Is it safe to travel to Thailand alone? I have heard that there is a lot of pickpocket incident in Bangkok.

Never heard of one person being pickpocketed before.
Now if being gang raped by a pack of ladyboys down a dark alley isn't your cup of tea then you may want to rethink your trip.

Thailand is safer than many so called 'first world' countries, nothing to worry about over here.

Thailands safe. What i always wondered about is what is overall safer.

1.Taking a random moto bike taxi and riding with no helmet

2. Having sex no condom with a nana plaza gogo hooker

no long term future in those things really. you've got to think about your future.
Nice try Dad. No I'm not coming 'home' and getting a 'proper job'.

poker won't be viable for the next 40 years, so at some point you need to make the decision to go home and start over.
Online poker will be dead in the next 5 years (mid stakes+, then micro/small stakes probably in 10 years) because of the bots, unless the rooms create a new format. Feel good right? Now think about that: in the next 20 years most jobs will be replaced by machines and AI. So unless you are working/studying new technologies, you probably won't have a future in ~15-20 years. Unless you have enough money to be set for life, nobody has a future in 20 years.. Adapt or GG.

Micro/small will not last much longer than midstakes. Once bots are strong enough, the entire poker economy will collapse. Otherwise, you are correct.

SEA should see unemployment skyrocket in the same time frame: https://theaseanpost.com/article/wha...sean-workforce

I have a question to people who have played golf in SEA, is it easy to get started if never really played earlier except one time as kid and some minigolf later on..

Primarily I look to play in Thai (Chiang Mai) Can I just walk in rent stuff and the caddie ( and will he help me with everything or are these guys in generally clueless of the game and preferrable to take lessons upfront?)

Are most places open for people without the greencard or similar license or not? If not how hard is it to get one.

Ive been checking SEA golf sites but theres just ton of info about all inclusive golf vacations which are not my interest as not willing to rent hotels etc. So if someone who knows about golfing there could briefly give answears I would apprechiate it alot.

Chiang Mai is a great place to golf. Before I lived here I'd go to Chiang Mai every year for a 10 day golf trip.
The caddies are good for finding your balls, reading greens and eventually will figure out what distance you hit your clubs but they aren't going to give you any swing tips.
Definitely get lessons and buy a book. There are a million ways to swing a golf club but just pick one system and stick with that.
A great place for you to start is Gymkhana. A little 9 hole near the center of town and a cool historical place. After that your best bet will be lanna golf course, should be pretty cheap. Your main thing is to find an affordable driving range near your house to practice and find out when the courses have their "sports day" for good rates as it's not as cheap as it used to be.
Club rentals are no problem but you may have to pop for some shoes.
And use the cheapest balls you can, you're going to lose a lot of them.

i think a solid work history with a rounded set of skills gives me the best chance of fighting automation in the next 10-20 years.

sure, employment will be harder to find in 10 years time. it's going to be hard for all of us. the future is grim.

but it's going to be harder for many of you guys than me.

i've got a stable work history. many of you are effectively in the gig economy fighting to keep your heads above water.

don't tell a prospective employer you played poker. say that you had websites marketing sex tourism destinations.

just a heads up.

Interesting question; I think it comes down to what one dislikes / scares the most, potential death / physicall damage or potentially forever lasting life limiting sickness (HIV).

Ive been riding motorbikes without a helmet quite a lot without much mental struggle and what comes to number two it comes as very unattractive to me. Someone whose into hookers would probably see it bit differently.

I have heard they have cracked down on Thailand visa's unless you want to pay for the 20 year elite visa which basically lets you stay there indefinitely. If a US citizen wanted to retire there and not front a lot of money do you still have to exit the country every 30-60 days. Are you able to rent an apartment or condo on a yearly lease. If you sign a lease how do you know if it is valid. They could very easily trick you and say you didn't understand this clause because the entire lease is in the Thai language. Looking for legitimate answers not one's that say if you pay off this man or that man they will let you stay in the country or not break an apartment lease.

It got harder but it was really easy before, so it's still not that hard. Every 60 days if no prepaid visa sticker, just free stamp (30 days then pay $57 fee inside the country to extend to 60 days). Every 90 days if you prepay ($30) for visa (60 days initial then pay $57 fee to extend 30 more, total 90 days). Every 6-12 months if you pay for an education visa (be a student of thai), $600-1300. Yes you can lease yearly. They translate a copy of the contract into English signed by both parties.

if you want to retire there, there's a specific retirement visa available. no idea about the money / age requirements though...

Yeah, age 50 or higher and it's really easy to stay indefinitely, $57 a year, to get retirement status you just need to show 800k baht (24k usd) in a savings account for at least 3 months prior to application. The old guys have their own little tricks, there are loan companies to send you the cash temporarily.
