Just got to Thailand from Hawaii. Here for 3 weeks but may get a tourist visa and stay for months. Looking for a poker player/s to live with. DM me if you have a room for rent or space I can rent. Or you know of someone I can contact that is living here that can help me find a place. Mahalo, Ben

Hey guys, was reading through this thread the past few days and saw a bunch of you mentioning how they have been living in Thailand for long times, even multiple years. What is the best way to go about that?

I am from a country that is allowed 30-day-stays without even a visa, so i assume thats a starting point. I would like to spend as much time as possible in Thailand (preferably 1year+), without leaving the country for more than like a 2-week-"vacation" to my home country.

What kind of Visa is the best, how to border-hop, etc.? A school visa is not doable in my situation, aswell as the $15k elite visa.

Would be awesome if someone could elaborate a bit on how they did/do it

Thanks a lot!

Could start with a multiple entry tourist visa, you apply for it at a thai consulate in your country, enter thailand, extend after 60 days to 90, border hop at 90 days, reenter and repeat for another, then border hop and reenter again just before the 180 day point, allowing you to do it a third time, in total almost 9 months stay. Like 8.5 months. Then if you use a visa agency that takes you to laos to get a single entry visa, like thaivisaservice.com, that's another 90 days, they have connections to get you through the border with no issue. In total then you hit 11.5 months, with 3 entries by airport and 1 by land.

that helps a lot already, thanks. more stupid question: what happens if i just stay? lets say after my initial 60 days i dont do any of that and just gamble and stay, lets say, a year? what happens when i try to leave then? what if somebody (how?) like police checks my ID etc

//edit: ok i found out about that. tbh that doesnr sound like too bad of a deal. how likely is it to get caught anyway lol

They used to not care and just let you pay the 20k baht fine and come back but now they changed the rules and will also ban you from the country for a year if you overstay up to a year. 3 years if more than a year. Little chance you ever get your passport checked by police but if so you'd be detained and released once you pay for a flight ticket, and escorted to the flight.

Good for him it prob helped him hit 97000 youtube subs. If you don't care about being banned for a year then go ahead, spend the next year in Vietnam, Philippines, etc.

Whatever you do , don't overstay unless you want to go to jail. After the junta took over immigration is very strict , only a few days over just pay the fine at the airport. Gamble with months or years of overstays and youre in big trouble.

As soon as you pay for a flight ticket you're out of detention, there's no jail sentence. If caught. If leaving at the airport there's no detention, just fine and ban.

since gambling is illegal, i would assume you dont file taxes on it. same goes for cocaine.
