Really interesting thoughts on the 'having a gf point'. Makes sense they'd like it as you're supporting one of them.

I'm personally sick of the anxiety of 'will I be let back in' etc, so am pussying out and going elite. Any personal experiences good/bad with elite visa and with the company that offer it?

A close friend of mine has been on the 500k for five years visa, think he's been on it about 2-3 years, nothing but good things to say about the service so far.

It would only be better if it was cheaper for longer.

Takes 30 minutes, there's a desk to the right, past the immigration posts, they take you there, you pay them and they process your 1 year ban paperwork, give you copy and receipt for 20k baht and you head on to your flight.
Just get in line to exit through immigration and when you get to the post, tell them your overstay and need to pay fine.

I've had Elite for two years now and had only good experiences. Staff is top notch and it is well worth the money!

I am in need of major dental work, I am talking an extraction, a bridge, two implants and a few fillings on top of that.

I know I could find dental recommendations by doing a search, but I was wondering if any of you guys have had work of this magnitude done in Thailand - and even better if you had completely been knocked out by general anesthesia - and could give me a referral...

I would greatly appreciate any strong leads. I am in Indonesia now, but I am planning on traveling to Thailand or Cambodia to get my teeth done in about 3 weeks.

I've also been on it for ~2 years now, couldn't recommend it more. Yes it's pricey but no longer having to spend time on visa-related stuff, visa runs and having them help you out with anything is more than worth it for me.

As for the cheaper for longer, there's a 20-year option for 1 million baht which effectively cuts the yearly price in half.

Interesting, I never saw a 20-year for 1 million option before. Maybe it's new? It does say "extension membership" so I wonder if you need a 5-year first? I've still got three years left on my Elite but am seriously thinking of extending for 20 more years at this price. Then I just have to hope I live that long!

Is there literally any drawbacks to elite visa? Don't need to clock in at immigration every so often? Don't need to visit home country every so often? No additional fees/charges whatsoever?

A link to the most comprehensive guide/information would be appreciated

Thanks!

Thanks!
Afaik you still gotta go to immigration every 90 days. Not sure about fees.

No additional fees at all. Some perks past visa and line skipping/car to the airport but I never really take advantage of those. With any visa whether it's retirement, B visa, whatever you have to report every 90 days if you haven't left the country. Thai Elite will report for you but you need to get your passport to them and then pick it up from them again. Personally, I like to travel so I never stay more than 90 days in Thailand.

I have a daughter and other ties to Thailand and $15k isn't a lot to me. Elite is not for everyone, that's for sure. It's for people who make good money and want the convenience and VIP perks. From your posts I'm guessing you don't fly business class either but I can't imagine anything else. It's all relative.

Thanks for info.

I just done a cost comparison (METV v Elite), and calculated the extra cost of Elite over a 5 year period would be around £5k (212k baht). However, this does not factor:

1. Hassle reduction
2. Additional cost of flights home (2 or 3 during 5 year period)
3. Potential issues regarding having a ton of METV stamps (should I continue with METV)
4. The additional freedom to travel to nearby countries on dates that suit me - and more importantly without fear of immigration questioning me (assuming that's not a thing with Elite)
5. Potential changes in exchange rates due to the £ being so * currently

All in all, it seems a very close decision! Probably a couple other factors I've not considered - yet

Zero hassle with immigration with Elite. You also always have a Thai Elite escort with you to deal with it if a hassle did arise. They are waiting with a golf cart when you get off the plane to get you to the Elite immigration line as fast as possible. These days a lot of people with priority passes get in the Elite line and every time my escort has either taken me to the front of a line or through the airline pilot/flight attendant line so I didn't have to wait. I am not very patient so I appreciate that.

I think you can do the 90 days address report online, but ive never done it and got 0 consequences, they dont check that at airport, only place they care is at immigration office in bangkok, had to pay 2000 baht fine once

When factoring in all the time you lose on the cheaper options it really isn't even that much more expensive (if not cheaper depending on what your time is worth), plus it gives you a peace of mind.
Ofcourse it's not for everyone and it still is a lot of money, but it's peanuts compared to what I would have to pay in taxes if I were to live back in Europe.

Great responses concerning the Elite Visa, much appreciated! Steamraise9 I'm also feeling the effects of Brexit - what a bad time to want to buy something this expensive lol.

People keep posting things in chat groups about military police cracking down on foreigners. Emphasis seems to be for people overstaying, drugs, or working illegally etc, but I have these paranoid thoughts of 'is this one step away from them monitoring internet usage'. If so, grinders are pretty ****ed. I'd hate to buy elite only to end up in jail/deported!

Any grinders here worried about that unlikely but possible eventuality?

I do think about this every now and then (tho I don't play poker for a living anymore), but given how rare these occasions still are the odds of the police raiding my house are slim to none. It's possible that in the future some things change that would radically change the situation for foreigners here, but I guess anywhere you live there's a risk of things going south badly.

On top of that, I think that with an elite visa they're much more likely to leave you alone than when you're on the 10th consecutive tourist visa, but that could be wishful thinking.
