Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum, currently living in Australia and I'm planning to have a go on playing online poker full time.

Can someone give me some tips/advices about starting it in Thailand? I have spent in total over there about 2 months but just to travel and party

How hard is to get Thai bank account, and to setup my pokerstars account with thai address? How long does the process take?

Could be as quick as a few days, if you found a place right away, signed a lease contract and pokerstars accepted that as proof of address, usually they do, and they usually reply to the email and put the thai address on your acct within like 2-3 days. And bangkok bank lets foreigners open accounts, that's like 1 day, or bangkokhelper.com is a service to open a bank acct for you. So it's not hard if you do one of those.

If you took a while to find a place or stars asked for a utility bill, then it'd take until you got your first utility bill. E.g if you opened a truemove internet contract, that'd be proof of address once the first one gets sent to you. So at most, the time it takes you to find a place you like, plus a month to get first wifi bill.

Skrill now exchanges the EUR to THB before sending to thai bank and it does at a rate 5% or so lower than market rate.

Also not sure how anybody else hasn't seen this, there must be some other grinders around cashing out
Interested in alternative withdrawal options too.
Had new bank wire withdrawal menu in Skrill as well. But the worst part is my transfer got rejected by Thai bank (Bangkok bank) next day after attempted cashout. So it seems skrill has changed much more than just added XE commission.
Probably transfer is marked as gambling friendly transaction or maybe just using new protocol which is not yet adopted by Thai banks

I recommend getting a hotel for a few days and then beating feet basically going door to door at buildings asking for a place to rent. I stay in PhaDaet area. my studio apt is 3300B/mo. Seams like anything under 5000B/mo is not advertised but is definitely available. I know AssistThaiVisa will help you get a tm30 and create a bank account for like 700B.

3300 thb /month ? Sounds like a dump. You can get a condo with gym and pool for around 7000.

Haha No, its definitely not a dump. Just small. I live in a building by my gym that is full of mostly college students. I live in Chiang Mai as a Nak Muay. Like I tell the police and beggars... "Nak Muay, no money!"

Don't use skrill/neteller for gambling transactions if make a lot and also play some apps and get BTC etc. Also ****ing never ever deposit bigger amounts of BTC there. They have now strict laws and will suspend your account and require all sorts of documents to prove that you got it all in legimtate way. And if you are like me or most poker player it is not like you keep a reaosnable transactions ledger.

The best way to do it in Thailand is get acces to legitimate swap groups and do BTC->thb swaps, Pokerstars,888,Party funds->thb. Even if you pay 1-2% vig still a lot cheaper that skrill/neteller. Not to mention that with skrill/neteller you are at a huge risk that you will wake up one day with 10k stuck in your skrill/neteller account and they ask you to send them legitimate proof of your funds. GL with that.

Not sure how you pay 1-2% vig going poker site - skrill - BTC - THB, its gonna be much more i think.

I had a Skrill cashout last week to Bangkok Bank and all was ok except the ****ing 5% exchange fee.

Anyone tried ecoPayz? Looks like they have 1.5% exchange fee with gold level which seems reasonable.

Chiang Mai bro. Usually much cheaper then BKK.
this guy has a few listed that are around the price of mine. I have AC which is a plus. I live in a fairly normal part of town so that helps keep the price down. Utilities and internet have it around 3700B/mo

Almost anything listed is going to be a bit inflated. I highly recommend going door to door in neighborhoods you like and asking for a room. That is a big key to getting a good cheap place without paying things like agent fees and what not. I know of instances from a building near me that has charged website booking 9000B/mo and others as low as 6500B/mo

You missunderstood me . I don't touch a skrill/neteller anymore.
I exchange BTC I get for bank wire or cash at no vig (0.5% vig for cash).
And 1-2% vig for Pokersites transfers . So I do p2p and get thb in exchange. I don't play anymore on sites where I can't get BTC or I am able to do p2p that people are interested in taking (Pokerstars,888,Party basically)

Where on the island are you staying?

1. If you're gonna be getting around a lot and the budget allows it I definitely recommend renting a car (you can rent one for as little as 12k/m).
2. Check out the northern beaches (mai khao area) as they're very nice and usually deserted.
3. The market on sunday eve in Phuket Town is great.

Does anyone know some of the cool lesser known spots in BKK to take photos? I know it’s cliche but whatever. I am considering going to the “ghost tower” and checking it out...sounds a little dangerous/sketchy. I’d like some other options.

It can not be accessed anymore. Maybe the plane cemetery close to Bangkapi ?

Just got rejected at Poipet border, Had legitimate flight out for the following month, two tourist visa on passport and empty otherwise. No cash but shown 20mil bht in an account. Boss woman seemed on a real power trip, Before I got my Cambodian exit stamp I went to discuss if she would let me in(suggestion from Cambodian officer) She wasnt happy but told me to come back when I got the exit stamp, implying all would be ok. When I came back she questioned if I had a Thai girlfriend, and eventually started shaking with anger and said 'I give no visa to you'. Worth noting I had never bucked her. Apparently I was around the 10th to get cut that day.

Flew Siem Reap to DM the following day, no problems once I shown my onward flight.
