I actually just left Phuket two weeks ago for Hua Hin

I did enjoy my time there however, especially after we started renting a car (the whole bike thing still isn't my thing). The reason I decided to give Hua Hin a try was mostly that a lot of things in Phuket are ridiculously overpriced for Thai standards (f.e. 1200baht for a round of golf/a crappy waterpark, 400bht for a 10-min taxi drive & ofcourse all the golfcourses are much more expensive than elsewhere in Thailand).

Some pro's and cons:

Pro's:
- Nice beaches
- Has all the conveniences of a city
- Many nice places to visit/things to do

Cons:
- Comparatively expensive for Thailand
- Very busy/touristy
- I found the locals to be significantly less friendly than elsewhere in Thailand

In the end tho I still enjoyed the place & I could've easily seen myself living there for many more years.

Cool, pretty much what I figured about Phuket.
1,200 doesn't seem terrible for golf, Thailand is not the deal it used to be but Hua Hin will have plenty more weekday specials I'm sure and get more for your money in rentals.
Enjoy!

Followup:

Flew into CNX Thursday morning. I figured I would probably be let in, but expected questioning and/or warning first - I was nervous. In the main immigration line, I could see ~10 lines ahead of me, each with its own immigration officer. I started psychologically profiling and decided to join the line that led to a softer looking male officer about my age who wore glasses. More importantly, I noted the officers I didn't want to meet: two females and a couple stern looking older guys.

There were a few people in front of me in the main queue when I noticed some commotion in one of the individual lines. A 25ish year old western woman was taken out of line and led to a different part of the room. She was clearly distressed. ****!!! Of course, I had no real idea what was going on, but this event seemed to indicate that the officers might not be lenient.

Then it was my turn to pick an individual line. I started heading towards the guy I chose when another officer stopped me and steered me into a line - with a female officer at the end of it. ****!!!

I waited for the three people ahead of me to go through and then it was my turn. I walked up and said, "Sawatdee krap," as I handed over my passport, but the lady didn't even look at me. She turned through the pages, did the heavy stamping, and put my passport back on the desk for me to take. I was on my way.

TL;DR: Got in, no problem. Phew!

Haha my bad I meant to write a round of minigolf. A round of regular golf will run you 3-4k + Caddy fee & tip.

Do you really not realize that online work is exploding in popularity and viability? More people than ever can live abroad now and the number of people doing so will only continue to rise.

the only problem with online work is that anyone in the world can do it. why not just get a filipino to do your job?

You couldn't even learn how to build a simple blog.

There are millions of third world uneducated people, struggling to live in poverty that are more competent than you.

**** me, how many levels does your life suck on?

Right, levels of skill and quality don't exist. Everyone that employs people online right now and pays good money is just stupid. They'll soon realize their foolishness and hire exclusively Filipinos.

Technically there is no import duty on computer hardware, etc... So "technically" there should be no problem

I did it once and put it in a big suitcase and wasn't checked. YMMV of course. Don't think the fee would have been enormous if checked.

I was reading about it and seems like its ok just take out the power source cause it might get checked for explosives.

It's quite a few years ago, so I'm not sure if I had the PSU in there or not. Might not be a terrible idea to put it in your hand luggage separately. You will have some explaining to do to the security but they should let it through when they are satisfied (I have taken different computer parts with scary wires sticking out as well).

Maintaining with top notch content is the rough part, but if you work hard you could be a high roller like all the Internet marketing kids here.

Yes. When I originally flew to SEA, I disassembled my desktop and carried the parts in my carry-on bag. After arrival I reassembled it with a new case. I have a mini-ITX build now, so I just carry it on directly. I've never been hassled about it.

Have one PC case in Thailand and one at home.
I always put my MB/RAM/CPU/SSD/GPU in hand luggage and PSU in checked-in luggage.
Sometimes they are confused while scanning my hand luggage and I tell them it's my PC parts.
Never had any problems tho.
