **** my last TV I didnt even notice the blue stamp that Sav hit me with. They didnt say a word about it. I always thought the stamps were red. First visa there but my passport is full of TV's from a bunch of diff countries. So dont go there for a TV.

When i went to immigration to do a extension they looked at the stamp and were super gay and made me go to the TM30 line. Ended up being an all day affair.

Good TV spots are running low. HK isnt good anymore which used to be a great consulate. Seoul used to be a great place to go but they wont give u one if you're coming from Thailand anymore either. Its like Veitnam or Malaysia until those places change rules.

There aren't casinos like manila, phnom penh and macau, since it's illegal in thailand. Those cities would be better for regular games. The bkk underground games didn't run that often and especially lately with tighter visas and bad exchange rate making many expats leave
